BTW I don't like the guy but in the last 2 seasons under Torts in 162 games (including playoffs) the Rangers gave up 5 goals or more in 5 games. That included a record streak of not allowing 5 goals or more to start a season of 69 games. So far this season in 42 games we've already given up 5 or more 7 times. If we are to exclude empty netters it would be 3 in 162 games under Torts and 5 times in 42 games this season. Awful.

Its not coincidence and can't be blamed on individual efforts. We are giving up way to much ice around our net. Ulf, AV, Benoit A and co must sit down and figure this out. We are moving around way to much around the net and constantly loosing people.

– I am not surprised, but disappointed. It was way to easy for them to create chances tonight, says Henrik Lundqvist.

Hank has not been good this season. But like last night, it wasn't players struggling to adjust to a new system or whatever. Its just odds. We are moving around way too much, and on a regular basis forwards gets open. And when they do, we have D's with the back towards the puck, 2-3 guys turning their heads around trying to just find the puck, etc etc etc.

This team has no toughness. They had some in McIlrath, banished him back to the minors and then he got hurt. When that clueless dope Sather realizes this team is awful at the deadline, and starts to fire sale people, he needs to get back some near NHL ready, tough, role players with offensive upside up front and a couple of hitters on the backend.

why is it always banish back to the AHL? players need time to develop. Especially defensive defensemen.

He's 21. he was never put in the Michael Del Zotto Toddler High Chair TM of "Oh, This guys got a great shot! lets try him on an NHL powerplay as a rookie!" Same with Conner Allen, who has at least looked OK.

in before Karlsson comments.

I know it's ridiculous, but it's strange that we've been rolling along alright winning a few games... And then Callahan comes back from injury... Happened twice now.

I know, correlation and not causation... Still seems strange.

The Rangers lead the NHL in team meetings. They had another players only meeting last night.

What a pathetic effort. Pittsburgh ran all over them.

End of story. The end.

Considering Callahan was at least kind of noticeable for a couple of hits while no other forward besides Zuke was, I don't think it's even worth mentioning.

Unless Callahan is telling the D to stop playing hockey so he can get Torts rehired.

How is it possible Girardi gets so much smack for being on the ice for one goal against (which was, well, kinda half his fault, because on the one hand he should have stopped that pass, but on the other hand he was covering two guys and Beaver was too lazy to get back) and the Stralman/Staal pairing are getting so little?

Both Staal and Stralman have taken their lumps on this thread. Stralman was criticized for his limitations and Staal for being a shell of the player he used to be. The issue with Girardi remains that, if he and the Rangers cannot reach an agreement on a deal, then the prudent thing to do is maximize his value by dealing him, and not get caught up in rose-colored playoff hopes.

If it's anything, it's a case of disrupting developing chemistry on the forward lines. I don't really think that's the case, just one of those things you notice.

The defensive failures on some how of theese goals was unbelivable. Trolliot did not impress me this game defensively. And Boyle, granted I am not his biggest fan, had a horrible game. What a waste he is. The fact that Miller gets scratched over him is unfair.

I am also jumping on the trade wagon. But I am keeping Hank. He should not take the blame for this patethic defence this team has.

After reading threads like this again and again, let me see if I get this right. Every time the your team loses its because of the referees and/or because they did not try hard enough or possibly because the coach is bad. It is never because the other team has better players. OK, I get it.

Minutes from the players meeting:

"Hey look we lost but the Penguins are GOOD!"

"Yeah, it's not like we lost to a crap team!"

"Hear, hear" (much agreement)

"Ok, so it wasn't so bad. We came back a little bit right?"

"Scored 2 goals !"

"Yeah! 2!"

"Ok so where are we going to party tonight?"

"Let's take a vote"

Again and again, you have been here three months...

I call it like I see it, can do nothing else.

We gave up 5 goals. Could have gave up a lot more. We are constantly giving up 3+ goals. You can most certainly discuss several parts of this team, but I don't think you can blame 3+ goals on the roster.

We are not playing good defense. The structure is not there. We just gotta fix that. Revert to more of a zone approch or just figure stuff out that is beyond me. We can't run around as much as we do. Doesn't matter if Staal is on the ice or Allen.

Imagine if torts could get Zuc and Kreids to play like they are now?

He could have if he had trusted them and let them play their game. Zucc put up a lot of points under Torts too, which is just amazing and shows what type of player he is. The way Zucc plays now he never did with Tortorella. Was just too afraid of making mistakes. Now he plays his game because AV lets him, and if he makes mistakes, he doesnt bench him or publicly herass him.

A couple examples.
In Zuccs first game after being scratched, against Detroit, he makes a bad mistake that leads to a Detroit goal. Av lets him play on, and he eventually scores the tie goal and sends it to OT, where Rangers win it.

In one of the games against Florida where Rangers were up 3-0, he makes a horrible turnover and Florida scores and 1-3, and gets momentum and scores another one and gets 2-3. Zucc still plays, and scores the 4th goal and secures the game.

Both of these incidents under Tortorella would have but him on the bench for the rest of the game.

Tortorella might be an ok hockey coach, but he is a terrible leader and he treats people extremely poorly.

Even if the team sucks Hank is paid to bail them out on some goals. He was out of position on 2-3 goals today and without those goals against the team could've gotten points.

Delusional or agenda? That was like a father-son game.

What kind of game might it have been Nash a healthy scratch instead of Miller. Let’s see. Nash commits another lazy first period hook that not only leads to a goal, but Dorsett ends up getting hurt. Against the Caps, he did the same thing. Same result, a goal against. Then he decides it’s too much work to cover an open man in front of the net. We’re down 2 zip. You know, his first interview in the shortened season last year set an alarm. He said you have to know when to ease up with so many games being played close together. When is he not easing up. He owes Dorsett an apology. He owes the fans and the team an apology.

Yes.

The absence of Miller stole two points from the Rangers.

You gotta be kidding if you really believe that Tortorella is the answer. I mean no disrespect, but that is nuts.

Torts is not the answer to winning it all but the difference in effort from last year to this year is monumental.

When Cindy Crosby is the tougher than any guy you have on the ice, you know your team is softer than my dogs stool

Tired of watching Nash skating around pylons, if you're afraid of getting hit, try another profession...he wasn't alone obviously but Strals was horrible last night...

This is correct.

And, as it was beginning, so shall it ever be again: the Rangers need to play a simple defensive system and they need jam.

I suspect that a more conservative defensive approach will significantly help Lundqvist.

You could tell the outcome of the game after 5 minutes.

Can't win when you chase the puck the whole game, also its becoming a staple of this team of playing like total garbage the 1st 10 minutes of every game...
