To me it's the leadership on this team ... They needed torts to get them going by yelling and now it's turned I to a country club, we have an opportunity to change the leader ship on this team.

Develop from within and try to keep the core intact like how we did before sather made TWO trades that totally ruined a Stanley cup contender team to a bubble playoff team in one season

With Dorsett gone, now we have zero toughness, Haley or Beach up for Leafs game...

I see Lundqvist and Staal were just absolutely brilliant again last night.

This game wasn't even close to being Hanks fault. He looks like he's basically back to his old self. His timing and movements are back to normal and his confidence seems to be there.

Tonight might has well been a bad loss in the 11-12 season if just looking at Hank. Hank wasn't the problem. Pitt out worked us and got a few lucky bounces, our defensive system is **** and the team D was absolute ****.

Not happy with this man to man in the D zone at all. When they hired AV and I found out he was going to change the D system I didn't like it. Why change the strength of the team? Now we go from a top 5 d team to ****. And that's not all on Hank. He's has his hand in it but it's not all on him.

I've been saying this for a while. Hank has always been a slow starter the past few seasons. However with a solid d system in place it made up for his mistakes and gave him time to put it together and get going. Not ideal but that's how it went. Plus Torts always has the utmost confidence in Hank and that was well known. Know AV comes in and changes the D system completely to something that not only isn't working but doesn't suit our personnel AT ALL, and then he yo-yos Hank around which leads to his spiraling down the ******* confidence. Im sorry but the only way this team is going to win anything is if Hank gets back to normal and saves the bacon every night because this system is ****. So he needs to know he has the coaches confidence and AV needs to ride Hank until he works into his groove.

Honestly, if they could've kept everything about Torts' system in place, but just done the work overhauling the powerplay it would've been pretty perfect.

If Torts were still here his BFF would still be coaching the PP. There was really no way to have both.

Seems like you didn't watch the game, which makes your post more unbearable than usual, if that's even possible

The 4th goal was a backhander from way out and the 5th goal was sitting in front of him waiting to be covered and he had no clue where it was. But lets continue blaming everything but Hank for his continued disappointments.

Nah it's way more cool scapegoating individual players than examining the deep rooted defensive problems this entire team has And yes, that includes Lundqvist

The Rangers lead the NHL in team meetings. They had another players only meeting last night.

What a pathetic effort. Pittsburgh ran all over them.

End of story. The end.
At the least they lead in someone thing.

We can't even lead in times shut out. :(

When Cindy Crosby is the tougher than any guy you have on the ice, you know your team is softer than my dogs stool

What a silly statement. You may hate Crosby because he is not a Ranger but he is as tough as they come.

Core? What core? Three or four players is far short of a core.

This is correct.

And, as it was beginning, so shall it ever be again: the Rangers need to play a simple defensive system and they need jam.

I suspect that a more conservative defensive approach will significantly help Lundqvist.

Yeah, but we shouldn't mix up how we play with the puck with how we play without it.

It's not counter attacks that are killing us. It's not giveaways.

It's when we are pressured that we collapse. We are all over the place. Moving around way too much. It's a mess.

I definitely see no reason to go back to the throw the puck away style. No other team that are impressing are playing that way. But how we defend can definitely be questioned.

It's magic, dump Cally and G and we will have a whole new team and a fresh start.

If we dealt them, 90% of the people willing to give them away for crap would change their mind after seeing the "new" team play for one period. Right or wrong...

Goalies will always tell you that backhanders are the toughest to stop. And let's be real. That Crosby backhander was better than any shot this team has taken this season.

And blaming Hank for a net front scrum when the rangers once again failed to clear the crease is just

Id rather watch new players than invest 14 years and 70m+ in two good, but not great, players like Callahan and girardi.

How is 5 goals even close to looking like his old self? When Hank was good this team never gave up 5 goals.

It's not all about how many goals you give up. Especially when trying to analyze a goalie who's struggled all season. I look for his movements to be smooth, his angles to be on, his reaction time to be solid and most of all, that he has confidence in himself and he executes every movement with confidence. I'm a goalie so I don't judge a goalies performance based on how many goals they give up. The box score has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

There is a noticeable difference in his play the past 3 games. Even games he won earlier in the season he didn't look like his old self. Last night he did. I'm not talkin results in talking mechanics and technique. He wasn't fighting it. He looked confident in his movement and every move he made had a purpose and was smooth and powerful. These are the things in talking about.

And if you really want to get into each goal we can. The first was a lucky bounce off of Crosby to a wise open Kunitz in the crease. Bad bounce. The second was a terrible okay by Staal and an unreal shot by jokinen. What else can hank do there? 99 times out of a hundred that shot hits Hank or misses he net. That was just a ridiculously lucky snipe. Third goal was a broken play odd man rush that was going wide but hit McD and and went in bad bounce again. The four home was the weakest of them all mainly becaus Hank was clearly leaning pass. But does that excuse the absolutely atrocious giveaway in the d zone? Plus it was Crosby with a ridiculous backhand snipe. That's the only goal I think was weak. And still it's Crosby on a wide open all the time in the world back hand. Last goal was a few saves and a scrum and everyone standing around not picking a man up. Staal goes down and puck goes off him across the crease to a wide open Kunitz.

And to address your point when Hank was good they never gave up 5 goals. However when the team was playing solid they never has such awful giveaways and gave up so many quality chances.

Earlier in the season it was Hank giving up some weak goals. Last night? No way. That was a piss poor defensive effort.

This and this.

Backhanders are hard to judge (I'm a goalie) not to mention Crosby had all day, directly in the slot and he has the best back handed in the league. Only reason I think it was the weakest goal was Hank was leaning way toward expecting a pass.

The backhander i can live with. Hank completely lost the puck on the 5th goal. That was nobody's fault but his.

Even if the team is awful, which they were last night, for the contract we've given him shouldn't he keep us on a game once in awhile.
