Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Jets 3/14/13 - Tort-O-Rella

Dubinsky had an off year last year. Have you watched Anisimov play this year? The guy has tremendous upside and a bright future. Both players are also better in the defensive zone. They fit Torts' system better.

It amazes me how you can somehow defend Gaborik after how he's played this year. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt too if his play at least a little bit resembled his play from previous years. I'm hopeful he turns hit around, we need him to.

dubinsky had a relatively average year. he is a 10-15 goal guy who can play defense. the columbus ****ing blue jackets are trying to trade him now that says something. anisimov was my favorite player last year and giving him up hurt. that said arty has all the talent in the world but is incredibly streaky. he may have one of the best shots ive ever seen but you dont see it all that often. i still take gabs over both of these players

Yeah, Gaborik sure was a floater:

Look at that. He even outdeked a goalie on his first goal.

was this his second year here where half his goals were against the leafs and islanders?

jeez im usually a huge gabby supporter but this team has just got me so bitter lately :shakehead

Gabby's skating is the worst I've seen since he joined the team. He's not moving his feet, he has no jump. There's no excuse for that, unless his hips are ****ed again.

Why??? Would anyone else keep Gaborik over Anisimov and Dubinsky? There's a reason Columbus gave Nash away for those two players dude, remember that?

and theres a reason the new gm is "cleaning up the mess howson left with the nash trade" too

Kinda dislike those polls, also. Some players played well and it frames the discussions in a very negative and childish way. I understand it's a difficult second loss but seriously, we can do better than 'suck jokes'.

I thought McDonagh had a terrific game. Him and Hank were our best players tonight.

Then what system was it? Seems to me that the 2 forecheckers have been there since Torts has been here. Same small box defense collapsing around the net. They fought along the boards for pucks and cycled down low a lot like this team has done since Torts has been here. They certainly didnt run and gun. I dont remember that. Not with an older Prospal and Drury and a young Dubi, Cally and Anisimov that Torts was still trying to "teach".

That was Boyles first year on the team and Avery was still around. Voros played half the season and our defense was not that puck mover friendly with the exception on maybe Del Zotto who has fallen on the map. We had Rozsival as well who was ok but couldnt hit the net. We acquired Prust halfway through to help with that stingy defense and wear you down offense.

Maybe I have forgotten though. It has been awhile. I should watch some games of that team. It would be interesting.

Tortorella didnt implement that until later on though.

Remember the first 7 game stretch we were 7-0, Gaborik and Del Zotto were killing it, then everything went to **** because of all the oddman rushes? I distinctly remember the press conferences of Torts explaining him having to adjust the system because he didnt have the personnel.

Despite this it was still an in your face, more uptempo offense and Gaborik had much more free reign with that team.

He didnt start using a more offense from defense/capitalize on mistakes/dump and chase system til later on.

They also werent shot blocking so the transition game was better.

Over the last few years, the right players were acquired for what he was building but now its past that point. He was compensating before for a major lack of talent throughout the lineup. Now that isnt the case.

I always thought that at least.

Yeah. The reason was that Nash asked out and had a list of teams he could be traded to. Of that list, the Rangers were the team that could give Columbus the biggest return. It's not because they are special players.

Agreed.

From this point on, let's keep these polls to "player of the game/3 stars". No need for polls such as this.

This is my biggest pet peeve.

He's gonna float away from the puck. He's not great on the walls. That's just who he is. Whatever. But with that, I expect him to use his burst when the puck is on his stick. We haven't seen that in quite awhile. Coming down the wing 1 on 1 against Andrej Sekera and getting turned back is not acceptable.

I know we love our stats here....Dubinsky and Anisimov combined stats: 7 G, 10 A, which is nearly identical to Gaborik's production this year. This does not take Dubinsky's defensive value into account, as well as Anisimov's potential.

It wasn't for their superstar play, that's for sure...

Are you really cherrypicking stats from a guy in a down year?

:shakehead

Lets do that for Ovechkin too while we're at it.

This guy was one of our fastest guys, creating chances, firing the puck. Now, we are lucky if he attempts two shots on goal.

You realize he is 30th in the league in shots/game at 3.2? Last few years he was 18th (3.3 shots/game), 37th (3.1 shots/game) and 14th (3.6 shots/game). So good job at looking up the data to support your point.:sarcasm:

Lol. You do realize that X amount of points from one player is more valuable than X amount from two players combined given that the player making up the second players spot will be worth >0 points right?

Even in a down year, Ovechkin still potted 38 goals. Picked up two points today to push his points tally to 22. Guy isn't afraid to lay into a hit.

Of course. But in the middle of the season when he is in a slump and the team has a lot of talent/potential on it is not the time to make the move.

Exactly. Which is entirely 100% why im so annoying and adamant on here about it.

You gotta ride it out this season.
