I still want Shattenkirk. Two completely different players. I hope this wasn't a one or the other scenario.

A tiny bit much per year but 4 years isn't bad at all. Happy to have him back. We need players who are hard to play against and he definitely fits that label.

I'd have offered him $3.8m and told him to talk a walk if he wanted anything more than that. It's an overpayment for a guy who suppresses shots well in his role, but generates absolutely no offense.

I have a feeling this topic will be a very popular one to discuss in two-years.

Fine

Don't love the AAV but he's good and it's short, so i'll live

This is where I am.

It's not a huge bargain or anything, but he's a good player (who brings elements the team needs) and the contract does not represent a danger of becoming an albatross.

Decent move. Will like it a bit more or less depending on what other moves are made.

Lose a solid d-man who we know plays well with Skjei over .5m?

No thanks.

Quality players get paid when they can. He's good and this isn't a monstrous deal.

Thing is, I see him as a Methot like player, perfect complimentary to an offense generating Defenseman like McD, Skjei or DeAngelo. The guy is tough as nails and can make nice outlet passes as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see an uptick in offense after getting used to our system.

3.8 is the vicinity I was hoping for, as well. Hope this doesn't blow up in our face.

I don't mind the lack of offense as long as he can defend. We haven't had a decent shot suppressor since Stralman. The offense can be carried from the backend by other guys in our system and if we do sign Shatty, him too.

Essentially, Smith replaces Giradi and if Klein is gone, we SAVE money. I'm totally ok with it at 4.3M would i like 4-4.25M sure, but a few hundred grand I won't go nuts over.

Looks like I like him more than anyone. For me, he is modern defensive D who pushes the play the right way. He does not get points but he is good passer and great at transitioning the puck. I am OK with this deal.

Glad he is back, a little over payment but he was very good here. Does this likely mean Rangers are out on Shattenkirk?

I've come to realize that Shatty isn't the right signing for us now. I think that Smith does start up top with Mc and that Bearglands, Deangelo, Holden, Pionk battle for other 2 slots

Yep... I don't see us signing Shatty for what he wants and we have Miller/Hayes/Skjei coming up next year (although Nash comes off the books).

good deal. love the Skjei-Smith pair as the 2nd pair. would have hated to let him walk after giving up 2 picks

sure would have loved a lower AAV but silly to complain about a few 100k. that is right in the ballpark where he should be.
