That would make sense to me except the guy you quoted just said the best coach he played for. He didn't say his buddy claimed he was the best coach in the NHL.
Your first few sentences were legit counter-points. But my take is, if that dude really knows someone who did play for Laviolette, then his buddy has more first-hand experience with Laviolette's coaching than pretty much all of us.
That's not to say his statement has any more weight than that, but it did provide a first-hand perspective probably close to none of us have on Laviolette.
Gallant doesn’t last anywhere more than 3 years but yeah we’re all silly for wanting him to go because he can’t adjust for shitI’m sure you all think I’m crazy but firing Gallant is going to look awfully silly if the team simply replaced him with exactly the same type of coach( Laviolette) and then underperforms! Like laughable level of incompetence.
The only coach is even be remotely excited(?) about is Sullivan. He’s unlikely to become available but I do think he could be a guy to get this team over the hump.
I want Leach but if the choice is Hynes or Laviolette? I would go with Hynes. Drury and Gallant didn’t have a very good relationship. The GM and coach shouldn't be best friends but they do need to be on the same page. Drury and Hynes should be on the same page.Face turn by RB was not what I expected lol. I saw that he is not afraid to cut ice time for veterans too. Believe he did it with Duchene and Johansen. His W-L and playoff results are bad but he maybe not as bas I thought on the surface.
Tolvanen had no such trade value that Nashville had to waive him.If you will permit a Preds fan to share the generally accepted opinion on Hynes amongst our fanbase... he was absolutely stifling of the young talent. He much preferred tweener plugs.
He completely ran off Tolvanen, and Tomasino has regressed under him. Most of the credit for our young players success belongs to Karl Taylor(who many of us wanted hired).

Not sure Jeannot having a crazy high SH% and way over performing for a year, being a part of a trade that could go down as one of the worst in a while is a win for Hynes lolHow about Jeannot or Novak? Nashville received 5 draft picks for Jeannot. Novak ended up a being a top 6 forward for Nashville.
I wonder if the Rangers offered Laviolette the job but he hasn't decided yet. We know he has met with Drury twice. There are not too many leaks from Drury's office. I wonder if they are intentionally putting the Hynes stuff out there to press Laviolette to make a decisionI feel like if it was Laffy they'd have hired him already. They're waiting to see if Sullivan or maybe Keefe shake loose. If not, it'll be a new guy, probably Knoblauch
There is some truth to this. We are lusting over Sullivan but if you go to the Pens board they act like he is one of the worst coaches in the leaguenot saying this isn't necessarily true, but people need to keep in mind this is basically a criticism of every single coach that's been fired from a previous job. a big part of that probably has something to do with fan bases thinking they have some amazing young players coming up, and why the era under that coach failed was they never took off.
i don't know if i've seen any retread candidate where the book on them was how much they did for young players. we hired quinn specifically to work with young players and on his way out a lot of people criticized his work with them. like if we hired leach everyone would be thrilled because he has a solid reputation and he has no negative history to pick at, but 30 games in fans may already be on him if laf and kakko weren't thriving.
personally i would honestly prefer drury go with leach or a marc savard, and i really wanted brunette, but it's important to keep in mind the lack of negative history attached doesn't mean much for the future. though i really don't want him, hynes had tremendous success at the us program working with young players there and was a big part of why he was originally hired. now he has an nhl track record that hasn't gone well and this is the new narrative.
long story short, new is exciting because all we see is the upside and success at lower levels. that said, almost every coach got their first nhl gig with the same reputation coming in, and many very successful coaches failed multiple times before they found success.
Feel like Brunette/NYR was never gonna happen, given the Preds events.... This is all on Drury. He should have gotten Brunnette.
Friedman reported that Devils were not likely to allow Brunette to interview with division rivals. He probably wasn’t even an optionFeel like Brunette/NYR was never gonna happen, given the Preds events.
Original longtime Preds coach Trotz hiring the guy who scored the very 1st goal in team history.
Just cuz no one saw it coming dont mean it just developed suddenly
Didn’t we allow them to talk to Ruff? Or was he let go first? I’m not entirely sure but that’s pretty funny if they didn’t reciprocate hahaFriedman reported that Devils were not likely to allow Brunette to interview with division rivals. He probably wasn’t even an option
Expected given how their season went. There is some truth to this. We are lusting over Sullivan but if you go to the Pens board they act like he is one of the worst coaches in the league
A bit of recency bias on their part. The team has been poorly constructed and growing older every year. He was probably the main reason that series went 7 last year. He absolutely PANTSED Gallant in Pittsburgh games 3 and 4 with matchups on last change and completely altered their game plan and forecheck to counter our breakout and rushes up ice. The Rangers were a better team in pretty much every category but struggled because the Pens played a style that made the series difficult for them. There is some truth to this. Could be interpreted in a couple of waysMe: Peter Laviolette is frontrunner for the Rangers head coaching job
Wife: I don't like assholes
And she has no clue who Laviolette is

I agree. I would take Sullivan in a second. It's just funny that pretty much every fan base has the same complaints about their coach ( Not developing the younger players, falling in love with certain vets and not holding them accountable, etc.)A bit of recency bias on their part. Tolvanen should have never been waived. If Hynes had actually played him and let him play to his strengths he would have shown what Seattle has seen.I want Leach but if the choice is Hynes or Laviolette? I would go with Hynes. Drury and Gallant didn’t have a very good relationship. The GM and coach shouldn't be best friends but they do need to be on the same page. Drury and Hynes should be on the same page.
Laviolette was supposed to be the choice in Columbus. Jarmo decided to not make the coaching hire before going to Finland for the World Championships. Laviolette was supposed to be the choice in New York. Reportedly, Drury and Laviolette have met twice and Drury is still interviewing candidates.
The Rangers need a coach who will play the young guys. Hynes is more likely to play the young guys. Laviolette comes with big contract demands and his own personal assistant.
Hynes isn't married to his assistant coaches. Alain Nasreddine was his assistant in the AHL and in Jersey. Nasreddine is with DeBoar in Dallas. The assistant coaches were different in Jersey and Nashville. Laviolette and McCarthy have the same message when they hop from team to team.
Tolvanen had no such trade value that Nashville had to waive him.
How about Jeannot or Novak? Nashville received 5 draft picks for Jeannot. Novak ended up a being a top 6 forward for Nashville. Many young players take a step back after their first season but they rebound. The Rangers have had players like that and the Rangers usually have no patience with them.
