Confirmed with Link: Rangers Hire Peter Laviolette as Head Coach, Assistants Michael Peca & Dan Muse

Im coming around to Lavs being coach. I mean he is a great coach and WSH was not his fault. This is probably a good situation for him.

But mostly, this team has alot of big personalities i think. Or at least a veteran personalities. They might have just chewed up a younger coach. Lavs at least commands some respect.

Coming around a bit too but mainly because I shifted my thinking somewhat from "Rangers need to find a new coach to be "the guy" for the foreseeable future" and more "Rangers are hiring this guy to come in and try to win NOW with the current team, and he'll likely be out in 3 years and the Rangers will be retooling their lineup and looking for a new coach to grow with them then"
Lavy isn't a sexy new hire but he's an experienced coach who knows his way around a team and players and the NHL and brings what the players were reportedly asking for. For all the "country club" and "veteran personalities" and "players getting the coach fired" people are talking about, that's directly a result of how Gallant ran his team. He was hands off, he wanted the players to police themselves and solve their problems, and in the end the players said "we don't want that we want a coach who will push us and help get us over the top"

So, that's what they're getting. If it doesn't get done then we'll see a roster restructure soon and just have to cross our fingers that someone like Laf and Kakko step up to lead the team going forward.

Almost every playoff worthy team is in win now. Nobody was picking Vegas or Florida to win before the season started. Few expected teams like the AVs and Bruins to go out so early either. Each season is individual. You take it as it comes.

Brooksie saying the Leach non hire was probably mutual - ie... heard rumblings from the Leach side that this team, on this stage, with lofty expectations, probably wasn't a great landing spot for a first year coach.

How dare coaches who have coached in the league before ever get a job again!

Just look at the coaches that were in this year's Final. "retread" after "retread".

The more I think about it, the more I think this is the move the Rangers had to make given the dearth of options. Quenville, even if reinstated, probably wouldn't be a great match given the scrutiny he and the Rangers would be under, Babcock wasn't really a serious option, Roy is like playing with a match and kerosene in the same room, Leach (see above) was hesitant, expecting Knoblouch to come up as a 1st year coach and guide this team to a Cup isn't exactly his best starting point, and Hynes has accomplished absolutely nothing so far.

I don't love the hire but it's understandable. And, you'd have to think that given the guy's resume, he will command respect from veterans in the room and he won't be afraid to step on toes that need stepping on.

I'd rather eat Dominos than pizza in Ohio or most of Europe, frankly. It's not good but it is at least consistent. And I say this as someone who lives in a pizza Mecca basically.
Not to keep harping on about pizza, but that was sort of the point. It's not special or exciting, it's not great, but at least you know you won't get the sugary tomato sauce, fake cheese, soggy ass dough shit that passes for pizza in my part of the world.

Isles improved under him. Philly went to the cup with him. We are undefeated with him. 😊

Next week is introduction. We don't play till October.

Completely irrelevant as to when he was just hired as compared to when we play or TC starts.

Just more of the same apathy shown towards the fan base.

It hurts NO ONE to get the new guy to make the rounds on local sports channel outlets.

If they wait until next week, then they should have announced the hire next week as well.

You are entitled to your opinion even though many pro sports teams do the same exact thing every year. I have zero problem with it. CBJ hasn't introduced Babcick yet either but he will be their next coach.

Or.....just more of the same nonsense complaining for those who think they are entitled to what they want.

We just hired a new coach.....must be an invitation to shit on the team some more for "fans" who would also complain about what time the press conference will be.

I guess we have to accept the fact that this is a special market that needs a spokesman for the media as well as a coach in that spot. I was hoping for Roy out of the available guys but Laviolette is a safe choice for a GM looking to hold on to his job. I'll throw my support behind him until he gives me reason not to, but I said it last time when they hired Gallant, the players have to nut up and be better, they can't just keep firing coaches.

I don't know anything specific, but there probably are rules for when players can be contacted in the offseason. But before September is a safe bet.
Just poking a little fun at the fact Gallant didn’t seem at all interested in getting to know anyone before training camp, that seemed odd to me at the time and still does, not sure it matters much but came off a little too nonchalant for my tastes

Well, I found this anyway:

You're not from NY, are you?

Still no television or radio interviews with the new guy?

Pathetic
We on full-on hate everything mode right now aren’t we?

This was not a sexy hire, so I get why everyone is down about it, but the available coaching pool was pretty lackluster. Everyone was flawed. Gallant wasn't it, so I was happy to move on.

I almost feel bad for Lavy since he's basically dead man walking. No coach is going to make some of our guys better at 5 on 5 in the playoffs. This roster is flawed the way it's built.

You can't have so much tied up in the cap on players that become invisible in the playoffs, especially when they're not on the pp. Rather than fight for possession, they rather swing the puck around the boards blindly. They don't even want to go after the puck when it's in the corner or in high traffic. The worst part is that almost everyone has a no-trade clause, so we're just going to mostly run it back and hope Igor steals playoff games.

He can make them better 5 on 5 by making better lineup decisions, having guys who struggle 5 on 5 all playing together doesn't help at all. The other thing we'll see is that Zib isn't likely going to get the shut down role anymore so that will likely free him up.
