Confirmed with Link: Rangers Hire Peter Laviolette as Head Coach, Assistants Michael Peca & Dan Muse

Kreider can find it again? He has 88 goals the last 2 seasons not counting the playoffs. He also has 7 short handed goals the last 2 years. Kreider aint the problem its getting the inconsistent younger players like Laf and FC to be better and guys like Panarin to play to his level.

Peca, Housley, and Drury?
Real Buffalo connection.
Not sure how I feel about this all told. Like the assistants, but one non-winning culture, borrowing from another?

Also - apt considering how closely the Rangers builds have historically mimicked the 98-99 Sabres team. All world goaltending, ???, duct tape, and zip ties.

The hell?

Weren’t you a Brunette guy? How much winning has HE done?

I'm not anybody's "guy." I want people that will coach and develop offense.

On paper the assistants seem decent, but it strikes me as odd when a GM largely associated with one org. picks players largely associated with the same org.

I've just learned to be skeptical about everything this team does from a lifetime of following it, rather than just excitedly jumping on the "OMG _____________ is good at GMing guyz!" bandwagon everytime he makes a move. There is plenty of historical precent for my doing so, so I don't need to go into it here.

I really think, for all the shit he got over Lavi, Drury really hit it out of the park with this staff. Love the mix they have.
He makes some great moves then follows it up with absolute grenades. He's a hard guy to predict

Peca spent 2 seasons within that org, all of it in Rochester (last 2 years) where they were successful and the players who were under his tutelage have gone on to be pretty good NHL players.

Housley spent 2 seasons with that org, all of it with the parent club where they were not anything close to resembling successful.

He spent more time in Nashville where his defense was awesome.

Muse spent no time there.

It's a bit of a stretch honestly.

He didn't play with a single one of the ACs. Muse didn't even play last NCAA DIII

I wonder if Peca is "un officially" taking that role while having the PP duties.

ideally we'd have a guy who had a little more skill if we're gonna upgrade. wonder what nik zherdev is up to these days. or maybe kovalev wants to come hang out and do some toe drags.

messier used to come teach faceoffs for a minute...bring back one of those guys to help all the guys on this team that handle the puck like they're trying to beat it into a square

It sounds like we're all pretty optimistic about the staff now, which, of course, means it will be terrible. Sorry, but I don't make the rules.

Seriously, though, I do like the mix of fresh, young coaches with the veteran head coach.

I am beyond impressed with the coaching staff honestly. Peca and Housley along with Muse? Drury just built a staple of young, good coaches

Seems like they brought in guys capable of working on specific shortcomings and solid communicators.

That's going to help with messaging from HC and areas of need on ice.

I like the staff as a whole more than the sum of the parts.

the vets have a lot of room to be 'coached up' too. It's not just the young players.

Sometimes winning type players are on teams that dont win. Pecca and Drury both played winning hockey in my opinion with leadership. Drury won the Calder. Won a cup. Was a captain. Was an Olympian, Hobey Baker winner etc. Drury was a Selke vote getter many times. Pecca actually won the Selke twice. Funny thing is Drury was called Captain Clutch while Pecca was called Captain Crunch. Peca also was an Olympian. Both guys were in the playoffs for years. Don't be misled by later Buffalo teams.
Housley is a HOF guy was in the playoffs his whole career as well.

Now this is all about their playing career which is only slightly relavant to how they are as coaches and management.

Yep. Much like Gretzky and Trottier. Cautionary tale for those who wanted to hire Messier. Just because you're a great player doesn't mean you'll be a great head coach.
True, but I can really envision Messier being a great motivator and being able to get players to buy into a system/philosophy... whatever the f*** that might end up being. Hahahaha.

I get the thought based on his reputation as a captain, but to date, he hasn't motivated himself to be a coach at any level. It's been 19 years since he last played and there's no indication that he even wants to coach. He seems pretty comfortable doing what he's doing.
