Keefe is a systems guy and we’re all calling for that. Toronto’s goalies have always been bad while he’s been there. He’s a very good candidate for us if he shakes loose

I had to look into this, because I hear people say it all the time, but it has never jived with what I'm seeing. Different parts of the team failed every year. Here's the playoff goalie performance since Keefe took over behind the bench:

2021 vs. Montreal (lost series 4-3): Campbell 0.934 Sv%
2022 vs. Tampa Bay (lost series 4-3): Campbell/Kallgren 0.901 Sv%
2023 vs. Tampa Bay (won series 4-2): Samsonov/Woll 0.897 Sv%
2023 vs. Florida (lost series 4-1): Samsonov/Woll 0.909 Sv%

@Kocur26 this was certainly disappointing but I think Carbery and the Capitals organization had some history. He coached Hershey and they always had the advantage. I am not privy to insider information but based on reading about him, it always seemed that Carbery joining the Capitals was inevitable. The interview could have been a courtesy. I am interested to see how he does, however.

Good thought @haohmaru - the only names that stand out is John Stevens from the Knights. Former Rangers defenseman, Sylvain Lefebvre is on Florida's staff. He was one of the players signed in the famous 1999 Free Agent shopping spree.

Good thought @haohmaru - the only names that stand out is John Stevens from the Knights. Former Rangers defenseman, Sylvain Lefebvre is on Florida's staff. He was one of the players signed in the famous 1999 Free Agent shopping spree.

Tuomo Ruutu is also an assistant for Florida and was in our front office two years ago. It would be surprising if that was what's holding this up, but can't rule out anything at this point. Stevens has connections to Dave Lowry who was recently WPG's head coach after Maurice for a bit. Lowry is on Seattle's staff now with Leach.

Don't really think there's a rush with it at this point since we're the only vacancy as of now.

His camp would have released the news that he turned us down. Just like it's likely his camp putting out reports he's still an option.

But yes, I agree that the longer this draws out, the less likely it is that Lavi and Hynes are hired. What's the wait if it's either of them?
