For all the people hating on Hunt tonight, please explain why. He had an outstanding game. Made plays defensively, was a beast on the forecheck, made multiple quality passes that lead to chances.
I think it's cause he had a good chance at the net and missed by 20 feet. But I don't really mind that on line 3-4. When he was with Panarin, that was infuriating.

he was there because Strome is lazier than a Slaking and Panarin can't beat 4 defenders by himself. who else should've been there?

I mean I'm kind of annoyed he passed it into the skates of a tampa player about 2 seconds before he made the pass to Zibanejad

He's trying to force a lot of passes
It’s tougher than ever to connect on cross ice passes these days. I’d guess Panarin’s success rate on those is about as high as anyone in the league. I definitely want to see a bit more diversity from Panarin’s attack. But it’s nit-picking. I think he’s doing the best he can considering he’s playing with a guy who’s allergic to the front of the net and a guy he’s played with for six periods.

A lot to take away from this game:
-super suffocating. Had stretches where they played wild, particularly bolts dominated the first. After that, we had the second period locked down and the 3rd was great initially but tampa has that lock down experience. They will literally just be on you the second you touch the puck. Thank god we are not playing against them in the first round. If they play florida, it would be a crazy series again.
-mika line shut down, but its okay, keep them together. Id love laf to get a chance at lw, but he has to keep learning to play rw. This kid will be good. He is already a puckhound and was super active. Next step is to become faster, stronger, and create more plays.
-panarin is who panarin is. His game is elite passing and I think vatrano is good on that line. Panarin's shooting percentage is low this season. I am not worried. Goals can go multiple ways every season. Maybe they come in playoffs.
-strome is getting bland for me. His play has kind of stagnated. Every couple games, he will play well and get some points, then he goes and kind of just stops. He is not a 16 game player imo. Id rather have brock nelson tbh but thats a different conversation.
-Miller is wow. The embodiment of wow. For example, he can make some bad reads that rookies and sophomores make, then shows you that freaking tank like body wreak havoc. I mean come on! If a goal is on him, he goes and gets a point or plays well enough that it contributes to one. As he matures, the defensive play will become more consistent and if he can keep developing his offense, then maybe we have a hedman/chara season. At the very least, he could become shea weber if he works on that devastating shot of his.
-trouba continues to prove a lot of people last year wrong. The guy is at half a point per game pace and is on track to maybe reach the 40 mark. This is with limited pp time and he will 100% be a force in the playoffs.
- i dont know how far we go, but beating pittsburgh is not impossible. Carolina might be and florida/tampa would be very tough as well. I imagine avs will be on the other side. I just think its very difficult to beat igor 4 times as he is always in position. Give credit to the d too, they help a lot.
-igor deserves more and more praise. Fatigue got to him last couple games and he seemed human for the first time, but the level of consistency is amazing. Get the man the hart cause he has the heart of nyc already locked up.

That chart seems accurate sans Panarin & Strome. The eye test tells me they were not that good.
The chart weights even strength pretty heavily. Most of the horrible shit Panarin and Strome did was on the powerplay.

Panarin in a rare showing and Strome par for the course.

Panarin also scored a point which is a game score factor.

I have a personal problem with Hunt haters

he's the hardest working F on the team, a great forechecker, physical, defensively sound, and (somehow lol) has 15 points this year. what is your deal with him? he's exactly what we wanted in a player like him.

The fact that our roster has holes and he shouldn't be playing on the second line is all there is to complain about him. He's great for his role currently.

Chytl? Again, i'm not mad at Hunt. I was trying to answer the question why others were probably complaining. Again, not in the top 6, that's fine.

The boys.

Remember when Panarin was killed by Wilson and Henrik was bulldozed by Eakin and AV and Quinn's teams did nothing about it? That bump from Maroon was because Lindgren stick got in his face but Lindgren still went after a much bigger player in Reaves' weight class. For all the faults this team has, it's got some heart.

Tbf I recall having like seven fights after the Panarin thing

I understand we haven't been the best 5v5 team this year, but we are getting better as we go along. Some of you guys got to temper your expectations for how a young, up and coming team is going to play against the better teams in the league. Do you really think we are going to go into the defending Stanley Cup Champs (2 time, back to back) own barn and run them out of the building? That's f***ing crazy. We are the New York Rangers. Every team is ready for us. This is about as good as it will get until the team gets more experience, chemistry and depth.

Also, I gotta say, I like Vatrano. Find out what kinda contract he is looking at, maybe it's cheap.

Everyone likes him on the fourth line. Everyone dislikes him in the top six. It’s that simple.

Thank you for your common sense post instead of the usual nonsense we have to read.
