Confirmed with Link: Rangers extend D Will Borgen

4.1 for Borg is a bit steeper then I expected, but not horrendous like in Trouba territory.Borg has really settled in and been a nice addition

There's literally no reason why people are up in arms over this deal based on his play rather than being angry about Kakko and the fact that Borgen isn't a big name defenseman. He has been good. Could they improve on him? Sure. But we just won a Presidents' Trophy with f***ing boat anchor Trouba on the second line and we got a steady and not spectacular defenseman that has steadied Miller's game. But people are up in arms over it. Why? If Drury didn't get him for Kakko no one would be upset over this. Oh and it's f***ing 4 million a year. How is that enough money to justify the anger? You'd think this was Trouba from 5 years ago.
If Drury didn’t get him for Kakko he wouldn’t have been in such a rush to give him a 5 year extension over barely 2 weeks of pretty good play.

It's a big contract on the high end in AAV for the player and comes with NT protection. I hope Borgen and Miller continue to fit like they have.

See- that's about .75 a year more than I think would have been wise, which was my concern from the get go. Now they're going to feel like thay have to play him on the second pairing when the team is competitive.
Drury likes to give extra in contracts and trades

Well, since he has been here they have certainly been competitive. And he has been playing the 2nd pair during that time, so…

If we're getting early Borgen or the Borgen of the last decent stretch, then fine. If we get the Borgen of the last few years, the contract was ugly the minute it was signed.

Didn't Brendan Smith's game fall off the face of the earth because he didn't take things seriously and not because he sucked. I know we memed the weight loss but if you gain weight as a hockey player and aren't that amazing to begin with it could make you fall off the face of the earth.

If he’s a number 4d who can play on the right side of a strong second pair with someone like Miller for the next 5 years, this is a great deal. If he turns into just a 5-6, it’s still fine with a rising cap. Think it’s pretty low risk, with a potential to be great, similar to Stralman’s contract with Tampa

Ahhhh yes, because we know this over how he extended Sammy Blais. An ACTUAL terrible trade.

What are we talking about here? 4 million dollars with the new cap is not that serious.

Let’s hope Borgen doesn’t have any weddings this summer …

Borgen was in demand around the league, and he has played well for us overall. Trouba is gone. Lindgren will be gone. Miller is playing better of late. People wanted the Rangers to remake the defense. Well, they're doing it, and they aren't breaking the bank on UFAs. We'll still have plenty of cap space to make moves.

I like Borgen and wanted to extend him. Had him in the $2.75-$3.5 range. This is still just a stay-at-home defenseman we are talking about. This just seems like serious overpayment for a small sample size.

If Borgen is getting $4.1 what is K’Andre Miller getting?

Miller was always gonna be in the 6 range as much as people overreact to his play sometimes

I know that Trouba was seen as a top pairing culture changing defenseman but Jesus I feel like when we signed him for 8 million we didn't get the venom that this is getting from some.

Borgen is currently making 2.7 and he's a pending UFA. I'm sure there's another team that would have offered him as much, if not more.
