Staal's concussion slows MDZ possible exit; if all status quo, I don't rush him out; if a good deal, don't hesitate.

McI, if he is all that and a bag of chips, for a rookie anyway, will expedite moving Girardi. We can't afford Girardi in any scenario, his value will diminish each day because that's how much less an acquiring team will have and be able to use him, so regardless of McI, we should look to move Girardi. quickly.

I dunno man, I think we need G for now. McI, I just don't feel he's ready yet.

Okay, whoever it was above who said that fighting doesn't win hockey games is correct, in my opinion. BUT, not being able to answer the bell, to defend yourself, certainly can LOSE you some hockey games. And some man games to injury when the other team feels free to run you.

don't have a link but I remember an interview with Gordie Clarke about bringing Dylan up around christmas to evaluate him.

Check the NYR website for video archives and go back to training camp

RB has posted the article numerous times here.

The Rangers followed the plan with McI.

I hope he has an impact tonight but I am not expecting much. Would like him to go out and play a sound game, nothing too flashy. I can absolutely having a more physical presence on the blue line. Even Falk barely touches guys in front of Henrik after a whistle.

Zero clue how this addresses the real problem, goal scoring.

Hope McIlrath sticks and adds some stability to the blueline, which is also becoming a problem as this squad continues to slip.

Sounds/looks like your mind is already made up, which is just as bad as bashing the kid after a few bad plays.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind. As to the first point you make though Rangers are short a d-man right now--so they bring up a d-man. It does address a problem--maybe not the problem you want to address the most but what would you suggest Kristo instead?

i think the fact that he is being brought up is sending a message to the rest of the team that things need to change. i believe a cup of coffee call up was in the cards anyway, but this is sending a message as well.

this team needs a shake up. back to back bad losses at home and a team that has looked overmatched and uninterested in both those shellackings. they were booed off the ice against washington and that cant continue.

at this point, all the kid needs to do it lay someone out, or beat someone up, or god forbid, score a goal and msg will have a collective orgasm.

this fan base is desperate for something good to happen to this team. if big mac plays his cards right and throws a thunderous check or two, gets into a tussle protecting henrik and some how manages to score the game winning goal, he will become legend in his first game.

maybe none of that happens and hes invisible most of the night- not a bad thing, and this team comes out and plays with passion, speed and purpose and wins comfortably- then honestly, this kid may be just what the doctor ordered.

Pretty much agrees with all of this.

I think the Rangers might still try to move DZ. The thing is if McIlrath can show he's NHL ready that improves the picture on the right side. Knowing already that we might have neither of Girardi or Stralman next year whether because of trade or free agency it would be good to already know that McIlrath can at least handle some of the right side minutes at the NHL level. I think Bleed Ranger Blue could think about that. Some experience is better than none. Even if Dylan struggles and is sent down he'll at least have a better idea of the areas he needs to improve most in. He'll have an understanding of the speed and movement of the NHL--that should help make his adjustment easier for next year. IMO this is something the Rangers needed to do at some point this season even if they were playing very well.

How, exactly?

That's easy...Falk fights Jannsens, he goes to the penalty box, and doesn't kick in the goal which gives the Debbies the momentum in that game. You need to have the ability to identify and fight the next goal scorer in the game, which is something else this team lacks.

Of course.

Hahaha. I actually thought in that game "Friggin Falk. Should've fought that jerk."
But yeah, aside from identifying the next potential goal scorer and getting them off the ice, if you allow your team to be cowed, run and intimidated, your chances of winning are less than that of the team that is physically dominating you. All other things being equal. If you have a reputation of being a soft team, your better players WILL get run, and when there's enough running, there's injuries or a perpetual "looking over the shoulder". Do you think having players unavailable doesn't contribute to losses? Do you think the worry of being run doesn't contribute to turnovers and opposition scoring? Again, I'm not saying that being a bunch of goons means you will win more games, just that you need to be able to stand up for yourself. I don't think its exactly a radical concept. Every edge is an EDGE, including the physical one.

As opposed to non-soft teams?

Yup. I didn't say that teams that have a tougher reputation NEVER have their better players run, but it's less prevalent. Which means the odds of it costing you are less.

Notice I didn't say in my original post "If you have no toughness you will lose all of your games." We aren't talking in absolutes. If I said a lack of defense will lose you some games, would you turn around and give me examples of lousy defensive teams with wins? If a team is deficient in one area it has to make up for it in another. But a deficiency is STILL a deficiency, and until they take physicality and fighting out of the game, its to a teams advantage NOT to be deficient in it. Its not complicated.

I disagree that it's less prevalent. I don't think there's anything a team can do that is a deterrent in any way.

Looks at what's been done to the Bruins this year.

Well there's nothing wrong with a healthy disagreement.

Hopefully lack of toughness becomes less of an issue.

This kid seems to know his business...

The Undertaker missed the first half a season in Hartford last year. The team was pushed around badly, including Talbot getting run over in the net. Everyone was just used to the fact that Hartford was the geeky kid everyone got to pick on.

Then McIlrath arrived. A dozen games later, everyone stopped picking on the geeks.

You can trade Del Zotto now while Staal is out. I'm looking at the draft right now. Tank Tank Tank.

They're currently 9th...

He's not ready to fill the role they now need him to fill. He was likely to get a call up sure, but walking into this $#!+ storm?

But hey this is your lot when your a Rangers prospect. No pressure kid.

It is no different than on any other team.

More people are excited about him fighting than being a good defenseman who is physical. They don't understand hockey. What does it matter if he beats someone up other than making some fans cream their pants?

Those more concerned about his fighting skills than his NHL skills make Sather look like a hockey genius. Fights are fun to watch but they don't impact the final results. One person even opined that if he does not fight that the Rangers will lose to Columbus. Amazing thought process.
