Agree, itll have to be at the end of the year - especially considering all of the excuses (no camp, shortened season, player turnover, injuries now creeping in) there's no way IMO that he is axed this season. This team is too talented to fall of the map like that. Lundqvist alone would prevent that type of record.
Heres a guy thats changed the culture of the team, gets the team a 1 seed, goes out late in the Eastern Finals.. only to be fired early in the year the next season? Not happening.
I dont see how changing the coach would benefit the team at this point either, because they would most likely have to institute an entirely new system (lets not forget they try to play a very similar system in Connecticut so its easier for the players to assimilate to the NHL level), because if they did fire him who would replace him? Sullivan? Ruff? Someone else? It would be a ****show

LoL I won't lie I was just looking for it myself. I remember seeing it on Sportscenter while in Physical Therapy the next day too. I'm sure its out there somewhere.

Can't possibly imagine that Torts gets fired in a lockout-shortened season in which he couldn't even run full practices because the players complained they were too tired. Next season, with the benefit of a full camp, is a different story.

A lot of times I just chalk it up to extreme impatience. I think some people just want to see some kind of move made just for the sake of it.

Hello Guys, most of you might not agree with me today but I am very upset..I have been a rangers fan since the 1970......
Rangers have to much confusion on the bench,
To many bench penalties, players moving up and down from AHL everyday, NO line is sacred on the Rangers everyday you have a new linemate.
He misuses all the young kids including Krieder!!, Krieder is up and down more than a yoo-yoo!.. the kid can skate real fast & score just like last season in the playoffs, if he screwed up on D so what!! thats why you have defense,men..
He got rid of Orr & Scott two top fighters in the league, why get rid of them, you dont play 4th lines anyway!!.. PROBABLY he is afraid of them.
torts only rolls 3 lines in a game when teams uses all 4 lines, and uses 4 defensemen instead of 5 or 6.. he has his top 6 players that run 20+ minutes a game, Of course they will be tired an make mistakes.
Devils beat the rangers last yr because the rangers were tired rolling only 3 lines.. an 80 game season took a toll on them, You think the devils didn't know that??? They kept shooting the puck in an had the rangers defense chase it deep in there own end and get tired.. Devils 4th line destroyed us in the playoffs with Carter & Henrique.......
Every team in the league is wise to torts system.. He has Rick Nash a 30/40 goal scorer getting $8M and he is blocking shots!!!. He is there to score goals an set up the other guys,,.Between Gaborik, Nash, Krieder the rangers should roll..
All the kids get yelled at or benched for mistakes but if Richards, girardi or stall makes a mistake its OK!.. thats bullcrap.....
This team looking at it should win the cup the next 2 yrs..Torts disrupts the team chemistry to much.. Torts knows it is a short season if he screws up this weekend an goes 8-8 beware, an hope he gets the hell out of town....

If this is the case, why isn't he scoring then? Kreider has been noticeably ineffective this season. If he screws up on D, it is a big deal. Turnovers exist for a reason and giving the other team the puck is generally frowned upon.
What does Orr have to do with anything? Guy hasn't been on this team since forever and John Scott is a horrible hockey player. If they make up your 4th line, that's called a bad hockey team.
I would have agreed with this last season. I find it to be significantly more balanced this year especially on D. Gilroy and Stralman eat up way more minutes than Stu ever did.
Henrique is FAR from a 4th liner, but that's just nitpicking on my part.
Good. Nash is working the system and I'd say he is doing a pretty damn good job of it.
Fair enough. Richards and Gaborik should be held to a higher standard and they do noticeably get excused from Torts doghouse.
This has been reiterated around here for a few days. If your so worried about disrupting the team, why fire the coach? Talk about upheaval. I was preparing for the worst with the the Lindy Ruff firing and I'm starting to see it.

