FWIW, I'm not advocating rushing anyone. But--we're talking about what to do with a guy next year before we've even seen what he can do this year. If there's any rushing going on, it's declaring that Korczak needs an overage year when he's a handful of games into his age-19 season. I understand last season was unusual and not particularly helpful developmentally, but let's see what he can do this year before we decide where he should be playing next year.

Fair enough. It's hard not to overreact sometimes, given the player development hiccups in this rebuild.

Lindbum stopped 25/26 shots for the win. That's his second consecutive very strong game. Dichow's hold on the starting spot has always been tenuous and if Lindbom keeps playing well he will win that spot back.

Ragnarsson had another assist. That's 7 in 10 games, which is impressive for him as he only had 5 points total in 40+ games last season. He's still not really a prospect, but it's nice to see him doing well playing big minutes for Almtuna.

Tärnström had a secondary assist. 18 points in 15 games after starting with 9 in his first 4.

Edstrom has a game going on.

Frolunda is playing but Henriksson is out. Apparently he has a hand injury.

The thing about Berard that makes it hard to predict is because he's been on such an exponential rise over the past few years. He went from basically an afterthought on the U-17 team and the USHL to a great performer on the U-18 and in the WJC. Now, he's gone from having a steady first NCAA year to absolutely lighting it up so far this season.

So the question will be whether he continues to just grow and adapt as a player as he increases the level of opposition, or if he will eventually hit a wall the way a lot of smaller forwards do.

If he puts everything together I don't think Arvidsson is a terrible comparison for upside, but that's obviously extremely optimistic.

Yeah, Berard’s size is also an amazing asset, he is built exactly like the players having the most success in this league right now.
With the rule changes over the past decade smaller skaters have increased in value. Balance tends to be better on smaller bodies and if you've also got a good first step you can slide in and out of the high danger areas more efficiently for a scoring chance or to be a low risk passing option to continue the cycle.

I’ve loved what I’ve seen from the bits of Berard I’ve watched this season, but I do want to see this trend of driving play continue before thinking he’s fully hit this next level. He’s shooting like 25% right now, and I’m expecting that to drop a bit

Conor Garland.

@nyr2k2 how far away do you think Berard is? When would you expect to see him in the NHL?

I think @Fitzy hit the nail on the head with his analysis.

Coming into the year I would have said he'd need this year and next at Providence and then at least a year in the AHL before he could realistically push for a spot. But, what he's doing this year is what I'd have hoped to see him doing next year. So he's really improving rapidly and now it's hard to project. Again, as Fitzy mentioned--he's a little guy. Obviously that's not as much of a problem in today's NHL, but guys his size it's not uncommon to see them possess all the skill in the world and eventually just hit a damn wall because they just can't handle it physically. That said, Berard does show a willingness to go to the tough areas and is smart enough to be successful without being stronger than everyone. So I'm optimistic he's one of the little guys that will make it.

If he keeps up this level of play I would think the Rangers definitely make a push to get him signed after his season concludes and then get him an ATO to play for Hartford. I still think he's two years out from legitimately challenging for a spot, but who knows, he keeps exceeding the reasonable expectations for him.

Lindbum in the middle of his third straight excellent start, having stopped 29/31 shots through 2 periods. Looks like he may win the starting job back from Dichow, the Habs' kid.
Unfortunately he allowed 2 goals in the final 52 seconds as HV71 forced OT and later won in the SO. :(
