It shows you exactly how ridiculous small sample sizes are. He had two really bad games, one bad game, and two good games, but because he got pulled in the two really bad games and it's only 5 games it looks like the sky is falling.
This is why individual bad games mean nothing to me. Zero. Great players go through funks. Plain and simple. Also the net front defense in games against St. Louis, Minny, and Jersey has been atrocious.

And you know this how?

I’m just saying, the narrative about Mess being an incompetent coach is a bit ridiculous when the league recycles the same losers over and over again. You have to be special to win a championship here. It doesn’t happen often. The guy ended a 54 year drought and gets so much **** from people. Talk about unappreciative. He’s probably laughing at all the people they’ve given a shot over an actual guy that can tell guys what it’s like to win here.

There must be a reason he has not gotten a HC gig yet. A lot of times great players do not make good coaches. One of the worst coaches we ever had was Bryan Trottier.

Gallant with his worst performance of the season. Panarin/Fox/Kreider/Strome also with backbreaking awful decisions throughout the game. Nemeth & Braun was predictably a train wreck and not calling a timeout in the middle of 5 straight goals was ridiculous. The Laf benching is annoying, not saying it wasn’t warranted, but it’s a weird message to send.

I thought the new guys looked really good and the 1st period is what I’ll choose to dwell on. Burn the rest. It’s also not uncommon for the Devils to do this to teams.

Igor stunk up the joint and was definitely shell shocked in the 2nd. Not overly concerned with him

Hopefully this is a wake up call to not drink their own Koolaid. They’ll learn from it

Winning a championship as a player and being a good coach are not the same thing. I think people would be a lot less averse to the idea if he went the coaching equivalent of the Drury route and worked his way up instead of wanting to get things handed to him on a silver platter.

The rangers team D is a problem.. G make 44 saves two nights ago amd Defense was horrible against one the best team in the NHL. Then we can’t even play defense against Devils..I think our top dmen are worn down and need to be given a night off..rotate our youngster in as well as move up Braun to 1st amd 2nd pairings..

Strome also played like a guy who knows the Rangers just traded for his replacement. I know Panarin got hurt but there was no intent by Sharangovich and the Rangers were regaining momentum. Selfish penalty to take by a supposed leader. Copp on the other had won a faceoff that led to a goal and got another A from the bumper position on the PP. imagine that from Strome?

Get Zac Jones back in …

Get Jonny the Broddy Brodzinski in over Laf / Hunt …

He lost his man on goals by the devils on back to back shifts, you may not like it but the coach sees it. I did think he was playing great before that. I also think it’s a bit dramatic to say Gallant singled out Laf because he also benched Reaves, who is probably his favorite player.

He also broke up a play like that earlier at least once. Which goals are you referring to? Was the rebound goal on the third goal on him? I thought it was Mika.

I'm incredibly far away from wanting to show Gallant the door like some in here, BUT, I will admit - a timeout after the 5th goal was needed.

But more importantly, what didn't I see with Laf that made him deserver that benching? I thought he was playing good - especially considering the the tire fire aka The New York Rangers tonight.

Don’t be so obtuse. He’s saying a 1 game lead is a 1 game lead, not set in stone either way and not worth a coin flip to him. Nothing crazy. You’re the one saying a 1 game lead might as well be 15.

How about you take a bet that we won’t make the playoffs if we’re such shit. Put your money where your mouth is.
No we're gonna make the playoffs, because of Igor and also because it's a near statistical improbability for them to miss at this point. But the team I saw tonight is going to be getting passed the Penguins. They are going to get their clocks cleaned.

A time out after they tied it 2-2 was needed, before it got away from them. When it was 5-2 the game was already over.
