Honestly, the only thing we need is a 2nd line wing and maybe a 3rd liner (proven). Otherwise, i love this team. I also like how fast gallant noped to pairing hajek with fox again. Good on him. I feel like hajek is just being showcased for a deal.

That’s what I thought. Would like to see them do it even once though.
They're supposed to do it every time. When a defender prevents an opposing player from making a play on the puck on the opposite side of the redline the icing is supposed to be waived off. The linesmen just miss it far too often.

I wish they’d default to letting them play on and only call icing when they feel the defense is…well…icing the puck. They’re way too whistle happy. Focus on getting the offsides right.

They absolutely can wave that off if they deem it was playable by the defender. Probably a missed called if they called the icing still.
Haven’t seen one waved off in a long time. Seems to me a lot of the players ( even if they could have played it ) just let it go
In the old days it was waved off more often

Feels good to win a white knuckler like that against the 2 time defending champs. They improved as the game went on and despite the fact that they were helped by some boneheaded plays by Elliott, they were the better team after period 1. The refs seemed to screw them over right before TB’s tying goal, and Panarin was thisclose to winning it in regulation. Goodrow is always going to get crap from fans because of his contract, but he’s such a valuable player in big games like this.

Happy New Year folks, and see you Sunday

Jesus Christ. Stop complaining. This is supposed to be a year for growth and maybe sneak into the playoffs. They are miles past were they were at this point last year. Just sit back and enjoy
Yes. Really. This is always the right attitude. It’s not life or death. It’s entertainment. Would always prefer to win but either way, it’s not a zero sum game. Not to mention that the team is getting better right before our eyes. They play defense like a team for the first time in years and I think the offense will come around.

. Our fan base complains quite a bit. If we win it’s because the other team is weak or missing their top guys. If we lose we suck apparently lol

Losing a shootout to Brian Elliot would’ve sucked so thank god they pulled it out.

So do the Rangers get credit for beating Tampa or does it not count bc it was a shootout? Or do they only count when we lose a shootout to a playoff team? Just trying to prepare for the arguments that will be incoming.

It's usually the same 3 or 4 people.

They more than deserved to lose to the Panthers and not sure how anyone could argue against that since they actually lost and blew having a lead in the third period, and the only they won tonight is because Elliot gave them the game. This is a mediocre team at best and a shootout win against a tired team playing a low tier backup goalie doesn’t change that. But whatever helps you sleep at night.

Happy new year everyone

Rangers lose. They suck.

Rangers win. The other team sucks.

I thought Miller had a helluva game. He was my Number 1 player of the game.

It’s been said many times, and I’ll say it again, Drury has to go get another RW.

There’s one in Russia he should start with.

It’s time Drury becomes proactive and adds a d man + center …
Or else he’s jeopardizing the 30 game progress .
That's the hard part for him . Do you make that move or just wait and watch and hope they get better with time . It is assumed by most of us that our prospects also likely will be better with time as well . Another season with gained experience by Laf-KK-Miller-Lundkvist-Hajek will indeed make a difference . What won't help long term is an extended deal for Strome ....we have too many extended guys now . I think we should give Lafreniere and Kakko more PP time as well . I think they need that offensive shot of confidence playing with Mika and Panarin & Fox for their growth . I'd love to see additions at C + wing and on the Left D....but only if it is at low cost and does not rob some kids of ice time .

As an old timer....I want them winning now....but I also know what likely is best for us as a team. It's hard being a Ranger fan right now. We likely will see soon enough what the ownership is going to want or if he will wait it out . Happy New Year Ranger friends.

I figured it might be him. He's jumped the shark. At this point he's trolling. They lose he bitches about the team, they win he bitches about the team. There's literally nothing the team does that makes him not bitch about the team. How is he not trolling?

Complaining about the team isn’t trolling, nor is it cause you don’t like what he has to say.

You can tell which posters on here were fans through the dark ages and which weren't just by the tendency of some to complain after wins that apparently weren't decisive enough. We now have fans where the majority of their fanhood experience was spent with the Rangers perennially making the playoffs as opposed to perennially not. The team is 20-8-4. Enjoy it now because a decade of true Rangers underachievement is always just around the corner.

Definitely being showcased for a deal. Logically makes all the sense in the world. Except that the only trade since the season started is the Eichel trade and he's our 7th defenseman and 1 of the other 6 is in protocol. Other than that...

As I mentioned in the "Let's Remember Some Guys" thread, there is little that is more exciting or more satisfying than emerging as a good team after years of being "bad." It cited some parallels to the 1966-1967 that made the playoffs for the first time in years and for the first time since I had become a fan. That too was after a deliberate attempt to become more difficult to play against (although we were still a finesse team).

How can anyone complain about what is happening? We are 20-8-4! In the best case scenarios we all drew up in our heads before the season began, did any of us even think that we would have such a record?

Are we perfect? Far from it. Are we yet elite? No. Is there room for improvement? Certainly. But we just went into Tampa and beat the 2X Cup winners on New Year's Eve in their own building! After that hard loss against the Panthers I was concerned that it would spiral into the beginning of a losing streak. But it didn't, we took advantage of some errors, and won!

I don't know what the next few months will bring, there will certainly be some down times. But we are an emerging team, and up and coming team, a team that may be setting themselves up for a long run of success.

I don't know about you, but this Ranger fan with memories going back to 1958 is enjoying it. And so should you.

Its so blatantly obvious.

What is more amazing is those same fans quickly forget, or choose to ignore, that this franchise has won 1 cup in the last 82 years. And yet even though this team isn’t last in the league, they complain after wins as if they lost the game

agreed that was a heck of a hockey game. Two teams with a lot of talent going at it.

these are the games you’re paying Goodrow for. Not a dec game against AZ. He steps up. Just does.

Hunt is a far more effective player on the fourth line and IMO lafreniere needs a couple guys that can bury some chances. He rarely misses when he’s got the opportunity but he gets pucks to Chytil and Gauthier and they flub.

we need one more top 9 guy

and I’d call seattle about Giordano again.

I’d be all in here. Never going to have this cap space again and early or not you have Panarin Mika Strome trouba kreider Shesterkin all in their prime you take shots. A single championship can last a fan base a long time.

Well said. If you complain whether your team loses or wins you just come off as an insufferable Debbie downer.

I don't care who your opponents are and how bad you play, wins don't come easy in the NHL. Any team can beat you any night. We've seen this team lose against terrible teams in years past and not show up against the top teams in the league at all. Here, we're seeing some consistency where they are beating all teams lower than them in the standings and also sneaking out some wins against top teams too.

It's an improvement. And the team is still young. Every game is a new chapter and there's no one way to win.

The fact that the Rangers can win games in different ways is the mark of a good team. And I say that despite their shortcomings on RW, a lack of a permanent 2C, and their bad 3rd pairing on D. This game with the cap is about overcoming the holes in your roster - every team has them.

For sure. Doesn’t matter if they are “ready” or not, but with top 6 F and a top 4 D added as rentals, the Rangers core can matchup with anyone in a 7 game series

It's not complaining if you want to see the team do better, even if they walk away with two points on the night.

Just getting the two points isn't enough in most cases.
