Sorry if already discussed: How did the third Dallas goal ever count??

It clearly went of Robertson's glove--he didn't even celebrate as he knew it was BS, and the Dallas announcers did not think it would count either.

Big W regardless.
Isn't it worded basically the same as the kicking rule? If you actively 'bat' it in, no goal. If it just 'deflects' off you (so no distinct action) it's a good goal

Hmmm I always thought even if just deflected off the hand and goes in, no goal. But what do I know lol.

I think Miller will emerge as being our best defensemen in our own zone within the next 2-3 years. Fox is obviously Fox - he plays a buttery smooth game when he's on and is phenomenal at the transition game - but I'd rather have Miller out there against the toughest assignments due to his size, reach, and speed.

As good as our defensemen are, I never felt like we've had a proper replacement to McDonagh, who was the most stingy blueliner the Rangers have had in the last decade when he was on. Miller probably has the best potential to be that guy of the bunch. And at the end of the day, that type of player is what you need to win against physically imposing teams who crash the net.
He still makes a lot of mistakes. Not nearly as polished as Foxy. Everytime Foxy makes a mistake, it stands out, as it is very rare. But with Miller, on every play you have to pray he makes the right decision. Right now it's about 50-50. He gets caught pinching way too much. He does kind of make up for it somewhat, as he can make plays or break up plays other D-men can't, with his reach and speed. But he has been giving up the puck, with making the wrong decisions or just turning it over with a whiff on a pass.

A good example is the play of Braden Schneider. This kid is mistake free. It's no wonder why he has never left the lineup since his arrival.

Two questions to people who watched it live.

1) Was that first goal against just a rare stinker or did I miss some deflection or something?

2) Was the McKegg goal a purposeful deflection or did Miller's shot accidentally deflect off him?

Happy to win but bummed that Igor's numbers took a hit the last two games. Glad they're going back home where they play much better defense and Igor plays better.
The first goal was a lucky shot. First, it was by a D-men who has 4 goals on the season. Second, it was a backhand from a ridiculous angle that happened to thread the top corner. Third Panatin was all over him and bumped him good and it still went in. And Forth, it's harder for goalies to pick up backhand shots.

So it was a bit lucky to thread the top corner from that angel with Shesty hugging the post.

Miller's shot accidentally deflected off the heel of McKegg's skate.

Every time I see a goal like that I think of the goal that Hasek allowed in game 6 of the final, before the Hull goal. Similar hand, but went in between his knee and post.

Don't get me wrong. I like Miller. He has a ton of potential and is getting better everyday. He had a good game last night. But he is still more prone to turning the puck over than say Fox or Schneider. Once he cleans that up, he will be a beast.

I don't understand all the dislike for KAM. He's a homegrown defenseman whose potential is limitless. A lot of people magnify the negatives and ignore the ever growing positives.

One bad play negates all the good he's done since the break. He's been our best defender since then. We are starting to see his offensive game blossom.

It's weird to see a top prospect play well and just be put under a microscope
D take longer to develop, and big D take even longer (that’s what she said). He’s ahead of schedule but everyone wants a fully developed player after 1.5 seasons playing on the big club like Fox, or what we (rightfully) expected KK and AF to be right out of the box.

I was very critical of his lackadaisical play where he’d whiff 1-2 shots/passes per game but he’s cleaned that up and improved his O and D awareness. Still makes occasional bad reads and turn overs but he’s a mobile 6’5 22 year old it’s gonna take some experience to fully iron that out.

Did you see the Benn "dive" penalty making a "5 on 3" leading to a "goal" ?
I wasn’t playing close attention at the time so maybe I would have been upset but even a bad call or two doesn’t bother me much as long as the refs are basically incognito. And today they seemed to be so, even though the teams played pretty physically.

Does anyone hate those Stars jerseys as much as I do?

They looked glow in the dark in person.

Smaller then usual Rangers representation last night, but as loud as usual.

I missed 3 goals before I even made it to my seat. I have to admit, I was regretting making that long drive after those first 2 quick goals. Some Dallas fan got a little too cocky, but I said, hey, we can score a lot of goals if you give us 18 power plays. Once we got up 4-2, I was walking around that arena like a king.

What an offensive performance from Panarin. Even the scrubs got some points. Disappointed that Laf was kept off the scoreboard, but it was good to see him skating hard away from the puck. He doesn't lack for effort these days. I think he got the message.

