Wonderful. So the kid will be asked to find his footing as an NHL defenseman and carry a heavy burden of the physical load.

Not too much to ask of a young kid.

Lol dude he will get 3rd pair minutes. Let's get off the ledge. They 3 and 6 to start the yr , they can bounce back

I don't care if he fights. I just hope he's able to feel comfortable on the ice and can limit the mistakes. Don't want him to get down on himself for screwing up but, by all accounts, he seems like a pretty tough kid mentally. Definitely not a doof like MDZ.

Interesting interview, sound like he's exactly the guy we need :)

That clip was from his first game last year--Dylan just coming back from rehabbing a displaced kneecap. It was two-two and a half months into his first pro season before he was finally able to play--he got into a fight with Bret Gallant one of toughest players in the AHL and it was a draw. Gallant is not that big--but he's like a bigger version of Jon Mirasty. He's more than willing to trade punch for punch with anybody and throws with both hands and Gallant has a reputation for beating much bigger guys and he can hurt you. Apart from that though Gallant is a lousy hockey player. The AHL has a lot of guys who can really go--more than the NHL. Letourneau-Leblond, Joel Rechlicz, Steve MacIntyre are some of the best ones. Luke Gazdic who's making a name for himself with the Oilers this year just creamed Colorado's Bordeleau a couple weeks ago--Gazdic put in a lot of time in the minors. McIlrath has had quite an education the last year or so down there. He's fought a lot of guys. He hits really hard and unlike a lot of the above he should eventually turn into a pretty good player.

After he messes up for the 1st time I bet some stupid fans on here will think that he is Stu Bickel number 2.

Very excited that he is finally getting a chance. Cant wait till tomorrow night to see him, i hope he plays great.

since McIlrath knows how to fight, maybe he can team some of the current Rangers this.. imagine if somehow he turned Boyle into a good fighter.

He'd have to do a testicle implant; and since he's not a physician, this order is too tall.

Whether or not he fights or lays huge hits, he'll bring a tough attitude and intensity that the team could really use. I'm eager to see what he can do at this level. If he can be a decent third pairing guy who brings a real edge, that'd be good for the immediate time being.

Not seeing the problem putting him on the ice. It's not like this is an uber experienced veteran D corp out there. Falk just turned 25 and has about a season and a half of experience. Moore is two years older than McIlrath and also only a season and a half of experience. Put the guy on the ice and let him play. What's he gonna do, die from getting a little experience?

I agree the circumstances aren't ideal. On the flip side, maybe he does alright. At the very least it's not like he has to worry about any pressure of coming in and making the team suck: they're already there. It'll be status quo or improve, but it can't hurt to give the dude a look. After all, these are the moments these guys dream about, when a hole presents itself for them to jump into the lineup and get a chance to earn a spot. Good on him. Hope he does well.

Hey, you know what? If this guy is NHL-ready then we get to see someone who can really help the team. If he isn't, well, this year is turning into a bit of a bust anyway, but part of the fun of bust years is getting to see young players take a crack at the lineup.

Either way, happy for the kid and looking forward to tomorrow night's game just for this.

Also, you never know. 3 years ago, we saw a defenseman get an injury call-up, and despite playing on a different side, made that defenseman expendable. Soon after said injured player was healthy, he was traded. It could happen again. We would just need to hope that the return is better than Wolski.

Can't wait to see what this kid has. Been following him for years.

My only fear is that if they yo-yo him around, it will ruin him.

He needs to stay. They need to commit to him. If AV doesn't understand that. Fire his ass. For the type of defenseman the team wants him to be, that would be the worst thing that they could possibly do.

Give him 12-14 minutes a game. Live with the bad. He's a longterm investment, treat him like one. Invest in him, through the bad, and you'll get the good in the near future. That should be the mindset.

Does he deserve 12-14 minutes? No. But for him to properly develop, he needs the experience. 6-10 minutes isn't cutting it for him to develop the way that you want. Give him the time. Reassure him by continuing to send him out there consistently when he makes mistakes. He'll pay dividends then.

Or continue to develop him in the AHL @ 20-25 minutes a game.

Only 2 viable options.

Considering that he has been endlessly touted as just that, why shouldn't that be his role?

He's not ready to fill the role they now need him to fill. He was likely to get a call up sure, but walking into this $#!+ storm?

But hey this is your lot when your a Rangers prospect. No pressure kid.

Christmas morning, Christmas morning

I'll keep a close eye on The Undertaker tomorrow.

CBJ puts out a good physical lineup that's not overly fast, so it'll be good to get him playing his style of game right off the bat.

He and Yogan were the two prospects I chose to follow when they both were drafted so happy to see him getting his cup of joe.
