Speculation: Rangers Head Coach Search (Laviolette being finalized? According to Vince and Friedman)

This team disgusts me if hynes or lavi become head coach.

Drury doesn't like to surround himself with people smarter than him.

seems that way since his main coaching candidates are both trash is lavi and hynes.

we hire either o f them and to the bottom we go.

hopefully another rebuild in 3 years

AHL means nothing. He chased them all down to the minors. The caps play has steadily declined over each year he was there. Their young players don’t have anything yet to even be called up. So this is what we want?

Are you afraid that Lafreniere and Kakko are going to be sent to the minors or something? Both guys can play the heavy game Laviolette likes to play

I don't mind being able to 'dump and chase' and a coach that emphasizes forecheck.

I just want a guy that can teach the team how to breakout and transition as 5. Structure to get the puck out of our zone. Structure to get the puck. Structure to create space/scoring chances.

If Lavi can do that? Great. The major draw back is we haven't seen that from him, his players half assed it all season long. He overplays vets and benches kids. Why do we want that?

The most important aspects next season are winning and developing the young top picks. It's 1a and 1b. Can we look for someone that could cater to both? If it's Roy vs Lavi, you give Roy his 2nd look in the NHL. Or is Drury waiting for Quenneville to clear?

One aspect about this coach search worth mentioning...

They seem to be focusing on an experienced NHL coach because apparently we're close to winning and also perhaps we need someone with the gravitas to get the veteran core to buy in. Yet, most of us on here are more concerned with the under 24 crew that all need to take major steps forward to solidify the team now and going forward. Essentially, we're on the verge of hiring a coach that prioritizes solving the issues with the veteran core once again over developing the youth. 2 coach hires in a row prioritizing the vets when half the roster is still developing.

The angst and frustration and worry many of us feel is related to the Rangers focusing on solving one problem while the really focused portion of the fanbase is focused on the other.

We're stuck dealing with the fall out of Dolan and crew wanting to be competitive during the beginning stages of a rebuild. So, now instead of keeping with the times we're busy fixing the vintage sports car sitting in the driveway. Spending all our time finding some old ass coach who knows old cars.

Develop the kids and you have a solid foundation for a decade.

Focus everything on the vet core, go for it for the next 2-3 years...and start over with a bunch of poorly developed players entering their prime as the new core.

President and general manager Chris Drury said he wasn’t going to limit the team’s options to any specific type of style or experience level, which indicates the Rangers could really take this hire in any direction.

With Carbery off the board, the Rangers still have Jay Leach and Peter Laviolette as candidates they’re known to be interested in.

Leach would also be a first-time NHL coach if hired after serving as an assistant on David Hakstol’s staff in Seattle the last two seasons.

On the other hand, Laviolette is the safest and most established option.

I wonder if Trotz is gonna give some input or his twist on Brunettes system. May be the adjustment Brunette needs.

Voldemort would be a fine assistant but thats about it.

Also it doesn't sound like they've made a decision. RA is solid, but perhaps he jumped the gun here.

This is my thought. Schneider too. (and Othmann, Cuylle, Edstrom)
Also, the Caps play declined the last two years more because their star players are aging out than any other reason.

I have a hard time blaming the Caps' last few years on Laviolette. That is a team that really reached the end of the road after years of contending, losing assets and locking themselves in to aging talent that simply was not good enough anymore. All of their core players are old and exiting their primes. I don't think you can pin that on the coach.

Nothing illustrates the current state and the issues with it, better than this.

I really believe you need to define who you are and what you wanna be as a franchise. Everyone works towards making that mission statement work. We want to be a fast, forechecking team. We want to be a team that gambles a lot and relies on our goalie. Whatever it is.

This roster has no identity. The coaching didn’t either. And now we’re in “whoever wins me over is the winner” mode?

yes bc they are still kids. They are barely 23 years of age. So yes I see Lavy being more of the same bc he is that.

Why does Lavi get **** on when Trotz is anointed this genius? Look at both of their track records in playoffs and regular season. I am serious. Lavi is a better regular-season coach, and in playoffs, they both have a Cup.

Just curious, but why does the NHL coach qualifier matter for that person's opinion?

I played HS baseball, basketball and hockey, and hockey in college. My brother played HS football, baseball, and basketball, college football and basketball, and a journeyman career on 4 or 5 NFL teams.

We spoke on it long ago and I think we both commented our favorite/best coach may have been one of our childhood baseball coaches in either little league or pony-colt (sorry, not recalling which cuz we did little league and pony-colt in the 70s, and that feels like 47,000 yrs ago).

Does the most effective or favorite coach an athlete had necessarily need to be at a specific level?

My point was in order to judge him against other NHL coaches , wouldn't he have had to play with other NHL coaches, and not against high school and pee wee coaches?

Laviolette will be a hall of fame coach when his career is done regardless of what happens with the Rangers. People here dont even want to hear or acknowledge that the guy might know what the hell he's doing. We've played against his teams for years and they have always played the way we are begging for the Rangers to play. There wasnt even a clear better candidate out there. I'm sure we'd have given the Leafs Powerplay coordinator a long leash lmao
