Unpopular opinion, but I think that if a coach slapped an 'A' on Kakko, sat him down and told him that he was accountable for how the team performed and was going to get minutes to match that, he'd be our best player in the playoffs by a significant margin.
Agreed, and speaking of As, the fact that Panarin has one just makes the rest of the team think those letters mean nothing.

If the new coach wants to show some balls he should strip the A's away and give them to the deserving players after training camp/preseason. It shouldn't be, "Oh you are the oldest players, here is your A"

I always wondered why they made iceland the superpower hockey team to beat. So random.
Finland or Sweden would’ve made sense. Russia wasn’t that far removed from the Cold War so media probably didn’t want to go down that road.

I’d agree, but I also think you do the same with Laf and get an even better outcome.

I think Laf will be there eventually too, but not really sure how that would go right now. Kakko looks like he's ready to be assertive with the veterans mid-game if given the opportunity.

We've officially started the hopium stage

I always thought it was cuz some Disney movie nerd who knew nothing about hockey figures Iceland would just be good at hockey cuz the word "Ice" was in the name.

And so they could make the "Greenland is full of ice, and Iceland is very nice" cringe joke when Bombay goes out "eating ice cream w/the enemy"...

I just remember hearing insiders who post on this board commenting on laf’s personality and drive and comparing them to messier.

Warming up to Hynes possibility.
Only 48, unlike other 'retreads'.
Respected by many.
Lots of success, except so far in NHL postseason,
but like the investment ads say 'past performance is no gurantee of future results'

for the love of God, pls be Knob
Fine w KK returning to Pack. See if he can continue his late season success. Indications, in press, he's already off the list

Part of me hoping for out-of-nowhere choice, like Serge Aubin, who's been coaching in Europe, and rumored, since when GG hired, to be intending to return to NA

I know I’ve been a bit of an ass about this whole thing, but what NHL success has he had? His regular season finishes in Jersey were 7th, 8th, 5th, and 8th in the Metro before being fired. In Nashville, they finished 5th, 4th, 5th, and 5th in the Central. 4-15 overall record in the playoffs

I get what you’re saying, but have we really seen coaches change much going into their 3rd stint? I’d imagine most of the change is seen upon their second hiring

I mean we’ve seen coaches improve, but usually it’s because they had time to reflect and realize.
He’s gone from job to job to job without really reflecting or changing.

Hynes with Boudreau may be interesting.

Everything I hear or read about Hynes is that he has all the tactics, system and practice methods down. He hasn't put it together yet obviously.

Maybe a vet like Boudreau can help him figure it out.... assuming Boudreau would take an assistant job. He usually gets a lot out of his offense.

If it’s Hynes, what a crazy coincidence that the exact perfect coach for the NYR is an old college buddy of Drury.

And for such an excellent tactician, his teams at 5 on 5 performed almost identical to the NYR over the same periods. Which is to say, not well.
That's exactly why it will be Hynes. He's going to hook his boy up.

Friedman in his latest 32 thoughts pod says the Rangers have him confused as if it was overwhelmingly Lavi or Hynes it'd be done already so wonders if there's another candidate that we're not seeing or one that they're waiting on. Says Brooks is closer to NYR than he is so he'll take his word on it not being Q but speculates about the Rangers waiting for clarity on Keefe. Wraps up by saying he doesn't really have a good handle on the situation so it's just his speculation more than anything.

The Rangers are confused.

It’s obvious the guys Drury did want didn’t shake loose so now he’s waiting around for something to fall out of the sky

It’s astounding this team has such difficulties getting the guy they want for coach the last few hires

Part of the problem of them thinking they're the smartest people in the room/that everyone thinks the same.
