i mean when it comes to a favorite theres a simple objective way to settle it...where does vegas have it? currently the books have the rangers very slightly ahead of the devils as a cup favorite. does that mean anything as far as who pulls it out? no. thats just where things stand today. that could look different in 20 games, will be interested to see how the rangers new pieces settle in and what they look like with this assembly once everyone is back in the lineup. will be interested to see how quickly meier settles in and what the devils look like with him. but as things stand today, the rangers would be slight favorites on paper. fans can sht talk all they want about each others lineup, theyre both good teams, the odds mean jack sht. but i could care less about running my mouth about whos going to win a month and a half before the series might start

I wouldn't doubt that Kane and whoever he's around look amazing together. Really. I'll bet it's a giant breath of fresh air into the lungs of a guy (Kane) who's managed to stay on top of his game and be competitive year after year. Obviously very elite skill that IMO will be fanned to flame again.

Devils top 6 is better (esp 5v5). Rangers bottom 6 is better (kid line are possession monsters). Defense is a wash (maybe slight edge devils). NYR gets nod with goalie. NYR gets a distinct advantage with special teams. It could come down to the PP. I think Rangers are slight favorite atm.

I have major respect for the devils. Their offense could skate laps around the Rangers defense. But playoffs are different, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Rangers win in 5 due to experience. People acting like Kane and Tarasenko are washed, pretty funny. Anyhow it’ll be an intense series.

If the Rangers defense tightens up and Shesterkin comes back to life, it’ll be over in 4. But that might be asking for a lot right now.

Don’t worry devils fans, it also wouldn’t surprise me if the Devils wax the Rangers as well. But man y’all have a nice future. Well he at each others neck for years to come.

How can we say that when we didn’t see Kane and Tarasenko have 10 games together. I don’t think Devils fans realize how dangerous that group will be. Rangers top 6, is f***ing nuts

Kreider — Zibanejad — Tarasenko
Panarin — Trocheck — Kane

That will pressure the Devils defense and goaltending.

Then we all know how the kid line performs in the playoffs. They’ve been great this season as well. Not a one hit wonder line.

You have guys have won cups between Kane, Tara, and Barclay.

Not taking away from the Devils core. But don’t underestimate the Rangers now that y’all are great. Devils lack experience. But we’ll see how the Rangers offense will gel. And they were pretty solid without Tara and Kane.

I think the devils first two scoring lines can dictate play 5v5. They are that proficient as two way units. With that said, I don't think the devils have an answer for the Rangers 3rd line. It's a bad mismatch. They could cycle us to death on our bottom pairing. Rangers power play is another big advantage. They will score every 1 of 3 or 1 of 4 power plays.

Devils top 6 scares me, they’re the perfect modern elite top 6 in todays hockey. I kinda enjoy watching them. Kinda of a psh when they score but it’s hockey porn. Haha. Just have to hope one line doesn’t go invisible or gets shut down, I think next season for the devils could be better, with a better third line and more experience.

Tatar-Hischier-Mercer have uncanny chemistry and they are all hounds on the puck. This second line is still a work in progress with Meier coming, but you have two shifty play drivers in Hughes and Bratt.

Rangers in 5. Jersey was a trash bottom 5er last year. I’m not convinced they suddenly have playoff success this year. There will be pain

Oh okay now that you list that third line, I suppose talking about top 6 has me assuming devils are weaker there. Haven’t caught many devils games. Will be intense.
Good luck!

Yes. Rangers have a distinct advantage on the bottom 6. Our 4th line has really dropped off.

As a neutral fan who hates the Rangers more their group is a lot more impressive. Especially in the playoffs where veteran players generally put out more than youngsters still getting the hang of it. Kane and Tarasenko in the POs could be absolutely lethal

This thread reminds me of last years playoffs when in almost every thread many people picked against the Rangers. Rangers will sometimes feel like they have home ice in both buildings. 😊

People are underestimating how good Vanecek has been this year.
He has a better Save % and GAA than Shesterkin this season. Yes, you read that correctly.
Devils also have a more potent offense than the Rangers, second best in the league for most goals scored.
They are a faster team with two elite lines and a very balanced defensive unit. Better coach, too.

Man the way Devils fans talk now you could swear they’ve won a round in the past decade

Does it matter who won what in the past?
We are discussing the present. Devils have been a vastly superior club compared to the Rangers these past 4 decades but we aren't dwelling on that. You may not know this but there was a span in the late 90s during the Gretzky days where the Rangers hadn't beaten the Devils in almost 5 years.
In fact, I don't even believe Gretzky beat the Devils once as a Ranger. Look it up.
Or the playoff sweep of 2006 which was a total statistical domination?

feels weird to dislike Rangers fans less because at least they are somewhat knowledge-able of the Devils due to how much the teams play each other. Some of the takes about both teams by other fans have been pretty wild.

anyway..

The series could really go either way and there are so many storylines that could playout

Hischier line shuts down rangers top line
Zibz unleashing the talent of Kreider and his new weapon Tarasenko
Bread and Candy Kane Sandwich recipe on page 6
Boyz2men
Big Bro Meier turns Hughes into a monster
Devils bottom six causes mayhem
Hamilton goes Ham
What does the Fox say
Shesty takes multiple bullets to the chesty to win the game.

Devils in 3. In all seriousness, I know the additions of tank and kane are nice on paper, but are they going to suddenly learn how to play d in the playoffs? I can just see the devils top 6 skating circles around them.

Regardless, the devils and rangers both being good and meeting in the playoffs is great for hockey despite how jumbled our stomachs will be the entire series.

Rangers should’ve lost in 5 against the Pens and faced backups nearly the entirety of the first two rounds. Let’s not act like they waltzed through the first two rounds.
