So the Rangers have 48 hours to sign Bernhardt (who retired) and Lakatos to ELC's or else they lose their rights!!

Don't think either will get signed, so we now return to our scheduled program of beef!!

Yeah I posted a video of Lakatos hoping that would kind of swing things back to relevant discussion, but to no avail.

So you’re saying things change from year to year and thus the plan changes? Some here would argue you must strictly adhere to one and only one plan, through and through. Don’t deviate.

I wasn't much trying to say anything but if I were then yes it would be that things change (and change quickly) from year to year so comparing one off season to a large block of time is kind of foolish. And that's not even taking into account how the perception of prospects are altered by the other prospects, or lack thereof, around them.

lol i still remember the hype over him after that one prospect camp
People were calling him "Bashin' Pashnin" or something stupid like that. And then there was the matter of him going first overall in the KHL draft, which a lot of posters failed to understand wasn't really important or impressive.

We actually never relinquished his rights and he's on our reserve list as a defected player. We technically still hold his NHL rights.

Technically, a defected player's rights expire at 27 (Nicklas Jensen for instance). Pashnin's rights are considered indefinite because he never came over.

Not that I care, but I got 'splained' over at the "Trade Rumors" board, that guys like Jensen (QO'd but not signed, playing elsewhere) are not actually 'defected players"

That that terminology may be outdated,
but also implied that it fits guys who left while a actually during term of a signed contract.
But they did not provide citatations, or examples that made it clear to me

(b) Group 4 Free Agents.
(i) Definition of "Defected Player." For purposes of this Agreement,
"Defected Player" means any Player not unconditionally released:

(A) who, having had an SPC with a Club, the provisions of which have
not been completely fulfilled, contracts for a period including any
part of the unfulfilled portion of his SPC, with a club in a league
not affiliated with the NHL or with any such league (both of which
are hereinafter referred to as an "unaffiliated club") or with any
other professional hockey club to the exclusion of the said Club or
its assignee; or

(B) who, never having been under contract to any Club, but as to who
the NHL negotiation rights now or at any time hereafter shall
reside in any Club, has contracted or shall contract with such an
unaffiliated club.

(C) A Player who plays out his final season and enters into a contract
for a period including the following season with an unaffiliated
club or with any other professional hockey club shall not be
deemed to be a "Defected Player"; provided, however, that nothing
contained in this Section shall be construed to affect the rights of
said Club to compensation, if applicable, pursuant to this Article
10 in the event that said Player should subsequently enter into an
SPC for his services as a professional hockey player with another
Club of the NHL.

He's a defected player, according to subsection B. He was never under contract to us but we hold his rights, and he signed with an "unaffiliated club" which would include KHL teams. He's a defected player. I think it's pretty clear. You don't have to sign and then leave to be defected. It's section 10.2 of the CBA.

"Defected status" applies to players who leave for a league without a transfer agreement. KHL and (I think) the Swiss league are the most notable leagues without a transfer agreement

I guess it's more a distinction I use. Because there is a reason between a player who never came over (Rights do not expire) and players who did sign a contract and then left (rights expire at age 27)

eh those guys were always long shots people just like to get excited at the idea of maybe they found a steal in a late round, it happens pretty much every year

To the shock of none, the Rangers didn't sign Bernhardt or Lakatos to ELC's. Are now no longer prospects of NYR....

Dope. We all know (and have spoken about this very subject here) that Daniel Bernhardt has been working the register at 7-11 across the street from the Garden 'waiting' for 'the call'.

He retired from hockey due to a heart condition earlier this year

Ok well now I just feel horrible.

We've got a bright future ahead, no more hinging basically all hope on later round picks. I had high hopes for all of those guys. There is positivity in moving forward here. We've got a ton to look forward too.

Nah, he is retired, heart problem.

I wonder how many knows that Daniel Bernhardt is a die hard ranger fan and actually has been posting on these boards for several years (he is @Machinehead). His brother is a good player too.
