Considering what players are making nowadays, it's not far off. What would be fair? 1 mil? 1.25?

I'd pay him 1.75 a year over 4 years. In fact, I hope that's what we re-sign him for.

With the way the cap works, the price on ALL third and fourth liners has gone up across the league. I posted that in the Hank thread. Some weird trickle down **** where the top guys have a glass ceiling cap number of around 10M and the price on everyone below goes up.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Boyle get 2M as a UFA if we don't keep him.

Boyle is only decent at faceoffs? That's a new one. Boyle is 18th in the league (using guys who have taken more than 150 faceoffs this season) and far and away our best guy to take a faceoff.

And he can't forecheck? That's a bit ludicrous, too. It's the only thing he's really good at in the offensive zone (a mirror image of Marcel Hossa). Dude only has 0.32 giveaways per game. You'd think a guy who gets outmuscled and can't handle a pass would somehow have more than that. :sarcasm:

No, he can't forecheck. He is too slow to chase down the dump in and not strong enough on the boards to sustain pressure. His hands are poor; so he consistently mishandles the puck.

Don't worry, Boyle isn't getting resigned here. Also, its good you aren't a GM.

Oh, so I guess the giveaways number is wrong. A guy who is so bad on the forecheck should be giving the puck away all the time.

I'm glad you didn't address the rest of the post, too. :sarcasm:

Boyle is overly criticized and a guy any coach would miss on the 4th line. The thing that drives me nuts is how easily this 6'7" behemoth gets knocked off his skates. It's really frustrating. Puliot should be jettisoned for youth

The crazy thing is that Boyle's great giveaways per game stat is actually higher this year than it was in the past (last two years were both 0.18 per game!). You likely have to expect his current level to get a bit better as the season goes on.

I said he was decent at face-offs, and he was a PK specialist. I have nothing else to say in the matter. You want to continue to have a bumbling 4th line pk specialist at 1.75(nay 2 million a year)feel free with that sentiment. But it aint gonna happen. Lindberg will be up here by next year or even sooner. Boyle's days are numbered.

Yes. One of the best faceoff guys in the league is merely "decent."

He kills offense. It's that simple. I'm not asking for much. Just be able to control and make a pass...

It's the 4th line. All they have to do is keep the puck out of the net, maybe pop in a goal now and then, and hopefully not cause any turnovers. I'd agree with you if he was being used like Torts used him (as a 3rd liner).

and does almost nothing else other than PK.

So he's far and away our best PKer and our best guy for faceoffs. Good in his own zone during 5-on-5 and can get it into the offensive zone from the neutral zone. I agree, dude sucks in the offensive zone. All he can do is cycle it. But if you think he is not deserving of a roster spot here then I really have to question your sanity.

Why is that all the 4th line can do? What about turning or creating momentum besides just killing time.
