Muckler/Lowe/Quinn were all connection based. Renney wasn't a connection, he was the only man who would take the job after Sather himself didn't want it.
"I think the Rangers can win a round this year" is WAY more reasonably and likely. *Anything goes* once you go into the playoffs, of course, because there isn't a straight face during the offseason saying the Canadiens can take the cup, but Rangers are so so far off from being contenders. It takes a very long time.
Teams go in these runs, yes, and we always tell ourselves we're next, but when's the last time one of them actually won the whole thing? 1993?"I think the Rangers can win a round this year" is WAY more reasonably and likely to say during Summer '23. *Anything goes* once you go into the playoffs, of course, because there wasn't a straight face during the last offseason saying the Canadiens can take the cup, but Rangers are so so far off from being contenders. Renney was already in the organization at the time he took the job from Sather.
Carpiniello is also reporting the Rangers fired the video coach Jerry Dineen too. Colin Campbell hired him. Dineen was here through so many coaching staffs.
The Rangers still owe Girardi two years from his buyout.
I have to write that one down.In other news, beyond excited to add the word "palooka" to my vocabulary, @Machinehead never disappoints.
If you want to mix it up, "chumbolone" is a similarly and similarly great one I've learned since moving to Chicago.
I'm with you.
Gallant had no pre-existing ties to the organization that I know of.
Low was in Edmonton while Sather was there. Muckler another one, obvious connection to Sather. Trottier, not sure if there was any connection there, Tortarella had been with the Rangers previously as an interim and Quinn was friends with Drury from Drury's BU days.
For sure, and I cringe when writers are like "Nathan is going to win his fair share soon enough..." etc etc. What? No he fcking won't!I'd be happy with a strong showing this next season --- be it one round or two.
As mentioned by others, I think the transition from playoffs to top contender is usually a little more complicated and seldom as smooth as many imagine.
This team is probably going to have some seasons like recently seen from the Avs or Tampa before they truly realize their potential. So I also squirm a little when people are already planning their days off around attending cup finals games in 2024.

Like you said, I think Kakko's offense will come with better players, time, and more special team time.
One thing that people don't always take into account in today's NHL is just how much of a boost powerplay time provides to numbers. You get those kids some consistent time, including time with the man advantage, and they're going to be jumping into that 50-60 point range very quickly.
With Kakko, I also think we're potentially looking at a guy who becomes a top-5 Selke candidate for the next decade.
Meaning an out of no where cup win? LA the first time around maybe?Teams go in these runs, yes, and we always tell ourselves we're next, but when's the last time one of them actually won the whole thing? 1993?
I'll concede the Trottier one. That was probably them trying to get a New York sports legend and a guy coming off a Cup as an assistant.
Finally a real NHL coach
No more Les Miles of the NHL
A lot of people had LA contending that year, they just massively disappointed in the regular season.Meaning an out of no where cup win? LA the first time around maybe?
Big musclesI never got the fascination with Brind'Amour.
He has a firmly second round roster and has lost in the second round.
Vince McMahon roster building.Big muscles
Sather saw the mess he made and was like....nope.

LMAO for some reason this sounds exactly like group chats from coworkers when somebody finishes their PhDAwesome. Very happy to see this!
Howden is just the type of fellow that might actually become a decent NHL player on a cheap deal for us under Gallant . That is what we have to hope for from him....help some guys raise the intensity levels /compete levels . Sink or swim for some guys now in NY .He’ll love Howden
