That 38 year old put up ~25 more points than Stralman. We're building up Stralman way too much. With 13 points, Stralman is no more valuable than Mike Weaver. He is a solid defensively sound defenseman who can make a pass. He is replaceable. Hopefully Dan Boyle can help our powerplay, and while the contract is questionable, signing Stralman for $4.5 would have been stupid.

I don't give a a damn how many points he put up, with Marleau, Hertl, Thornton, Couture, Pavelski and the rest of the much better offensive players the Sharks have.

The Rangers don't nearly have the luxury or offense to sacrifice the speed or defense.

This is beyond stupid. This is an absolute ****ing disaster of a screw job Sather just made.

4.5 for a legitimate top four. Our #3 behind McDonagh and Girardi. Instead 4.5 on a ****ing 3rd pair at 5v5 38 year old damaged no legs defenseman.

Same cap hit, 11 YEAR DIFFERENCE in age.

Sather has nothing but dog ****, cigar smoke, and cobwebs between his earns.

I love how everyone glosses over the fact that Stralman asked for more than 4.5 from the Rangers. He probably asked for 4.75m-5m for 5-6 years. Assuming we accept that offer(Equal or more than what McDonagh is making), then you have Stralman, Klein, and Girardi locked up long term. Assuming Beukeboom isnt lying about McIlrath's readiness, then we might as well trade him since he and his 700k cap hit would no longer be welcome with this team.

Good deal, good D-man who can help with PP. Stralman had 1 good year while struggling the rest. MSL is older and i don't hear anyone complaining about him anymore after the playoffs.

The strength of the Rangers is now gone. Other than Kreider, Hagelin, McDonagh, St. Louis, the speed is now a non ****ing factor.

Insensed right now.

The Stralman love is pretty irrational. I've always loved him and he's been one of my favorites for a while, but some of you need to back away from the ledge

If Stralman pulls a Pouliot and gets grossly overpaid somewhere, this is a good signing.

Because Stralman signed for the same cap hit as Boyle, this is a horrid, horrid signing. It reminds me of Callahan's agent criticizing Sather for refusing to pay home grown players who have paid their dues as Rangers, yet throws boatloads of cash to mercenaries who have never done anything in a Ranger uniform. He was 100% right, and I'm embarrassed today

To those who think Stralman is easily replaceable; you're 100% wrong. He didn't have a lick of offense to his game but he was a top tier shut down defenseman that could move the puck up the ice, make the occasional huge hit and fit our system perfectly. Unless Boyle puts up 40 points OR is as equally capable at shutting down the opposition as Stralman, this is a terrible signing

Dude calm down. I'm going to save this pst for you for midway through the season so you can appreciate your overreaction! I know we have to try and ***** about a Sather signing every year, but these are not the droids you're looking for.
Boyle is far from a " damaged dog poop no legs dman" or whatever.
Stralman was Not coming back, I think that was pretty clear a while ago, and this signing did not prevent Stralman from coming back. He didn't want to play here. Bye! He's extremely replaceable , Klein is his friggin clone. We Need Pp QB. We need an offensive D. We got one of the best in the league , and by far the best available in FA, for a good price and not risky term.

You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. Stralman had three very good seasons for us. I'll take a 28 year old Stralman over a 38 year old Boyle any day.

St. Louis chipped in a few points, but he still scored nowhere near his usual numbers for us in the playoffs. He's 39 and I highly doubt he puts up 70+ points in a Rangers jersey next season.

Rangers going downhill with this move. Honestly think this past year was their only chance to win the cup and its looking more and more like that. Sorry to be a downer. Boyle wont do much of anything at the point on the PP. Not a fan. Wouldve signed Stralman for 5- 6 years given the choice.

Yeah dude, because Anton freakin Stralman was a blazing skater...
Have you ever actually watched DB play? He used to have Elite speed, but now is only a very good skater.

Dude pick a different team to route for..Your crying like a school girl..

Stralman wanted more $$$$$ from rangers, and I love the flexibility in capspace with short commitment. Also Klein can do what stralman can do and for less money.. Half of you on here LOVE points why hate now? Stralman was a SAFE player. Not worth the $$$$$, especially with young guys coming up the ranks

Exactly. Its funny not too long ago Stralman was considered a journey man defenseman but now after a couple decent years and 1 really strong year our fans are drooling over him like he is ryan mcdonagh or something

It's the opposite of irrational. Stralman love is based in cold hard stats. He's an amazing possession player who helped push us into elite territory. We're in for a massive drop off.

Stralman was very good for us, but how many shutdown D can we need? Our PP and lack of O from our Dmen was a big reason we didn't win the Cup. Staal, G , McD and Klein are all very good defenders, but who brings the O? McD is blossoming and Johhny Moore needs to put it together. I look at this similarly to MSL being able to mentor MZA. Boyle is a huge locker room guy and will help Moore and McD develop .

Speaking of Pouliot i dont know whther to laugh or feel bad for the Oilers. Pouliot had his best season BUT lets afce it he was far from spectacular. Wildly inconsistent and took so many dumb penalties. Also it helped that he played with Zucc and Brass.

i thing boyle will be better for us on the PP than Richards. Having a Righty and a Lefty at the points, and both being actual defenseman, should lead to more offensive chances and fewer chances against.

one would think.

Strålman had 13 points this year, 18 (career high) the previous two seasons. Boyle coming of a 36 point season, we need those points from someone on the blueline.

Boyle's legs are damaged? Perhaps he helps this team's offense. Perhaps he does help the PP. Perhaps the team doesn't sacrifice much in terms of defense. The guy did log 22/23 minute per game of ice time, so it wasn't like he was getting 15-16 minutes of ice time. I'm willing to see how this shakes out. The best defenseman is still on this team. That's Hank. He made them all good good defensively too often. Let's hope he continues and this team can get over some scoring humps while continuing to play an up-tempo game that thrives on transition and plays well in all zones.

Boyle becomes our second best skating D, only to McD.

Don't tell others what to do.

I've been a die hard fan of this team for over two decades. And its always the same ****.

38 year old Dan Boyle is going to save the power play?

Wade Redden is going to save the power play.

McCabe is going to save the power play.

Morris is going to save the power play.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...

How many times is Sather going to fall for the same trap. Sorry, i don't buy it. I don't buy that Dan Boyle is going to miraculously save the power play and propell the team over the edge.

Didn't want to pay Stralman, that's fine, get more creative.

Typical lazy Sather signing.

I read up on stralman more, 2 ok years and 1 great year ( this year). For MSL he had 15 points in the playoffs, this is only his 6th time in the playoffs and the highest he ever had was 24 when Tampa won the cup in 03-04.

Now whenever i hear the word "dumb" i'll just think of you :handclap:

15 points in 25 games comes out to 49 points over 82 games. This comes after 8 points in 19 regular season games. He may very well put up better numbers next year, but a 39 year old experiencing a drop off isn't exactly unheard of.

Now whenever i hear the word "dumb" i'll just think of you :handclap:

Actual thought from you would be an improvement.
