After he messes up for the 1st time I bet some stupid fans on here will think that he is Stu Bickel number 2.
Yeah. A lot of that will be goin' 'round.

He's 6'5"? Wow I had no idea he was that tall.

The Rangers had an idea of when they were going to evaluate McIlrath. They wanted him to play major minutes in the AHL. Aaron Johnson was a big help in McIlrath's development. Johnson has played in the NHL and he knows how the player should prepare for the NHL. I remember Gordie Clark spoke to the Hockey News in the fall of 2010 about McDonagh. He said McDonagh was going to get a call up in the near future. There were people here saying McD wasn't ready and Valentenko was more worthy of the call up. Rozsival hurt a rib and the Rangers put McD in the lineup. Tortorella said the plan was for McD to practice with the team and go from there. They put McDonagh on third pair in a game on the road against the Stars and he never left the lineup. Staal gets hurt. The other D aren't playing well. McIlrath has his opportunity.
McIlrath is the defenseman version of Milan Lucic. Gorton played a major role in both of those selections.
Hamonic is one of McIlrath's best friends. They are both from Winnipeg and were teammates in Moose Jaw. If McIlrath is Hamonic, the Rangers have a very good player on their hands. Adam Foote is another comparison.
Very fight
Much toughness.
I'm giddy, really like this kid as a player and person I think he has some very good leadership qualities as well. Hope he plays a solid game and adds some physicality. I'm not expecting anything above and beyond that. If he plays a simple game he'll be fine. I do not anticipate the overreaction of this fan base if he happens to make a defensive gaff or take a penalty though...
when Hamonic becomes an UFA if the Islanders are stupid to let him leave, id love to have him.. one of the few Islanders that i would not mind on this team. solid....defensive defenseman and is tough... he should wear the A for the Islanders in the future
Gives me a pretty compelling reason to tune in tomorrow. Who comes out? Falk? MDZ?
Completely agree. Giving a prospect a look for a few games can be beneficial. If they get sent back down, let it be for a while. Don't like the JT Miller yo-yo style of prospect development. If nothing else it's good for your prospects when they get a taste. It's a step up--a challenge for them and opportunity to see for themselves the stuff they need to work on the most. Whether or not the Rangers are in the final mix it wouldn't hurt guys like Kristo, Lindberg, Allen to get a look or even Fast again when he's healthy.
dorsett as the team's only 'tough' player is poor. but add mcilrath and asham and maybe it's not so bleak.
while everyone is excited to see what this kid can do, im afraid he cant do much to help this team win games.
changing the dynamics of the team from within is great. adding toughness and a guy who can take on the other teams tough guy has its place. a fight or big hit can change the tone of a game.
but this game is all about talent. physical, mental and hockey talent. plain and simple. you cannot fight your way to wins. toughness does not equal goal scoring.
what mcilrath brings has value, albeit to a lesser extent in todays nhl. would i have preferred a scoring forward or a pmd over him, well we all know the answer to that one. now that hes here, i expect him to play well and develop into the kind of player we were told he would be. im gonna be rooting for him.
lets all be giddy, and with good reason as this organization has alot invested in this kid. but lets not expect this to change much. hes not really what we need.....
this team is still seriously flawed with or without dylan mcilrath.
