Cant wait until someone is hired and fans already angry about the season before it even starts. I wanna see if the fans can do better than said coach hired. Some of these fans need some lives. Go get laid or something. Nothing to get upset about. Let him suck as coach first before fans get on the new coach. Have some respect. I guess its how you were raised seriously lmfao

I’ll be happy with Laviolette but it would be a bit foolish to make a hire without knowing what happens with Sullivan and Keefe now that their GM situations are squared away. Lavi is twisting in the wind a bit but his only leverage is to go to Columbus instead. Sounds like a blast. Apparently he met with a he Rangers again today so who knows. I still get a weird spidey sense with Roy I don’t know why.

Drury and Laviolette gone after this season.

At best, wildcard with a first round exit. Please prove me wrong.
Keeping Gallant I felt this way. First round exit as a wild card matching up against Jersey again or Toronto.

Depending on who is hired, anything can happen. They can finish anywhere from 2nd in the Metro to missing completely. This team is an Igor or Fox season ending injury in November away from being in the lottery again.

He’s not even the coach yet and people are losing their shit lol. How about maybe waiting until this is confirmed before we burn the city down?

I say wait until he sucks. What if he comes here and we do well. People would still complain lol id wait until regular season before i complain about it. Some fans are gossip fans and do it for attention. Those fans are fake to me. All coaches are not perfect. Deal with it. He has a cup yea it was 20 years ago. What cup do those fans have? I wanna see the fans do better.

Imagine if Rangers announce Roy after his team is eliminated in the Memorial Cup. Would be funny using Laviolette just to snag Roy if he wants to come here. He and Drury have history. Or maybe Peter Forsberg as coach. I know he was GM in Sweden, didnt he coach before.

Don't you put that evil on us

I will bite. Why is John Hynes a bad choice?

Mediocre coaching record.

On paper, Laviolette is not awful.

5+ seasons with three different clubs
3 Stanley Cup Finals
1 Stanley Cup Championship

That’s as good a resume of any candidate who hasn’t abused players or covered up sexual assault.
My issue with him is he's tired. He was coaching the Yashin/Peca Islanders a lifetime ago.

The game has changed. He's not going to be here a long time.

We're trying to break the Adam Gase Jets record. That guy lost everyone at the press conference.

Can do worse than Laviolette. I’d wait until training camp and regular season before making judgment. He has a good resume. That cant be denied.

Laviolette would not be the way I'd go.

He's not the reason the Caps didn't make the playoffs though. They've been an aging team for a while and they were hit with devastating injuries all season long. I would point to that more than anything. Backstrom over half a season out....never was a real factor for them. Oshie missed about 25 games....struggled somewhat when he was in the lineup. Carlson missed over half the season with injury.....the guy who runs their power play for the backline and one of if not their best defenseman. Wilson--missed over half the season. Connor Brown hardly played last year and Hagelin never played at all and might never play again. And there were injuries to others but those were the main ones. But this guy missed 10--that guy missed 15. It adds up.

I'd have preferred Sullivan but no guarantees that's an option.

Laviolette's not the worst option out there. Given how poorly our board has reacted, it might even be a good thing. This board has abysmal record of getting things right, Gallant being the most recent example. They wanted Gallant. They turned on him in less than 2 years.

The majority of the posters on here have no clue- like are shockingly bad. The ones who turned on Gallant without any better viable options available are leading the charge.

Laviolete is a fine option but I’m pretty sure it’s going to make almost no difference. The roster is still slow, the Laf, Kappo duo are still underperforming, they have very little toughness…

Yeah, I remember seeing this before he was hired and it triggering me. It's sat in the back of my mind the entire time, even with Ovi defying all odds.

What'll be very interesting to me is how he handles a huge market like New York. I mean, it's not as vicious as other sports but I feel that's a different beast compared to even Philly, let alone Carolina, Nashville, or Washington.

He cut his teeth in the league with the Islanders. I get that is New York light but still New York.

After that playoff series Gallant had to go - whatever the options were or were not. It's not that they lost, it's how they lost. There's no road to recovery there with that coach.

Is Florida a "fast" team? As a coach you need to evaluate your roster and play to their strengths. Gallant was smashing a square into a circle.
