I'd put Panarin with our 2C. As things stand, I'd put Howden there. He's the furthest along of 'our' centers and has shown he can play great hockey. I think he'd be a nice compliment to that line.

Kakko Zibs Buch
Panarin Howden Kravtsov
Lemiuex Lias/Strome Chytil
Boo Lias/Strome Fast

Unless Chytil has taken MAJOR strides in 1 offseason, he's not ready for top9 center duties.
Panarin and Howden is an interesting combo. We saw how a young guy like Dubois flourished playing with Panarin, and I could see Howden doing the same (not to compare Dubois and Howden directly bc Dubois is better). He’s underrated offensively, I think he’s very cerebral and sneakily shifty.

Then again, Chytil-Kakko is also a very intriguing combo. We could go off with the spreading it around and have 3 pairs:

xx-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Howden-xx
xx-Chytil-Kakko

Oh and if Howden/Panarin do see significant time together @Machinehead better be ready to lose that Howden bet :naughty: (though he should be prepared either way)

I adore Kreider but Panarin changes things on him quite a bit.

We could ice a top 6 of (let's just say):

Kravtsov-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Panarin-Chytil-Kakko

That's not great and Kreider makes it great, but we don't need it to be great this year. Stay committed to the rebuild. Get cap and futures.

Not a North American in sight.

Buch is on the top line so there is at least one.

The talk was that Kreider's money would go towards paying for Panarin, so I don't think that's changed at all.

I'm also not totally convinced that the Rangers aren't at least still willing to listen on Buch.
Edmonton still hasn’t filled that hole

Wherever I'm standing atm
St Louis and Richards were pretty important for the Rangers in making those couple of runs

Whether it was worth the price paid, since they didn't win the cup, is ultimately the bigger question, but trying to downplay their role just makes your argument look]

Or maybe you're exaggerating their role which makes your argument weaker. That's the problem you run Into when you assume you're interpretation is the only one that has merit. You end up making dishonest points.

Also I dont think you get it. The other guy started this by arguing against a point I never made. Then you failed to see that my last post was highlighting a possibility that you and he apparently failed to even consider. Now you're deciding I'm "downplaying" their role to some arbitrary, unquantified degree...and you decided that this unquantified amount of "downplaying" goes far enough that it helps invalidate the point that I never made to begin with

If someone feels Richard's and st Louis were integral to making the finals, great. Theres a valid argument for that. I didnt say they weren't in my initial post. I simply spoke about guys failing to live up to their contracts/trade value in broad terms. Anyone being honest can admit that both of them consistently and frustratingly performed well under what was expected.

That's my point. Nothing about playoffs. Nothing about if it was worth it bc we made the finals. The other guy pulled a dumb rebuttal about the finals out of his butt.

SEPARATELY I could also discuss if I think they were needed for a cup run. But that's a separate point and is not one I was initially making

So now that we have Panarin and all is good in the world, a very important crucial decision is still on the docket and that is.......What # does he wear this season? It obviously can't be #9...it can't be #99 or a #66......which direction does he go?

Well I figured it out because this is the kind of important shit I do while I'm working in my office. I see him wearing something in the 90's....a 96 for instance would look good one the Breadman as he get's to play in a 9 and the 6 is his upside down 9. So official prediction from me is Panarin will be wearing 96 this season....so start putting your orders together....lol

Oh and while I'm at it, somehow, someway Kakko I'm thinking will be wearing #24 as he'll make a deal with Nieves who can now take Vesey's old #.

Only important stuff is ever discussed on the NY Ranger board....hah

Love the signing of Panarin. I think it will benefit the youngsters the greatest especially Kakko. Instead of all the pressure being on Kakko to be the savior of the team, all the pressure will be on Panarin.

I would think Shatty has to be moved even if they retain. Namestnikov definitely has to go for anything and Smith and Beleskey sent to minors if their salary can't be moved, saving about $1M on each(if I'm correct here. Not sure). If they retain 50% on Shatty, Namest $4M gone and $2M on Smith and Beleskey, could they keep Kreider for a bit and also sign all RFA's including Trouba?

I think Kreider should at least be held until the TDL unless blown away by an offer.

Kravtsov - Z - Buch
Names - Chytil - Panarin
Lias - Howden - Kakko

Brief rationale: 1) Playing with Z could help Kravtsov get off to a good start, 2) Chytil could benefit from playing with Panarin, who could also kickstart Names’ offense, 3) Lias could benefit from playing with an offensive talent like Kakko.

Move the players around depending on performance and chemistry. Don’t force lines that don’t gel; give players opportunities — if not 5v5 then at least on special teams. That means Kravtsov, Chytil and Kakko to the PP; Lias to the PK. If nothing is working, back to Hartford for more ice time and measured growth.

Thoughts?

Thinking why would NYR pay $11.6 million for Panarin to play on 2nd line?

It's not the 2nd line. It's 1A/1B getting equal ice time and dropping the ice time of the 4th line. Panarin split from Zibanejad provides much more balance to the lineup and mitigates the weakness we have at C2.

Exactly this.

Hogwash...fancy way of saying he's on 2nd line.

One thing I really like about Panarin, compared to all of our other big UFA signings of the past, is that he’s got a really enthusiastic personality on the ice.
