Saw a good chunk of the Wisconsin/MSU tonight. Badgers won 3-1. Two very late goals to win. Miller played pretty well. Wisconsin's forward group this year is just mediocre offensively. Offensively they just seem disjointed. Especially against a team like MSU who played a great defensive game tonight. That, plus Miller seems to be playing more conservatively has resulted in far less point production this season. But it seems like Miller is playing a more sound game if that makes sense. He still flashes his offense at times. And he made some strong outlet passes, used his size pretty well. Ultimately kept it simple for the most part. Still a bit raw, but it's clear he has a pretty big impact when he's out there.

Just bring Allaire when you are meeting with him. Tell him this is the guy that's gonna make you a true pro and an NHL goalie.

I'd also bring pictures of Talbot, Raanta, Lundqvist, Georgiev, and even Valiquette and say he turned these guys, none top picks, into starters or good backups, and in Hank's respect, a future hall of famer.

If a picture of Valliquette doesn’t get it done, then nothing will.

So Miller is doing now what we've wanted Skjei to do for five years, focus on the neutral and defensive zones. Hah.

The comparison makes more sense than that. They are similar players in the sense that they both have great raw abilities -- skating/size. They have some similar deficiencies -- reading the play defensively (like when to switch their man etc). And neither have reached their potential. It will be interesting to see what the Rangers do with Miller next year. On the one hand, leaving him in college for another year will not hurt. Hopefully Wisconsin will be better. (we'll see).

On the other hand, having him play in Hartford where he can play more games and have Gord Murphy coach him may be a good move. That said, if Reunanen comes back over and is added to Hajek and Rykov on the left side in Hartford, there may be some playing time issues. (though, those issues will only be compounded the season after with Robertson and possibly Jones).

Seems like the Rangers will need to find Rykov some NHL games before the season is out. They need to start figuring out what they have in him at the NHL level.

I believe that as soon as Hartford clinches a playoff spot that both Rykov and Kravtsov will get a few NHL games in.

Even if the Rangers are in the race at the time, the long term should take precedence.

Obviously things can change with trades and nom-trades, but there is a chance that a top 9 spot is open after the TDL.

I think the bigger factor is what happens with the rangers at the deadline or if they have injuries...the issue with rykov at the moment is finding a spot in the lineup again (unless they decide to scratch staal again). kravtsov isn't going to be called up unless there is a top 9 spot for him (ignoring for a moment that there is zero indication that he is even remotely ready to be called up)

This one is for @nyr2k2 haha

Not impressed. Rangers didnt sign Virta for a reason. If this kid gets signed, I'll be surprised. If he wants to stay in Europe another wasted draft pick. Sign and draft players that want to play in the NHL and North America. Mesaken, Stromwall, Kovacs were all wasted contracts

Different Virta

Different Virta. Tony Virta is the father of Ranger draftee Patrick Virta (that did not get an ELC).

That's actually Patrik Virta's dad.

Meskanen and Stromwall weren't draft picks. Those were zero risk signings.

Also, that's Patrik Virta's dad. It was in 2000-20001.

He actually didn't want to stay in Europe--he was talking most of last season about coming over to North America. We just didn't offer him a contract.

But they rather give concerts to ECHL players like Ryan Gropp and Ty Ronning
