IDK if the NHL as a whole will do it, but the Rangers seem to be doing it. Though they've also drafted guys like Crawley, Lakatos, Virta, and Fontaine recently. Not sure if this is something the Rangers are focusing on, but the past two drafts, they've been taking players who are "young" for their first draft eligible year. Keane was one of those guys. Chytil, Lundkvist, Pajuniemi, Hughes, and Sjalin played or are playing their D+1 season as an 18 year old for what amounts to be the entire season. We heard tons about Chytil last year being only eligible because he was born 3 days before the cutoff. There are quite of few of these guys who fit the same mold.
Pajuniemi was an "overage" player because he missed being a first time draft eligible player by 1 day. Some of these other players were born in late June/early July. Is this something to be thinking about when drafting players moving forward? In comparison, someone like Nolan Patrick was basically a full year older than Chytil. He'll be 20 when the season begins.
With what we know with player development, and player development ending around 24 (in terms of skill development), are we going to see the NHL start going to way of the NBA as the youngest possible players being higher regarded, but less polished?
Blueshirt Banter 2018 New York Rangers Prospect Rankings: 25-21
Woof, Lindgren at 25? Going to be mighty tough to take his prospect ranking very serious..
couldn't find a roster...pajuniemi is not playing at the WJSS right?
I feel like the Lindbom pick really started day 2 of the draft off on the wrong foot for a lot of people and attitudes kind of slid downhill from there, but most of the picks they made look a lot better now that everything has kind of settled downJust done a quick count.
There were six Finnish forwards taken before him in this draft and six more taken in the fourth round or earlier last year.
That Pajuniemi is a favourite to make the WJC roster is a testament to the value we found with that pick.
Watching the replay right now. Keane is very impressive. He’s also getting a lot of ice time. Are they replaying this game?

Both Keane and Lundkvist got overtime ice when the benches were shortened.
Lundkvist was playing LD - his offside. Any idea why? Any comments from Sweden coaches or someone else close to Sweden team?
I think it will stay around the same. They can’t go too young because it’s against the rules in place and most of the kids that age are still developing physically. Not sure if this is something the Rangers are focusing on, but the past two drafts, they've been taking players who are "young" for their first draft eligible year. At this point the picks I have issues with are Lindbom, Gross and KjellbergI feel like the Lindbom pick really started day 2 of the draft off on the wrong foot for a lot of people and attitudes kind of slid downhill from there, but most of the picks they made look a lot better now that everything has kind of settled down
That’s fair, those are probably the 3 picks I like the least too, but I’d have Gross on a tier of “meh, I guess” in terms of how much I like itAt this point the picks I have issues with are Lindbom, Gross and Kjellberg
The rest are defensible/good picks
But yes them taking Lindbom at 39 took the air out of everyone’s sails
Trading away one of the seconds not getting another one and then picking a goalie with the one we had with all that talent on the board is what pissed people off.
That and passing on Wahlstrom and Dobson. Although there’s nothing not to like about kravstov.
Then there's nothing wrong with this. Because if we had picked Wahlstrom, people would cry passed on defenseman Dobson and higher upside Kravtsov.
Yeah, once AZ went off the board it was set for the Isles to grab two top players. It sucks but its not within NYR's control either.Well that and we were always going to be crying about the Isles draft. They were going to have a pick of 2 of Wahlstrom, Dobson, or Kravtsov. They were going to make out like bandits no matter what the Rangers did

Maybe one or two people would of complained about Wahlstrom there; that would of been it.
I went back and read the draft GDT last week, and after Chicago's pick, every single person was excited to be getting Wahlstrom. If anything, the board has reacted with surprising maturity in accepting that Kravtsov was an excellent pick and not a reach.