I gasped a bit on that play when Shesty went for the goal. Oettinger looked pretty awful last night. Anyway, it's always good to see the Rangers win in person.

The J-Rob goal looked like Micheletti going off on a tangent, though I guess he was just watching the player's reaction and the player's reaction was weird. How could they call it back if it hit his hand, but his hand is on the stick?

The Stars game was good for almost all of our bottom six weirdos, maybe Reaves isn't a great fit on a team that's already really slow imo? But it's just one game, and it was the typical bounceback thing you see in sports where a team was playing way worse than it should for a while.

This was a great response from the boys in Dallas. In a must game, they persevered and turned what could have been a horrible road trip, into one that builds character and confidence. They lost 3 games in a row only once, all season. And two of those games went into OT. So in that respect it was a very big win against a good team on the road. And to do it , in the fashion we did, scoring a season high 7 goals, and coming from behind, it was a game that seemed to have an added significance. And it was great to see the boys bail out Shesty, as he has doing for us all year.

Hopefully this good vibe will carry over Tuesday against the Ducks. Another desperate team fighting for a playoff spot, who have lost their last 4 on the road.

At the end of the day they went on a tough 4 game Midwest road trip and got 4 of 8 points. Hardly the end of the world.

Shesterkin not himself though these past couple.

I love Schneider as much as the next guy and think he's the real deal and will be on our blueline for years to come, but calling him mistake free is just looking at him through rose colored glasses. As good as he's been, he still makes a decent amount of rookie mistakes, which is fine because he's still so young and learning, but he's certainly not mistake free.

You KNOW the vets really just wanted to enjoy the flight home and mentally relax before the next game so they made sure to put in 100% effort for the win lol

Only if it was intentionally directed in from the glove. It definitely wasn't though. He didn't even have time to react.
Correct. I went and looked it up to be sure. Here is the ruling:

78.5 Disallowed Goals – Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the
Referee and the appropriate announcement made by the Public
Address Announcer for the following reasons:

(i) When the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an
attacking player other than with a stick. When this occurs, if it is
deemed to be done deliberately, then the decision shall be NO
GOAL. A goal cannot be scored when the puck has been deliberately
batted with any part of the attacking player’s body into the net.

Miller makes more 'egregious' mistakes misplaying the puck, like on the Dallas second goal which led to the puck remaining in Dallas possession and in the back of our net. Bad reads are a bit more acceptable as that's part of the learning curve at NHL speed and skill, Miller still needs to limit those puck misplays. He's become more physical, better offensive awareness, and has also improved his misplays/D zone turnovers over last year which is very promising. But Schneider is definitely more assertive and confident with the puck on his stick especially in the D and N zones. Miller's getting there though.

He kind of adjusted the angle of his hand on the stick prior to it deflecting in which is where both crews of announcers thought the illegal goal part came from. I'd agree with GG not to challenge though, it was very subtle and didn't result really in a puck pushing motion, more of angle change attempt with the puck happening to go in off his forward facing knuckles. But even the Dallas crew thought it was coming back which is somewhat strange for such a benign hand motion on the goal.

Have you seen his career numbers at every level? His earth is not what we just witnessed on this trip. This is a blip. Not him dropping down to some average level
I meant coming back down to earth after playing like a god for the last 8 years ;)

Miller had another good game. I'm amazed that we have a 1st rounder that's developed so quickly, plays such a huge role and has so much more room for improvement. Even though it feels like he's been here forever, he's 22 and has only played 112 NHL games. After a season and a half of pro experience he's often used as part of the top pair, has dominant size compared to most Fs, great stickwork and isn't an immobile lump that treats the puck like a hand grenade like you might expect from a 6'4" dman. If he was on another team, there would be hundreds of posts on the roster building thread on what it would take to get him but the pathetic reality is that there are regular posters who keep dumping on him. It's f***ing crazy.
The grass is always greener, may apply.
Wonder how many teams are out there that would KILL for our current d corps at their ages and experience/inexperience that they have. Pretty sure there are quite a few.
Also, even though it's not really super evident right now, but our d men (as a whole) offensive talent is better than most, but NEED our forwards to be better defensively so that we can always send in 4 and rotating to cover defensively FOR them. Until THAT happens they can't join the rush quite as often. Me thinks.
