Drury has never had a long term plan obviously. At least Gorton understood the need to build for the future. F Drury.
It`s more and more starting to look like that. Drury clearly has no direction. Kane trade and this hire (if true) clearly shows that.

This last season was the biggest disappointment of a season in my 30 years as a fan and I must admit I still dont see the light at the end of the tunnell.

I've been watching since 1978 and, honestly, this was the worst I ever felt about a playoff series. I mean, the Rangers were banged up and couldn't score to save their lives in the LA final but I really felt like they were TRYING.

This group? Not so much and it was completely surprising and disappointing.

I think you are overreacting. Drury did have a plan, and on paper a good one. But it didn't work. The plan was to load up on players with records of playoff excellence.

Just shows that, even with the best intentions, thinks sometimes go wrong. I've been a fan for over 60 years and have certainly had my share (!) of disappointments. This is certainly is in the top 10, but honestly, I didn't have much confidence going into the playoffs.

I'm not in favor of hiring Laviolette but I understand the thinking: an experienced head coach who has had success. Yes, he has had a lot of failure too but the fact that he keeps getting hired says that on some level, he can coach.

Unless Laf and KK make a leaps and bounds improvement next year, I don't see us as a serious Cup contender. But, that's why, as they say, the play the games. We'll see. I would agree that Drury is on a short leash here and the jury is still out on him.

This is a very good point. I felt this team just didn‘t try, they did not test the rookie goalie enough, the skill was there, just didn‘t use it.

Usually when the Rangers fall short in the playoffs, I’m pumped for next season for them to go on another run and do better. I was like that when they made the ECF, was so proud of that group. Bought a season package, and was ready for Oct to roll around. Now, I don’t feel that way, maybe it’s just the longer layoff and them taking a huge step back? Hopefully will get some motivation as Sept draws closer.

I’m indifferent with the Laviolette hiring if it’s true, it’s more of a lateral move and it just feels safe and lazy. Will it address the 11.6 million dollar Elephant in the room? I really hope so. I get it, that Panarin is not the only one to point fingers at, but with that cap hit, he is the first one that comes to mind.

Should have kept Gallant and fired the assistants

please be Fake News
I've had some hockey insiders /friends of GG that told me Turk won't go anywhere without Kelly because of loyality as it was Kelly that got him the Junior coaching /Memorial Cup job in the Q league with Saint John . That move worked out quite well for both guys despite the firings .

caps were 1-8 when ovie was not on the ice. carlson and wilson were hurt most of the season. kuznetsov and backstrom both suck. if one wants to think like caps mgt and blame all of that on lav then so be it.

for those saying lav is a lazy typical ranger hiring move, that we should have out version of a cooper/bednar, it's just another lateral move, etc. the reality is very simple: he's the best available coach. he's won everywhere he's been. anybody going to deny this?

the guy doesn't suck.

Why does Lavi get **** on when Trotz is anointed this genius? Look at both of their track records in playoffs and regular season. I am serious. Lavi is a better regular-season coach, and in playoffs, they both have a Cup.
You know why. The Islanders lost Tavares for nothing the same offseason they hired Trotz. They made their first playoffs appearance in years off his system alone. Then they went to the ECF twice, only narrowly stopped by the salary cap-evading Lightning, again with little other than Trotz's system going for them.

On paper, Laviolette is not awful.

5+ seasons with three different clubs
3 Stanley Cup Finals
1 Stanley Cup Championship

That’s as good a resume of any candidate who hasn’t abused players or covered up sexual assault.

True, but he's also been past the 2nd round just once since 2009-2010, despite making the playoffs all but 2 of those years. 5 playoff wins over the last 5 years

Name 5 current NHL coaches with reliably great track records at developing young players and prospects:
