Just throwing together a lineup. Disregard line numbers. Vigneault is more adept at using his whole bench than Tortorella.

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Richards - Callahan
Pouliot - Brassard - Zuccarello
Pyatt - Moore - Dorsett
Boyle

HTF: Kristo, Miller, Fast, Lindberg, Hrivik

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Moore
Del Zotto - Stralman
Falk, Johnson

HTF: Syvret, McIlrath

Lundqvist
Biron

HTF: Talbot

Someone on the "4th line" needs to sit. Does Boyle, Pyatt, or Dorsett sit? Going to have to be a rotation. Finally solid looking depth on the bottom six. Finally.

Good young players ready for a call up when the time comes. Are Callahan and Hagelin going to be ready?

Looks good. Good job by Sather, Gorton, and co. Now go get the RFAs signed.

Great signing. Very cheap for someone who was on pace for 40+ points last year, surprised he didn't want 4mil like the other FA's would. Pouliot provides some size, some physicality, and some depth scoring. He makes less than Pyatt and Boyle...

Boyle and Dorsett over Pyatt easily.

Pyatt definitely would sit. And MZA belongs in the top 6 not the bottom 6. Switch him and Cally. Also Moore is a LD.

My lineup if I was AV-

Hagelin Stepan Nash
Kreider Richards MZA
Pouliot Brassard Callahan
Boyle Moore Dorsett
Pyatt

McDonagh Girardi
Staal DelZotto
Moore Stralman
Falk

Hell of a 3rd line if you ask me. Adding Moore was great, gives us speed and a good PKer plus good faceoff taker.

Pretty good depth at all positions, Boyle over Pyatt for sure, the more face off guys in the lineup the better. Cally and Hags won't be ready until Nov the earliest, so well get a good look at a few prospects coming up. If Richards has a renaissance things will be good. They might make a move for a RH D-man who can shoot. Bottom 6 looks a lot better.

I don't understand how some of you define "physical"

In what planet is a 6'3 210+ pound player with 90+ hits a season "soft"?

Perhaps instead of saying "soft" you can say what you actually mean, he doesn't fight much

it might be "soft" but I'd put Zucc with Richards. Richards I thought played much better with Zucc. of course Richards was also good with Hags in 11/12 so...

Like I said, when he is on his game he is playing physical. But that isn't anywhere near all the time.

How do you manage to get 90+ hits in a season if he rarely is hitting?

Does he have 20 hits in a game then go home and cry for the next 20?

Some of you have some odd definitions of things

Again. Disregard superficial line numbers.

First, Richards has worked consistently his best as a Ranger with Callahan. Richards is the one who first learned to exploit Hagelin's speed to his advantage. They need to be together.

Brassard and Zuccarello worked very well together. Natural chemistry between the two. They should stay together.

Kreider's best moments with the Rangers have mostly come with Stepan on the ice. Stepan and Kreider should be attached at the hip at even strength. There is no one else in this lineup that knows how to exploit Kreider's strengths. Nash created a ton of space for them. They should stay together.

You can mix and match the bottom line. But the natural chemistry should be utilized. Thats how to properly construct a lineup. Not by "who should be where based on superficial line numbers".

John Moore is a lefty, yes. Del Zotto is AWFUL on the right side. He should not, under any circumstances be on the right side. Ever. John Moore is the only lefty that should be put there. MAYBE Staal.

Del Zotto and Stralman were fine together.

Everyone's role changes from situation to situation. Certain guys will get boosts in ice time based on Power Play, Penalty Kill, and 4v4.

if Kreider has a break out year we will have alot more scoring than people think. I FULLY expect a bounce back year from Richards who is essentially playing for a new contract

Explain how someone gets 90+ hits in a season if they rarely hit

Stats, especially hits, mean next to nothing. 90 hits is 1 per game. How many does Pyatt average?

Whe he is on, he hits and uses his size. Whe he is not, he is not physical and is close to invisible. That's just the way he is.

I'm sorry if by looking at stats you feel he is better than he is?

I think Pouliot is physical. Certainly not overly physical but has a physical element to his game.

I just have an issue with calling everyone and anyone soft. He's a bigger guy who hits plenty. Not a fighter.

Does that make him soft? What is the standard here? Is everyone compared to Lucic?

And Pyatt is certainly physical and hits plenty. He just isn't a race horse guy like Lucic is that barrels into people at 100 mph.

Full lineup:

Pouliot-Stepan-Nash
Richards-Brassard-Zuccarello
Hagelin-Boyle-Callahan
Pyatt-Moore-Dorsett

Pouliot will fight. I wouldn't call him soft, per se, but he isn't someone who really intimidates. I think he helps a bit, but not much. He is a faster Pyatt. And that's not a knock no him. I like the signing.

He has size, and he will hit. I don't understand what "soft" means on this board at all.

Soft to me would be a guy that completely shies away from contact taking or giving.

I don't see anyone on the rangers who doesn't hit, or is unwilling to take a hit. Richards is probably as close as they come

This is his 5th team since he was drafted in 2005. That is something that is much more worrysome than any other stats. Anyone have some insight into why that is? Is it that he has just been a victim of circumstance? Is he a bad attitude guy or poor locker room presence?

Overall, it seems like a nice low risk move and it will create some fierce competition for people wanting bottom 6 roles on this team. That is the situation you want. If someone plays badly they know that there is a line waiting out the door for their spot.

For reference in regards to offensive ability:

Last 3 years average for Pouliot are 16-19-35 and ~12mins/game (sh% range from 10-15)
Last 3 years average for Clarkson are 22-12-34 and ~15.5 mins/game (sh% range from 6-13)

So they are comparable offensively - Pouliots production is actually better. So I guess Clarksons defense/hitting/PK'ing are worth 4M+ more then?

Toronto probably is expecting more than 35 pts from Clarkson but tbh expecting more than that is pretty unreasonable. That's what he is. I suppose play him with Kessel and sure he'll get more points but thats just based on playing more with more skilled guys rather than skill (as in anyone can play there and improve their numbers)

THAT'S insane.

4+ million?

wow
