yeah I agree. Gotta make a decision sooner rather than later for the reason you just mentioned.
Personally, I like the Messier option because he knows the organization, city, team, players, prospects, etc. He probably has gone over what he'd do if he was the coach of this team. Yeah, he is an inexperienced coach, but that may be best for him and then he will surround him with good assistant coaches. The front office has a lot of NHL experienced staff and some former NHL coaches. If they feel Messier can coach in the NHL right now with this team, then so be it and i'll enjoy it like I enjoy every Rangers season. Also, this could be why Mike Sullivan has not been let go yet...
I am also interested in Tippett for obvious reasons, but Boucher is an interesting option as well. Who knows how either would do in New York City and what player changes they would want to bring in their own guys.
I don't make the decisions for the Rangers, so I just sit back and watch and enjoy the hockey news.
They make the wrong decision here and it's gonna be a long hard couple of years ahead. One of the biggest decisions/crossroads in franchise history.

I would love to see what these meetings on the west coast are all about. Gorton and a few yes-men following Sather around, making suggestions for a coach, only to be interrupted by Sather lighting up a stogie, or discharging a firearm.

Watch the Bruins and you'll notice right away why their first line of Lucic-Krejci-Horton succeeds. Effortless, no-look, one-touch passes. Each one of them knows where the other two are without looking, withing thinking, without stopping. That comes from playing together constantly. It's something we would never ever accomplish with Juggarella putting the lines in a blender every night.
I really, really hope that whoever our new coach is, one of his goals is to establish actual lines.

What he did as a player and what he could do as a coach are different. The banner represents his play in NY as a player, not everything he'll ever do. Camon man, extremes here.

Not saying you are wrong, but the football team I support has a similar thing going on (champion player and premiership captain taking over as coach with no experience) and despite only being an average coach it doesn't seem to have reduced his standing as a player
This next coach represents a gigantic turning point for our organization. The Fate of Henrik Lundqvist hangs in the balance here. If it's a disaster, it will be a turn down a long dark road for this organization. People aren't going to forget that easily. I know I won't.

Next season is going to be very interesting. If the young guys continue to develop, Staal can get close to 100%, and a few of the up and coming young guys like Kreider and Fast can add 35-40 goals combined, it's going to be successful.
If not, then it could get ugly.
Remember, they're most likely gonna start the year without Cally and/or Hagelin or neither close to 100%. Ditto for Strahlman. Ditto for Staal.
AND the big kicker that nobody mentions is with the awful realignment, if you slump at all and don't finish in the top 3 of your uber division, you're not fighting 4-15 for five playoff spots, you're now fighting with 6-16 for TWO playoff spots.
A 5th place team could have more points than the 2nd, 3rd, 4th place team in the other division and not make the playoffs.

Strålman was close to coming back into the lineup--there were several reports that he was going to try and play if there was a game 6. With Staal ya never know and it's going to hard without the speed and grit that Hagelin and Cally bring. Fortunately, it's a long season.

Yep, the next coach NEEDS to be a home run. Experience. A Guy who is going to get the most out of his best players and has a history of doing so. Not someone to whom being a coach at a high professional level is a new experience.

Realignment is a dumb idea and it's going to alter franchises destinies for the next decade.
It's going to be real fun explaining to a fanbase "hey we had more points than teams W,X,Y,Z in the other Eastern or Western Division yet we didn't make the playoffs".
Then when teams play each other every year and certain teams can't beat certain other teams (see Winnipeg and Hartford in the 80s) it's going to demoralize fanbases. "So what, we made the playoffs for the fifth year in a row to get spanked by the #1 seed?""
Strahlman has a separated shoulder and facial injuries. 6-8 weeks minimum. He's going to be behind the curve training wise. Short offseason.
If he looks off in training camp or preseason, please come back to this post and don't tar and feather the guy.

Pretty much. The whole thing is about kissing Detroit's feet.
But honestly what really bothers me is that there was absolutely no reason to give divisions that much influence. I understand the reason behind the geography of it, because the Western Conference takes up 75% of North America in terms of mass while the East is only the Eastern most quarter. That's fine. But what does that have to do with the playoffs? Why couldn't they make new divisions and conferences just for travel/scheduling and keep the playoffs top 8?
