All of the complaints I've seen about last season, besides the inept powerplay, are just not very rooted in reality. Lets see....
It was a 48 game season, no training camp, a major roster turnover in the summer and another one before the trade deadline. I dont think you'll find any coach willing to overhaul the system of play under those types of conditions.
Oh please, not the 'no camp' excuse. Chicago had no camp, were they complaining? If the Rangers weren't ready, that's more an indictment on the coaching staff for not getting them ready before each game. And really, after the first month of the season, that excuse needed to go away.
This is quite possibly the most outlandish complaint of all given the personnel. Dorsett - Boyle - Pyatt were the 3rd line in the playoffs. Do I need to get into the horrors that were on the 4th? Why complain about running all the horses, when you simply dont have enough?
Really? It's outlandish? No it isn't. There is a bench full of players. I don't care what YOU think of them, the fact is if they're on the bench, they need to play. A good coach will figure out how to use them to be successful. Again, not maximizing individual player strengths. When the opposition is using their full bench, you do NOT shorten yours and expect to win games. Not how it works. It's outlandish to think you can. That's what's outlandish.
I agree here, but personally, instead of more upheaval, I wouldve preferred another coach added to the staff for this
No one is suggesting upheaval. The bottom six needs a little more skill and speed and anywhere else they can improve the roster they should. There is no one set way to reach a Cup Final and win. The Blackhawks are in the Finals, not with the same roster they had 3 years ago. The Bruins are in the Finals, with mostly the same roster from 2 years ago.
Its my opinion that its not a championship roster, no matter who the coach is. Tortorella is 1 of 2 coaches to bring his team past the 1st round of the playoffs the past 2 seasons. His firing wasn't results based. If you think the roster is better than how far its gone the past 2 seasons, you are delusional.
Because YOU say it isn't makes it so? Ok. You have no idea how next season is going to play out. You don't know who will be subtracted or added to the roster. We don't know who the coaching staff will be or what their philosophy will be. Yet, I'm the delusional one? Ok. And besides the point, i never said they were a Championship caliber team. What i said is, had this staff done their job correctly and the players played to their potential, they could have been a home ice team.
Regarding the rest of your post, what indication has this organization given you to suggest theres any sort of master plan in place???
I read.
Gorton, especially is candid about the direction and philosophy several times per year.
You think because they essentially swapped Nash and Gaborik that changed anything? They recouped the depth lost in the Nash trade. Gaborik's contract was going to be expiring, he is an injury risk, and more often then not he refuses to show up shift-to-shift. Nash didn't score in the playoffs, but he was moving his feet. Same can't be said for Gaborik most nights. Still he needed to be better.
The infusion of young/cheap talent will continue to happen. As it has year-to-year.
Staal needs to be healthy.
Things turned around when Gorton joined the organization in 2007. The entire philosophy changed as he started to get his hands more on the club and his position within the club has risen.
Sather is a problem. Its the old boys club. When he finally steps away and Gorton takes over, there will be more hockey decisions made, and less publicity stunts. I believe Gorton is the one who is really behind most of the positive decisions made within the club.
