The biggest roadblock to Roy being the HC is his need to have a say in roster makeup.

If Drury is ok with this, he probably gets the nod. If Drury is not ok with it, we probably get stuck with Laviolette.

The biggest positive with Roy is that he would absolutely shred Panarin. Those marathon shifts, soft players, dumb TO's, forced passes that have 0% chance of being completed - He will NOT stand for that shit. That kind of stuff will get his ass benched as it should have already. Wouldn't put it past him to put artemi on the 4th line and take him off of BOTH PP units until he earned his way back (honestly, this should happen at the start of the season if Panarin is still here.)

I have no idea if he would really be an improvement beyond what he was the last time he was in the league and there are a ton of reasons to believe that he wouldn't be. The accountability across the board is something that wouldn't be here with the other candidates on the table and that alone probably makes him a better option than the shit recycled candidates that we're supposedly interested in.

He would have to come with a strong X's and O's assistant.

That would be a mistake.

Igor will be great no matter what system he plays in. Finding something that works best for the rest of the skaters is the way to go.
So grandstanding aside, the positive is not that Roy will shred guys. It’s that he has the credibility to shred guys. Anyone can yell. He’s a cup winner/first ballot hall of gamer. The message hits differently when it’s coming from a guy like that

Has there been any indication the Rangers are interviewing or have interviewed Roy?

Or is all of this in the media still speculation?

Who was that dude who tweeted the chatter is getting louder?
It's a carousel of educated guesses because Drury has no leaks and none of the beat writers or bloggers have any real idea.

My new prediction for the week: If no one is named by Friday they will speculate that Drury is waiting for the SCF to be over so Bettman can interview Q before he makes his coaching decision.

This is exactly where i am.

This roster had Gallant who was very player friendly. They had a good run last year. It appears he was tuned out the season (pretty quickly). How he could be tuned out when he really didnt do much of anything is kinda odd to me.

This team and the core personalities on it need a kick in the ass. They earned that. The way they self immolated themselves early in the year and then later on in a huge rival playoff series tells me shouldnt have a choice in the matter anymore. If Torts was available id go back to that well again.

They need a big personality to come in and shake things up. If it all goes to shit - well, it seems to be headed in that direction anyway whether its a vanilla veteran coach, a rookie coach or someone like Roy.

Roy has the winning pedigree. Hes über competitive. He's won hardware at every level, and lots of it. He wont beat around the bush with this group. He has NHL experience and a Jack Adams. This job could be a good fit in a lot of ways.

To be clear I don’t believe that yelling at guys is gonna make this team win. So I don’t mean it that way.

I mean the issue with roster construction, contract status, cap space, etc means THIS is what it is. And it’s majorly flawed. Easily exposed.

So the idea that some recycled hockey man is gonna tweak it as to win strikes me as far fetched.

the only way this ceiling increases is if the kids takes jumps. The vets are what they are. And this franchise, and really the fanbase, doesn’t seem remotely interested in that other than calling them all p***yes and expecting they’ll just snap out of it.

So really at this point, they’re not gonna fix anything. It’s just the same old shit. So there is no loss here by going risky.

I have heard this not just about Roy in the past. Torts had similar input in Columbus and now in Philly. I fail to see how your coach wanting some say in the players they get is a bad thing. These aren't Neanderthals. Many of the NHL coaches have been around the game for 40-60 years.

would this count as jam?

People acting like Roy is just "guy who yells" have not closely followed his coaching journey.

He won a Jack Adams award in the NHL with an inexperienced and very flawed Colorado team. He completely changed his system and the way he coaches in the QMJHL and has won 2 Memorial Cups there as well as some very deep runs.

He runs a tight structured system that suits the modern day game and gets the most out of talented but not top tier rosters.

He is worthy of another look. He knows Drury. This is a much better fit than the other available options at this point.

Taking a step back to look at his Colorado tenure, it is pretty clear he won a Jack Adams award because of Varlamov. He was on an absolute heater that year. His teams were absolutely awful 5 on 5 throughout his entire NHL tenure including the Jack Adams year.

Interested to hear what he has done differently in the Q, have you read anything good on that? Still skeptical anything in the Q will translate all the way to the NHL but would still be curious.

It's not about a "coach that yells". over simplifying it to 'hur dur he yells' is about as disingenuous as it gets.

Roy is a fiery competitor. That is transmissible. That is what the group severely lacks. The group takes on the personality of their coach. I welcome this type of compete

His tactics and coaching are a separate issue to discuss.
