Why are GM's so pumped to hire someone WHO JUST GOT FIRED. There is a reason these people were shitcanned.

For chrissakes this team is not going to win no damned cup next year espcially not with tried and tired tactics. Hire some new shit. GOSH DARNIT!

The team is made of a lot of good parts and a lot of BAD parts that make up a mediocre whole. Hynes or Lavoratoryette is going to implement a strategy to fix the bad parts? when was the last time any retread that is on the market has done that? 2008?

The one good thing, from a Rangers perspective is if it's John Hynes you're more than likely going to have no issue beating the Devils. He's had a winning record against NJD since being fired.

It's shocking to people here that hockey is very interconnected, everyone has a past with everyone else and people are more inclined to hire people they know well and trust.
It worked for Hynes. He coached Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate so when Shero got the GM job in NJ, his familiarity with Hynes from their time together in Pittsburgh led to Hynes being hired for his first NHL job as head coach of the Devils. And once you're in the NHL coaching fraternity, you'll always have at least a chance to get another head coaching gig. GMs prefer to stick with familiar, safe names. That's what Laviolette strikes me as. Plus, most NHL head coaches are similar in their tactics--heavy reliance on veteran players, preference in many situations for hustling, gritty players over fineese players, tendency to sit on leads, etc. Fan bases all around the league are complaining about their coach doing the same things nearly every other coach does.

why do they have to get through to panarin or zips. This is aebout getting through to the entire team, progressing the young guns, and playing as a 5 man unit With a modern day system.

uf everyone else buys in and bread and zips don’t that’s on them. Jay Leach has earned his AC job in Seattle and a possible head coaching job. It’s about take the team in the right direction if those two don’t then they won’t fit and ask for a trade out which is what we all want anyway.

The team won’t succeed in this iteration without getting the 2 top paid forwards to buy in 5v5. The rest of the team will fall in behind them.

Can we stop blinding believing twitter accounts of Rear Admiral and Jonny Lazarus on this shit? None of these idiots know anything about what’s going on. It’s embarrassing. Resident chicken little @EdJovanovski said rear admiral was a rock solid source and now we’re hiring Hynes based on what? A different hockey podcaster trying to get clicks? The only reputable source that reported anything was Mollie saying we were granted permission to interview. The fanbase is as to blame as the front office sometimes because even the idea of a player or coach is rejected before it even has a chance to pass/fail. Look no further than the 21 years that are going to get shoved out the door if the board got their way.

There is no "new shit."

The last new system of hockey was what... the left wing lock?

They are all variations or retread of some other system. And this is perfectly fine... as long as you have a system that works to the advantage of the roster you have.

What we don't want:
- Someone without a system or someone who has no idea how to implement/teach a system (Gallant, Quinn, etc.)
- These styles of coaches only work after the previous coach who was relatively effective at teaching their system gets fired.
- Someone who is just terrible. Usually this is limited to people who haven't held a Head Coaching position previously (Trottier springs to mind), these usually don't get rehired elsewhere.
- Someone who only knows one system and can't adapt that system to opposition strategies or current roster.
I have absolutely no problem hiring a retread coach.

Coaches get fired for a variety of reasons. That said, knowing why they were fired is important.

I would rather have Hynes than Laviolette. I remember Elliotte Friedman kept mentioning Nashville might make a change. He played with Drury at BU. Hynes doesn't come with his own version of Kevin McCarthy. The Rangers hire Hynes as head coach. The Rangers put Knoblauch on the staff. Hire a coach to help the defenseman. A young guy. The Devils and Nashville had young players on their team. Hynes had a good AHL record. His teams always won at least one playoff round. He inherited a mess in Jersey. Hischier and Bratt broke into the NHL under Hynes. Hall had his MVP season under Hynes. Coleman. Severson. Zacha. Jeannot. Carrier. Trenin. Tomasino. Novak. His teams in Nashville made the playoffs in his first two full seasons. They traded the entire team at the deadline and Nashville still nearly made the playoffs.

or you make the team and the real leaders buy in and either those two will fall in line or ask to be traded.

if they have a problem with the head coach hire bc he’s been as assistant like leach then it says a lot more about panarin and emo zibs not being right for the culture change.

“Since coming here, John Hynes, he’s probably given me the most accountability than any coach I had in Edmonton,” Hall added on Tuesday. “That’s been really good for me personally. In Edmonton, I didn’t really want to talk to coaches. I didn’t want to go and have dialogue with coaches. I just wanted to play and a lot of guys are like that. I think, here, Hynsie, we talk about a lot of stuff. He listens to what I say. He’s been a good sounding board on a lot of things. I think he’s been a big reason why I’ve been able to have some success.”

Some good points here. Not sure that I would be excited about it but it's worth it for Drury to interview every candidate regardless. Really just dont want Lavi because it feels like you can easily forecast how that goes with artemi/the other stars on this team who will continue to get away with bullshit ect. Hynes would be more of a wild card.

I mean, both Cassidy and Maurice lost their jobs a year ago and they're now facing each other in the cup final.

Coaches really aren't as big of a piece of the puzzle as fans think they are.

Face turn by RB was not what I expected lol. I saw that he is not afraid to cut ice time for veterans too. Believe he did it with Duchene and Johansen. His W-L and playoff results are bad but he maybe not as bas I thought on the surface.

I have a hard time seeing why it's such a task and issue for any coach to look at this roster and see two high profile young wingers and make them part of the core and lean on them just as much as the vets and get everyone on board with being a hard working team and give them some structure. How much imagination does it take.

Gimma Roy out of our available candidates. Been watching his team play since the Q playoffs and his structure is actually good, it's not the run and gun he was trying to use in Colorado.

Let’s look at what teams he had that made the playoffs. Nashville barely got in and then got curb stomped by Colorado. I believe the other was a NJ team that also shouldn’t have made it and got stomped as well. Even Scotty Bowman would have a losing record with those squads.

He made the playoffs with a rebuilding Devils team and Keith Kinkaid in goal haha
