The Athletic has a nice article, including some snippets about Nils Lundkvist in an article by Pronman speaking with Sweden's WJC coach.

The Swedish Federation definitely sees him as a steady, two way defenseman as opposed to an offensive defenseman.

Here they are for those interested:
CP: Nils Lundkvist (NYR) was a big riser in terms of his draft stock, also due to a growth spurt. What were your impressions of his growth throughout all last season?
Monten:
He played really good when he played in the pro league for Lulea at home against men. I didn’t think he was that good when he played junior and at the Under-18’s he was a little bit up and down, but when he played at a higher level he was really good. I think that’s why he rose for the draft. That’s his thing, if he can play a solid two-way game without getting too much pressure on him to put up points and play a skilled game, I think he can be really good and be in the run to make the team.
CP: From watching him he doesn’t seem like a very dynamic, flashy kind of player offensively, he seems like more of a smart, quiet two-way defenseman.
Monten:
For sure. He can play at both ends of the ice, but I think the biggest part of his game is his smarts. He reads the play well, he has good gaps, he has a good stick, and he can defend even though he’s small and then he can move the puck and get the play going and get up the ice with his speed. We’re not looking for him to run the power play or put up points; we’re looking for him to be a solid two-way D.
CP: He wasn’t that for the U18 team either, he was like a second power play kind of guy.
Monten:
Right and that’s the thing, it wasn’t his play with the U18 team, it was how well he played in the pro league, it’s why he was picked so high.

Pronman: Sweden's world juniors coach Tomas Monten reports on Adam Boqvist and more top NHL prospects Pronman: Sweden's world juniors coach Tomas Monten reports...

What i got from that is that he is misused on the international level and we should not look too much into his play at the WJSS and WJC. Cool.

Or he might be a guy who is just better at letting the game come to him, and taking what is given on the ice, instead of trying to force a specific style. Will be interesting to see how he does this year, presumably with bigger expectations for his team.

Gotta admit guys, I'm a little confused.

I was under the impression that Lundkvist has always been considered more of a puck-moving two way guy.

Weren't his intelligence and transition game the two biggest strengths that people talked about leading up the draft?

Yes. That's been the line on him for some time now.

I heard a Stralman comparison a few times, so that's the impression that I got.

In the top quote from you, I highlighted the point where you said that the Rangers' drsft history is working against him. We're talking in the context or prospect rankings. I think any normal and reasonable person would infer from your quote that Andersson gets docked because he was drafted by the Rangers. I don't know if you meant by you, or by others, and I don't really care. I just saw that statement and thought it was completely absurd.

The second point I bolded makes me even more confused. You're saying that you never factored it into rankings, but it's just reality. What is just reality? Again, this seems to be implying that "it's just reality" that Andersson being a first round pick of the Rangers works against him. Which, again, whatever, I don't care, I just think that's an amateurish way to evaluate a player, even if it's just a small part of the evaluation.

As you can imagine, I'm quite familiar with the Rangers' track record in round one. However, the fact that those guys sucked literally has no bearing on Andersson. Surely you understand that.

Again, you can rank Andersson 209th. Not really concerned about it. I just think your statement about Andersson and being a Rangers pick was pretty silly (though maybe you didn't mean it...or say it...I'm not sure what the reality is).

DING DING DING We have a winner!
