Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Jets 3/14/13 - Tort-O-Rella

Seriously. No Dubi. No Prust.
THIS is what this team needs.

I love Nash, but THESE are the Rangers. This is the team that got us into first, and the ECF last year

absolutely not. that line was barely together. dubi was benched for liek half the season. AA played with gabs and steps and cally played with richie and another LW for a lot of the season. cally, lundqvist and gaborik got us to the playoffs last year not dubi and arty

Are you really cherrypicking stats from a guy in a down year?

:shakehead

Lets do that for Ovechkin too while we're at it.

ovechkin isn't the only problem...the whole capitals team is

ovy while having a bad year with a bad team still has 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points in 26 games this year

gabby has 8 goals 9 assists for 17 points in 26 games with a team that is mediocre

Saying we miss Prust? Agreed.

Saying we miss Dubi? Please no. He made tons of those bonehead plays, in all 3 zones, went on a ridiculous scoring draught and was a complete non-factor in the playoff. The 'showing heart' means nothing to me if it doesn't translate into actual scoring/preventing of scoring.

Why??? Would anyone else keep Gaborik over Anisimov and Dubinsky? There's a reason Columbus gave Nash away for those two players dude, remember that?

because

1. He wanted out.
2. They really couldn't afford him
3. They sucked with him

?

Judging by how some of you love Gaborik, I wouldn't be surprised if you thought HE was better than Ovi

Not at all.

Being an avid fan of this pathetic franchise just made me develop a massive soft spot for guys with talent on this team who are underappreciated.

Thats my shtick.

Im also a Richards supporter, but thats entirely another can of worms.

I do think he should be bought out but 2014 at the earliest. Gaborik shouldnt be moved til the draft.

My god the ending of that Torts presser

I missed it... What happened? Can you give a re-cap?

Charlie if you're reading this and it was noteworthy, any chance you can upload the post game comments from Torts?

Gabby's skating is the worst I've seen since he joined the team. He's not moving his feet, he has no jump. There's no excuse for that, unless his hips are ****ed again.

For a guy who has been touted as one of the fastest players in the NHL, he goes after pucks slower than John Scott did. That's because he doesn't want to get involved. Maybe he'll stop being a one dimensional player in his contract year.

Im so exhausted from watching this team for the last several years, as im sure we all are.

I am very reluctant to get rid of proven talent from this team. Especially in the form of a 40 goal scorer.

Name on the front> Name on the back

If the Rangers didn't have Rick Nash, combined with Gaborik's struggles, we'd be in worse position than now. The Nash deal was made to win the cup, because the ECF is no longer the goal. Step back in the regular season, step forward in the playoffs.

Tortorella didnt implement that until later on though.

Remember the first 7 game stretch we were 7-0, Gaborik and Del Zotto were killing it, then everything went to **** because of all the oddman rushes? I distinctly remember the press conferences of Torts explaining him having to adjust the system because he didnt have the personnel.

Despite this it was still an in your face, more uptempo offense and Gaborik had much more free reign with that team.

He didnt start using a more offense from defense/capitalize on mistakes/dump and chase system til later on.

They also werent shot blocking so the transition game was better.

Over the last few years, the right players were acquired for what he was building but now its past that point. He was compensating before for a major lack of talent throughout the lineup. Now that isnt the case.

I always thought that at least.

Perhaps you are right. But, that would still only put Gabby in a offensive-minded system for maybe half the season, at most? Maybe slightly more by the time the team got Prust and started to really play lockdown.

I guess in the end I am unhappy with both Gabby and Torts, but they should both be smart enough and tough enough to realize the problems and fix themselves. Torts did it once and it worked as you have rightly brought back to my attention. Gabby has done it and it has worked as well last season.

We should be able to win with this coach and these players, but right now they are all not delivering enough on a nightly basis. When players quit on their coaches they are usually too weak to win anyways, with few exceptions. And coaches need to be smart enough to take some different approaches. Torts' interview tonight wasnt as bad as last games thats for sure.

I think Gaby is guaranteed to have a good year next year for two reasons:

1) during his current trend of on/off seasons, its an on season

2) contract year

Sadly, he probably wont be doing it here, and im calling 5 goals against us.

he looked confused answering the normal questions not really angry and then they asked what he thought of the tort-o-rella chant and he said "what? THE WHAT?" then the guy said "hes not answering that, next question"

The problem here is outside if Nash, Hank (sometimes), Callahan, Hagelin, and Stepan, the Rangers are either A. underperforming (Gaborik, Richards, defense, Del zotto's offense, etc) or B. They have guys who simply belong on a 4th line (pyatt, Boyle, powe, etc) or C. They are relying on guys who simply aren't ready to really contribute in the NHL right now (Miller). You can say lets trade Gaborik or Richards etc but odds are you're not going to get the kind of talent you want back. If the Rangers are going to go ANYWHERE, its going to be because gaborik and Richards found their game. Its pretty much that simple.

You realize he is 30th in the league in shots/game at 3.2? Last few years he was 18th (3.3 shots/game), 37th (3.1 shots/game) and 14th (3.6 shots/game). So good job at looking up the data to support your point.:sarcasm:

Yep, let's just gloss over those handful of games where he only has 2 SOG and even has games without even 1.

didn't watch.. what was said?

"What did you think of the Tortarella chants coming from the crowd?" -Reporter
"The what?" -Torts
"We'll take the next question" -PR guy whose identity I'm not entirely sure of
