Every fan base feels this way.

eh...in a sense you're not wrong, i mean goal wise we're up there in the league overall. the dichotomy with the rangers is they volume of chances they squander. i watch a fair amount of hockey around the league and we're in an elite class in terms of lacking finishing ability. florida and carolina can see the same issues...the thing with car though is they don't waste chances. they fire pucks and create scrambles whereas we constantly need to find any possible pass. we just also don't have many high end shots, esp snapshots. couple guys can bomb one timers but panarin really is the only one who can snap one by a goalie clean from the slot, or at least shown the ability to. and around the net we've had some tough luck but also just don't have guys that find loose pucks in traffic and bury them. at some point between posts and being robbed its not just luck but a lack of either ability or attitude

So if we are up there in goal scoring and still not scoring enough in terms of our chances then uhhh why are we firing our coach again?

Yeah, the complete inability to finish chances is baffling. Sure, tonight was Vasilevskiy and he was great, but it seems to happen every game no matter who the other goalie is.

Made all the more frustrating tonight by the fact that Tampa's goal was a bullshit fanned shot that went directly to Igor but took an unlucky bounce.
exactly, vasilevksy was otherworldly and that happens. but i dont doubt we coulda make brian elliott look elite tonight too. it'd be fine calling tonight a one off because of vasi if we didn't also make nobodies look like hasek in their prime so frequently.

my worst nightmare is a team starting an ebug against the rangers

i'm not at all calling for firing gallant. i do think he needs to start getting a message through on overpassing.

the other issues are ability/confidence based. coaches can influence that but ultimately players need to get it done.

They scored 5+ goals in 3 of the last 4 before the break. The last 2 games they have missed a ton of opportunities and have shot wide an incredible amount.

This team cannot finish. It’s a problem. It’s not just tonight because it was Vasilevskiy. They just cannot finish. Posts, missing the net, shooting into the goalie on their glorious chances. Breakaways where the players seem like they’re not even trying to score.

It’s half a season now of the only consistent thing about their team being that they continually do not score on multiple should be goals every game.
My sense is that they're just not digging down low. They do a good job cycling and generating shots but no one's digging for rebounds at the end. Not enough greasy goals. I saw kreider fighting in front of the net once today and it stuck out, since it's such a rarity. It's a shame because they can actually do the skilled work but generally avoid the grunt work needed at the end. I'd wager the rangers are at the bottom of goals scored from in close on rebounds.

This is too good. On tonights Sick Pod with Marinaro the guest is this Montrealer who was an assistant coach in the KHL. They are talking about the Habs PP struggles (dead last) and here is a little snippet...

"The first line, you have Suzuki...he can shoot and he can pass...that's fine but you know he's only got two tools in his tool box. He's gonna come down ready to release and if not he's gonna look for the seam pass to Caufield for the one timer. But this is it. There is no goal line option, the bumper is useless and the guy up top (Dach), I love the kid but he's not a QB. So it's easy to shut down the first unit when you know Suzuki only has two options. Like one power play I love this year is the Rangers, with, it's hard to pronounce his name...Trocheck."

Anyone who actually watches this team in person knows they’re not operating as a squad
It takes massive amounts of luck & godlike performances in net to keep the puck out of our net

And near miracles for us to put one in theirs

It’s really pathetic

Tampa was running set plays all night on us and our guys just watched the puck go everywhere they weren’t

They should be sellers at the deadline and it’s probably time for a re-tool @ best

Out of all the bullshit tonight, I think the most frustrated play was the 2 v 1 in OT with Fox (and Zibs I think). The D-man is playing the middle and Fox skates in so close to Vasi that he's breathing on him, but decides to pass for such a bad angle shot. I 100% thought that Fox was going to shoot it. I love Fox, but sometimes I wish he had some Makar in him man. We have too many passers on this team and when the score is close, for us, with out luck, fancy isn't the way to go.

You're gonna hate the NHL moving forward.

edit: You're gonna hate hockey moving forward. The revolution is at all levels.

Hogwash. Actually it was a near miracle that we only scored 1 goal. Tampa was dominated for large portions of this game and we had a ton of opportunities. We are also 2 points out of second place so it's probably a little early to be calling for a retool.

I was there 5 rows behind the bench
It could’ve easily been an 8-1 Tampa win
Easily

I thought Tampa had the edge but not by that large of a margin.
Not to put on a tinfoil hat, but this isn't the first time I've noticed something similar. I think data in Tampa is a bit friendly towards home scoring chances.

A bit of arena bias is not out of the ordinary. If you bring up Hank's career numbers on EH and turn off venue adjustment, his GSAx goes up by 9 goals (which isn't nothing for a normal goalie -- it's nothing for Hank) because MSG notoriously counts shots as slightly closer to the net then they are.
