This team made the ECF with Trouba as an absolute anchor for 8M.

Borgen making half of that, with the cap moving substantially higher over the next two years, it's good work.

You can play him on the 3rd pair at 4M if it gets to that. Right now, he's anchoring a 2nd pairing that is being asked to shut down teams.

And the way the contract is structured, he's easily moveable starting in year 2 of the deal.

But I guess people were hoping to give Gavrikov or someone similar a full NMC and twice the AAV.

BTW, if Borgen does fall off the face of the earth. He's paid 4M and has a movable contract. I just don't understand why people are so mad about this other than because they have no impartiality when it comes to Drury and are still mad about Kakko. Like, at its worst this deal won't be an anchor and is movable. The anger is completely misplaced.

Some of you guys just complain for the sake of complaining and don't know puck at all.

But yeah, this is a bit rich and a bit long. But LOL at "this is to justify Kakko" or "He's been a 6/7 his entire life."

90% of you guys had no idea who the f*** he was until a month ago.

And that's the problem. They didn't know who he was so now he's guarenteed to fall off the face of the earth because he's not a big name. That's the only rationale that someone can have.

There's literally no reason why people are up in arms over this deal based on his play rather than being angry about Kakko and the fact that Borgen isn't a big name defenseman. He has been good. Could they improve on him? Sure. But we just won a Presidents' Trophy with f***ing boat anchor Trouba on the second line and we got a steady and not spectacular defenseman that has steadied Miller's game. But people are up in arms over it. Why? If Drury didn't get him for Kakko no one would be upset over this. Oh and it's f***ing 4 million a year. How is that enough money to justify the anger? You'd think this was Trouba from 5 years ago.
Add to that some saying it was Borgen for Kakko straight up, which is not true.

The contract is almost irrelevant to me. It’s the process by which the rangers use to make roster decisions that bothers me more. I think the money is slightly above where it should be but it’s not egregious. Did Drury really have to hand out trade protection though? For a borderline 2nd pairing defenseman at best? It just boggles the mind. Well at least we have some idea of what the defense will look like going forward. IMO the right move is to look for a good LHD and use Schneider as a trade chip rather than moving him over but I doubt that’s going to happen.

P. sure it's been reported that there's protection on the contract too. Someone said NMC but idk if thats confirmed.
