Bylsma is the first name mentioned in here for a while that actually peaked my interest. Especially because I think this is gonna be a 'last chance cafe'' for this veteran group.

The good news for those who are growing impatient is that this appears to be heading toward the finish line. One source told me they believe a final decision will come before the end of the week, perhaps as soon as Wednesday.

At the moment, I would lay out these odds: Laviolette - 60%; Hynes - 30%; Other - 10%.

Drury swings and misses on all the candidates, leaving only 1 guy to come out of left field and save the team:

Wade Redden hired as assistant coach to coach the dmen
Billy Martin likely get some consideration ??? Drury will check under every rock.

Even if Laviollette was the (completely uninspiring) choice, what he has done since that leaked has made an even bigger mess. No one wants this guy, but it seems like the team barely wants him either.

And any other of the coaching prospects are awful.

Seems like he fired Gallant because of the fight they had, without a clear idea of where they were going next, or how to upgrade, or what this team was missing.

That would kinda fit in with the fact that the GM has had no idea what direction to take a young, up and coming team for years now, and just has been throwing darts at the dartboard instead of developing young talent.

What a mess. One of the best rebuild ever at one point, completely derailed.
Gotta agree in regards to the search, because it was reported Drury sat down with Lav twice and many reported he was the guy, like well over a week ago?

If he is indeed the choice, why wait?

Ok - you wanted to talk to Hynes... crossed that off the list. That was about a week ago as well. We thought he was waiting for Roy - that wasnt the case - didnt even want to talk to him.

Only other reason would be to wait for Q, unless there is another candidate we dont know about that he's waiting to sit down with.

Although I will say a coach is kinda like a goalie in that you can win without a great one. Hill is 2 wins away from a Cup and hes a career 2.67, .910. He's solid but nothing spectacular. We've seen it over and over. He's playing well at the right time.

In the end its about the players. Execution. Wanting it more than the other guy. For this particular group I'd say its probably a little more important given they need the right guidance/kick in the pants, not to mention the whole thing with the kids.

The system has its importance for sure, but no one is Jacques Lemaireing the league these days. And there is certainly no coach available out there that right now can affect the game to that level with X's and O's.

Whatever you want to believe, it isnt a good look or a good sell to the fanbase, whoever he settles on. And when I say "settle" - Thats whats happening here.

I may as well throw out another PEI born coach just named Top Coach in the OHL....and winner of World Junior Gold with Othmann on his club .....Dave Cameron former Calgary assistant and former head coach of Ottawa Senators who actually did OK there despite a hole filled roster . Hard worker.....would work twice as hard since he would be following in PEI golden boy Gallant's shoes . Dave has always been second fiddle to Turk here on PEI .......he would be interesting . Also known for grooming Jason Spezza as an AHL player before he became an NHL star .

I dunno, it's mostly the same group that came back down 3-1 to Pittsburgh and took out Carolina in 7 and put of a half decent fight against Tampa last year. They dug deep and "wanted it" and all that stuff last year, but I think they were "lucky" to just get things to click at the right time and this season they didn't. One thing that bothered me was it felt like once again Mika was trying to play the role of matchup center and play defensively responsible above all else but that lead to him just not scoring at all or getting looks. He did that last year against Pittsburgh too and then realized "I can't just pretend I'm a checking center I need to be creating offense" and he did and he carried them in some tough games.

So what was different this year? 🤷
they didn't "turn it on" at the right time and kept hoping/waiting for things to click and didn't seem on the same page. To me, again, that's on the coach. The players have to execute but the coach needs to give them something to execute.
They seemed like they had a solid gameplan in the first two games against the Devils and then when the Devils adjusted a bit the Rangers were lost and it seems like the only instruction they got was "just go out there and do it"

All of them suck. NYS is the worst state to do business in. NYC is just as bad.
100%. I hold a deep and abiding hate in my heart for the MTA and NYS Taxation and Finance. Dolan is not far behind because of what a general scumbag he is and how everything to do with MSG seems to reek of that slimy stench.

IMO NYC is the worst place in the country to do business in, except maybe San Francisco or Chicago. NYS is better, but not by much.

Drury likely is going back through the old Sporting News mags his mom saved for coaching help. He has not got to the dead or alive interview yet .
Drury is the kid in high school who played all of the varsity sports and he thinks he is the smartest guy in the room. I played the game.

They are so bad. NYS takes forever to approve licenses. Their state and city employees are all lazy.

Maybe Lavy wants term. Maybe its Lavys coaching staff that Drury is not on board with. Maybe it's salary. Maybe so far Lavy is insisting on something outlandish. Maybe those demands pissed Drury off.

If the supposed insiders don't know shit, then maybe it's a reason nobody thought of, and it could be something really simple or really complicated, and NOT a popular HF narrative.

Have you considered aliens?

It’s clear that Drury and Gallant disagreed about how this season played out. Drury likely felt that he gave Gallant all he needed to go all the way, and Gallant came up miserably short.

Gallant likely felt like his regular season record canceled out the postseason embarrassment. If so, Gallant terribly wrong.

When Drury was hired I kinda got excited in that we were getting a young, up-and-coming executive that other teams coveted.

An intelligent hockey guy who would be more progressive in his approach, both on and off the ice and at the draft table.

You look at some of the moves and signings he's made. Some duds and mis-steps including the Blais deal and Kane to name a couple. His coaching hire lasts two seasons after back to back playoff appearances.

No name yet, but if its a move for Laviolette or Hynes there is nothing progressive or out of the ordinary from Drury that separates himself from the run of the mill GM
with the current owner, it doesn’t matter who is GM. They’re either a talk box or they’re on the short list.

I’m sure Drury would want the other guys in a perfect world, but to save his own job he’s gonna go with who the owner wants.

It’s Dolan and it’s always been dolan

Ciaccio staying pisses me off way more than whichever coach they bring in. No one knows what the new blood can bring to this mix, but it’s well documented what Ciaccio brings. Getting really bummed about the Rangers, starting to not be worth my mental energy.

I still wouldn’t mind hynes only for the fact that Drury would finally have his guy and all levels of the organization would be on the same page for the first time in years. That’s more important than placating the fanbase with a hot name imo
