Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Jets 3/14/13 - Tort-O-Rella

13 points in 25 playoff games with the Rangers. Is that really what we want from a guy with a $7.5M cap hit?

Sure, you can use selective stats to try to make ARod out to be a decent playoff performer too, but the overall body of work suggests otherwise.

I'd also agree with the people complaining about Richards - he's been deplorable too - but at least he brings some value outside of pure offensive production, even when he isn't playing well. Gaborik is invisible 95% of the time.

What else does Richards do?

Honest question; Can someone seriously tell me why Miller is here over Kreider?

Kreider wasn't playing well but Miller is doing poorly and causing turnovers left and right. They both belong in the AHL but seeing Kreider get pushed into the doghouse with Miller still here is baffling.

Help me understand this :shakehead

Easy

I have a feeling most Gaborik haters are over 40 and are more fans of the older NHL.

Hate to break it to you fellas but its 2013, not 1970.

What the hell is that supposed to mean pal? Does it mean that Gabby should be given a free pass when he doesn't compete every game and when he looks completely uninterested and disengaged??

Stop with the doopey excuses already for Gaborik.

hes 31 not 41

he can skate better than half the team

sounds more like youre describing richards

hes just having a rough start

You have provided me things that hapnned last season. He's 31. With him getting older, you think he's not going to get injured as much? Are you seriously trying to ****ing tell me he doesn't stand around at times doing nothing?

Show me where he deked out a defender this season? His skating, last season we we're debating who's the fastest of the two: Hagelin or him. Now, a ****ing joke.

But it's okay. He'll bless us once in a blue moon with a goal. Just how he rolls. That he gets paid 7.5 million shouldn't matter.

18th in franchise history.

They just dont like him. Period. The guy could score 60 goals for all we care, they still wont like him.

Theyre biased towards North Americans.

LOL

There comes a time when a professional athlete stops being the player they used to be. You do know that?

Arod hit a bunch of memorable HR's to help the Yankees win the 09' series. We won't forget that. He also has 650+ HR's in his career. But you know what.

NO ONE would take him on their team, right now. He isn't even a shadow of what he was 3 years ago. Same goes for Gaborik. Not too hard to understand. And no.....this isn't a "slump":shakehead

a few theories. Back in 2010 Kreider stayed in college which pissed Torts off. Also miller is a grinder and we all know torts likes grinders.

didnt torts say something along the lines of "i have to stop watching whale games because im starting to develop bad opinions about certain players"

Im just curious where you guys were in 2010-11 when he had an off season.

If Sather listened to you, we wouldve traded him for god knows what, and hed be scoring 40 goals and in the ECF with another team.

This board is way too ****ing "what have you done for me lately." It really is, and this being "New Yawk" compounds that even further.

What else does Richards do?

Wins a faceoff once in a blue moon. Attempts to play a lick of defense. Tries to back check. Brings a minimal amount of leadership.

Granted, obviously none of those are ringing endorsements in themselves, but he's still more noticeable out there than Gaborik when they're both not producing offensively. Sure, a lot of that is positionally biased, but it's still something.

All this said, I'm not on board with trading Gaborik. At least not right now. Trading someone at the low is never a good idea. I just wish he was playing better. In the past, there were games when he'd have an extra jump in his stride where he was absolutely untouchable. On one of "those" nights, he was all over the ice. Unfortunately, I can't remember the last time we saw that. His biggest asset is his legs, and they haven't shown out this year. Without the legs, his shooting ability is wasted.

He needs to find whatever it is he used to have, and find it quickly.

they were horrible in 20120-2011

Gaborik was all we had with offense. We now have Nash. Are we seriously going to keep cutting him slack?

I'm not touching Richards because a majority of people agree that Richards needs to be bought out.

Yes he did. Hell even last year in the playoffs when kreider was one of our better players he didnt say much about him. However he talks lovingly about miller lol. Look kreider will never be a defensice stopper and thats ok. the kid brings offense esepcially when he is front of the net. i feel bad for the kid because i gurantee on any other team he would be a lot more effective. Either Torts doesnt know how or refuses to use that kid correctly

well i guess we'll just have to accept that he only plays every other season. next year the cup is ours.

1. So he was good at 30 but at 31 isn't? 31 isn't old.

2. He does stand around doing nothing sometimes. He's done this the past 3 years also. He's scored 100 goals combined those years doing this.

3.Why do you expect him to deke out a defender? Not his game now, never has been his game.

The problem is you guys seem to want Gaborik to be not only a guy with a great shot and a great speed but also great defensively, strong on the boards, a good checker, Callahan-type effort, great moves and such so essentially you want him to be like...Mario Lemieux or something.

Richards was money in the post season.

I am a Richards supporter and I agree.

He earned his entire contract from March-May IMO.

Im speaking more in terms of offense/defense.

Hes just like Gaborik. If hes not scoring, whats he doing?

I'd trade him for Anisimov and Dubinsky back in a heartbeat, not sure Columbus would go for it.

For 7.5 million we need (somewhat) consistent production, we've never gotten it from Gaborik. Like I said, he's the best Ranger ever at stuffing the stat sheet. 3 of his 8 goals this year came in 1 game, stats can be deceiving.

So we'd be better off having one great goal scorer than two. Replacing Gaborik with Nash just puts us back to the same spot we were in before. All the offense through one player.
