Yeah, but... as a full-time lurker and occasional poster on the BoH section, there is soooo much bad information being kicked around in this thread! Och, you're right. I'll leave it alone.

I've mentioned Blashill a couple of times as a possibility. He's pretty green though.
 
If it's not going to be Vigneault I'd like to see Hakstol. If Eakins is what some of you wanted Hakstol is him and then some. Very gritty system and a pro-like mindset & approach.

We were 1 point behind Washington with a roster that was mis-matched for most of the season. The team heated up after the deadline when the team actually had decent depth throughout the lineup.

I don't care about the past wrt to NJ and Philly. I think Philly is going to challenge for a playoff spot, but their roster is suspect. NJ is just not a well built team, and Marty is like 41 now. He was declining last year, it'll be worse this year. I honestly think they're going to finish with a top-5 pick next year (oh wait...no, they won't :)).

Either way, the Rangers should be expected to make the playoffs at this point. What I'm worried about is their ability to win it once they get there.

seriously, what the hell were they thinking when they proposed this? Initially I thought it was nice since the Southeast division (or whatever it would become) wouldn't suck in the standings every year...

But every team has been *****ing about travelling and scheduling... This just complicates it
 
All about time zones. Florida games fit well with Eastern time zone games. Look at the AL East and NL East.

Washington is good because they get to play Carolina, Florida and Atlanta/Winnipeg so often. The only real threat in that division is Tampa, but they cannot even string together 2 good seasons, let alone causing problems in the long run for WSH.

Well, it ain't going to happen, because the franchise in quesion doesn't feel like its part of the east and has made it very clear to the NHL that they have no interest in changing conferences. Part of it is geography--Nashville is in western part of the state and that means that all of their away games would start at 6pm if they were in the east conference. Nashville is not part of the south-east.

The biggest issue with Tippett is it's very dangerous to wait. The NHL owns Phoenix, they've made it very clear that they want a stable franchise, while they find a buyer for the team. Tippett done very well there and evidently likes the area a lot.

What happens if he never becomes available? Vigneault won't wait too long either--Dallas is interested in him too. The organization has to make decision soon--unless they already have and are going through the motions.

Tampa is an awful hockey team. They have a good top-6 (Stamkos, Lecavalier, St. Louis, Purcell, and Killorn headed into next season), but otherwise, their bottom-6 is awful, their defense is arguably the worst in the league, and they have two 1B goaltenders (although I am fairly high on Bishop). They're not a threat to any team at the moment, IMO.
 
The former Vancouver coach is believed to have made a favorable impression on Sather, though an offer to replace John Tortorella does not seem imminent. That could change, however, if the Stars make a time-sensitive offer to Vigneault, who has previously interviewed with Dallas GM (and former colleague) Jim Nill.

The Blueshirts do not appear to be in any rush to speak with former Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff before their meetings conclude tomorrow. Potential candidate Dan Bylsma was removed from the list of hypotheticals when the Penguins announced yesterday they had extended his contract through 2015-16.

That would appear to leave Dave Tippett, the Phoenix coach whose contract runs through June 30 and who has said his preference is to re-up with the Coyotes if their ownership situation is settled, as the only other experienced candidate, and he too is only a hypothetical.

Then, there is Messier, whose experience and success on the ice and his stature within Rangers’ and NHL lore constitute his resume.

Sources from the Boston area where Brian Leetch makes his home told The Post the Hall of Fame defenseman would likely join the Rangers’ coaching staff as an assistant if Messier is hired.

The Blueshirts would need to hire a technocrat with meaningful NHL coaching experience to complement Messier and Leetch should Sather opt to go in that direction, one that would seem a far riskier one than hiring Vigneault.

The Rangers were impressed with Vigneault as they should be.

Where are the Coyotes moving to? Seattle is the popular destination.Where? The Key Arena no longer has ice making machines. The Tacoma Dome? Where is the long term building in Seattle? The new building in Seattle was based on the group in Seattle buying the Kings and moving them to Seattle. The hockey team would be the 2nd tenant with another owner owning the hockey team. That did not happen. The NBA will probably give Seattle an expansion team but that's down the road. Bettman and Daly are funny. The last time they were speaking together was December 8 at the Westin in Times Square. We will die on the hill over 5 year contract limits. Really? The players have to accept our offer as is with zero negotiation. They were making the same threats last night to Glendale.

Ruff was in VAN interviewing for the Canucks job. Its not that far for Ruff to travel to California from Vancouver. That doesn't seem to be in the plans.

Messier and Leetch? Are they playing?

Agree on the Ranger&NJD part. Flyers are more difficult to predict, need to wait until we know what their troop is gonna look like. Will they trade picks/assets/forwards to improve their goalie/defence situation?

Was just looking in the draft thread and somebody mentioned the 2003 draft, and it hit me that right now, this is the exact situation. Making the wrong decisions in that draft cost us big time, years. We make the wrong decision now and we'll regret it for awhile, just like Jessiman.
 
Messier and Leetch. Ugh. So much for going with experienced assistants. At this point, I literally don't care who the coach is so long as its not Messier.

I think you can persume that someone cares first and foremost about money. I mean, I've yet to come across one single player in this league who would sign for 2m one place if he could make 6m somewhere else.

Why would Tippet turn down a substansial amount of money from us?

I can of course not rule out that Tippet would take 1m per in PHX over 7m in NY. But I gotta say that the odds for that must be extremely small babs.

First of all, this is -- all -- Tippet has said:

“It’s a bit like a player in the last year of his contract,” Tippett said. “There’s times you’d probably like to sign, but you’re not sure if you’re going to sign. That’s kind of where it is right now.”

Tippett hasn’t decided whether he’d take a one-year contract if it becomes clear the Coyotes will last in Glendale for at least that time. And yet, the Coyotes are his top choice.

“I haven’t thought about moving yet,” he said. “… If Phoenix offers me a contract and it looks like we’re going to keep moving in the right direction, then I’ll look at it.”

This is not Doan signing a 4 year +35 contract for 5.3m per (basically not leaving any money on the table in the end) to stay his last years in the league in PHX after having made a ton of money. He is saying that he will -- look -- at a offer from PHX, if, they are going in the right direction. If. He would quote "look" on it. Tipped hasn't made a ton of money like Doan. We have a better team and future than PHX. We are original 6, PHX is original 30.

I am not even saying that we should get Tippet (I think its a tad hard to figure out what Tippet/Ruff/AV would do in NY). He seems like a decent candidate. But I would be damned if we couldn't snatch him from PHX it we really wants him. That would be just ridiculous. If it comes to it, why just not offer him 10m per? Seriously.