If you want a guy who's consistent with line combos and ice time Lindy Ruff is NOT your man. He has a PhD from Torts University.
Rick Nash with $7,600,000 in salary (#18th NHL 2013) has 14 GP - 3 goals - 9 assists - 12 points but is only #69th in NHL points and a +9 with 0 PP goals in 53:59 played on PP
Brad Richards with $12,000,000 in salary (#5th NHL 2013) has 15 GP - 2 goals - 9 assists - 11 points but is only #88th in NHL points and a +2 with 0 PP goals 63:40 played on PP
Marian Gaborik with $7,500,000 in salary (#19th NHL 2013) has 15 GP - 7 goals - 4 assists - 11 points but is only #77th in NHL points and a +1 with 0 PP goals in 52:21 played on PP
These 3 players - all paid to be superstars - are not putting up the points to warrant this
The Team Captain has also had a very slow start offensively
Ryan Callahan is making $4.000.000 this year
He is in 299th place!! in total scoring in the NHL with 12 GP - 3 goals - 1 assist - 4 points and is a -4.
But he has actually scored 2 PP goals in 43:59 PP time.
The rest of the top 9 - Hagelin, Stepan, Miller/Kreider, Pyatt, and Boyle - are not paid to lead the way offensively
They are young and/or regarded as secondary pieces
Hence - together these 6 players have $0,875m, $0,875m, ~$2,600m (combined), $1,550m and $1,700m in salary this year.
That is ~ $6,250m combined - or around one fifth of what the Top 4 guys are getting in total salary.
But their point production is 26 points vs 38 points for the top 4.
So I say - Excuses are like rectums - everybody has one...
There you have the main reason for our bad results

The Rangers are mishandling Kreider right now, no doubt abut it.
But firing Tortorella right now would be stupid. He is the right coach to get this team to a Championship, IMO. But there needs to be adjustments to the roster. And they should think about bringing in a guy to work the power play. Sully has done fine with the defense corp. and PK.
Can't have lazy 7 million dollar earners doing nothing, and expect to win games consistently.
Right now the only big earners, earning their money are Henrik and Nash.
Richards and Gaborik refusal to show up are the biggest reasons this team isn't winning more consistently.

I agree that Tortorella can be hardheaded. He doesnt adjust well in-game and he is stubborn when it comes to player trust.
He did however, start rolling 4 lines pretty consistently up until Powe was injured (which sucked) and when you talk about the Devils last year, you have good points but the Rangers dont have a 4th line like them. They have guys like Asham.
He really bothers me with some of his line combos and all of the switching. Still scratching my head why hes forcing some guys like Gaborik to play in a position hes not used to. And of course the PP and refusal (Slats is to blame here as well) to bring in a dedicated PP coach pisses me off to no end.
But overall I think hes done a good job instilling a culture with this team, which for the most part is still young. However It might behoove him to change his personality a bit (a la Coughlin with the Giants when they won in 2007) just to change it up because you can sense that he is losing some of his luster here, even if a majority of the players will run through a wall for him.
I still think theres a lot of time left to right the ship, I do.
Unfortunately like Super mentioned, part of the blame is falling on the shoulders of the high-priced vets. Dare I say that the terrible reputation Slats built last decade, the one that the Rangers seemingly shook off (even though most fans around the NHL still go back to that same well in every comment thread), is rearing its ugly head again.
Guys like Richards and Gaborik need to step it up big time. Theres no way getting around that. If those two guys performed as consistently as other stars on this team like Cally and Hank, none of this would be an issue.

Torts clearly helped make this team a legit contender and people want him gone at the first sign of trouble.
Familiarity breeds contempt. Give people enough time around eachother and they will find things they dislike about the person.
Every coach has negatives... It's just about the big picture and whether they help that team win. The Rangers can win a cup with Tortorella as coach. THink it's better to just leave him alone and keep trying to get the players around him.

My biggest gripe with Torts is that he seems unwilling or incapable of making ANY in game adjustments besides changing line combos.
Last night Pierre made a comment about how Lavi had 2 guys going after the puck down low in the Pens zone. How it was a great in game adjustment to counter what the Pens were trying to do yadda yadda yadda.
I couldn't help but think would Torts have done the same ? I cam away thinking NO.
He seems to want to push his system regardless of what the other team is doing.
Kind of like an NFL team who continues to try to run the ball when the defense has stacked the box.
