Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Devils | 2/5/13 | 6 Goalie System Brah!

I don't think they played all that bad...

I thought the power play just killed them...their inability to do anything at all is just killing this team.

And i felt that Uncle Daddy played one of the best games ive seen from him in a long time.

It happens.

If Miller and Kreider can bring that effort night in and night out, they belong in the lineup. Question is, who is the odd-man out?

And why in the world was Bickel playing with Gilroy? (Even if it was for only 3:42) Not to say Bickel is the reason they lost, but man, that pairing has disaster written all over it.

I think it's clear that the Rangers are suffering mightily from not having a training camp. To have such a turnover of forwards over the summer, it was to be expected, but the problem is that they don't have the time to lose games like this. I believe they can turn it around, they just need to get on a streak to get their confidence up.

Torts is right, some guys just are playing too tentatively, not enough urgency and speed in their game. Passes are too limp dicked, too many little flip passes and not enough hard, accurate passes. Too many blind passes. Too many guys skating the puck into the zone and then just slowing it down and dumping it behind the net. Too many shots passed up because they think they can make just one more pass to the perfect open player (that's never open). Players need to start driving to the net and putting strong shots on goal instead of flailing at the puck and generally looking like they're half assing everything

Brodeur was infuriating today. I was yelling at the TV most of his saves.
I don't think Hank played bad, but I do think playing Biron in back to back games may help bring back the 2011-2012 Hank.
I do think Hank has set pretty high standards and that might be the reason some people think he's playing "bad."
For those of us old enough to remember, think of the names Mike Dunham and Guy Hebert, and in a way a 19 year old Dan Blackburn with 5 inept defencemen in front of him...there is your definition of bad. Hank is playing average

About sums it up.

Reading this board is the most frustrating thing after Rangers losses.

We were without our captain and our best defense man.

Relax.

Cally should be on a line with Miller and Kreider when he comes back.

Don't forget that we no longer have Rupp.:sarcasm:

Average for your superstar franchise goaltender is terrible.

People will look at the stats and say Richards is producing, but I think he's been terrible.

Nash has been exciting to watch, but even with 7 points in 9 games, if this is as good as it gets than it was a mistake to deal for him.

Gaborik, as others have pointed out, is doing his invisible for 8 days, score a hat-trick, then disappear for another 8 days act so far this year.

Del Zotto just seems like he's got sand and stones for brains. Some of his decision making baffles me.

Hank has been rough so far. No excuses. Literally, no excuses. He hasn't been good enough.

The third pairing is a joke that needs to be resolved and put to rest. Something's gotta happen there.

It's a one game knee jerk reaction but with the way Boyle has played this year I'd be fine with sitting him for Kreider or Miller. Problem is that you lose the one thing he's good at...PKing

If Callahan comes back Thursday I'd shake things up a bit and go with something like

Hagelin-Richards-Nash
Gaborik-Stepan-Callahan
Kreider-Miller-Pyatt
Powe-Halpern-Boyle

The "big line" just isn't cutting it now, they get trapped in their own zone too much and are too likely to make too many passes and turn the puck over offensively. Could even switch Callahan and Pyatt if you don't like that setup.

edit: I think the problem with the big line and sometimes the power play is that everyone expects the other guy to make the play, but the other guy is always trying to pass the puck but doesn't have anything to pass too because everyone is standing around waiting for something to happen

Stralman played 22:59 and was a +1.

McDonagh played 24:39 and was 0.

Miller +1 in 14:25.

Kreider Goal +1 in 10:35.

Hagelin with another penalty but otherwise was good again.

Gilroy believe it or not...wasn't on the ice for a goal allowed. Again. Played over 10 minutes.

Everyone else? Garbage. Pure and utter garbage.

This is not a team.

I really want them to compliance buy out Richards in the summer. He's starting to decline. Its painful to watch. We would be stuck with this for 7 more years.

Trade Gaborik's ass while he still has value. Same old disinterested Gaborik. Lazy POS only shows up when he feels like it.

A big problem with the PP is losing the first face-off. We ALWAYS lose it and that kills 20 seconds off the clock, then we have to transition into their zone on the PP, usually dump and chase where we lose the puck and can't set up.

Also, these players need to take it upon themselves to fix the PP. Ignore Sullivan. They're NHL players, they know they need to move. They can't stay stationary and pass around the perimeter. When has that EVER worked on a PP at any level of hockey?

Hopefully JT continues impressing the coaching staff and shifts Boyle to either 3rd wing or 4C. He was also in the doghouse tonight. Girardi needs to be back on Thursday. The first line needs to split up. Richards needs a wake up call. The pass to CK was nice, but other than that, he was horrendous. Stepan needs to play like he did in Tampa. Way too many players not on top of their game right now.

I thought Gabs, MDZ and the PP were putrid tonight.

They had chances they couldn't bury in the 2nd that could have made it a different game.

As for Miller, I thought he was good in the first (Adrenaline?); ok in the second and so so in the third. Not bad for a first game but Torts shouldn't have put him out there with Kreider and Richards.

One thing I did love is Kovalchuk is absolutely going through the motions here to start the season and if it continues much longer the "does he even want to be here" comments start because he is dogging it big time since he decided to return half way through camp.

Devil fans were crowing how he'd be in such great shape and have his timing would be better than everybody else's because he was tearing up the KHL but it's starting to look like he left his heart back in St. Petersberg and that isn't a good thing when you have 13:facepalm: more yrs on the deal!

Maybe he's sulking after being embarrassed having a 38 yr old role player named Captain and rightfully sees it as a slap in the face but everything he did screamed "me first" in how he handled the whole coming back thing so he has no be to blame bt himself for not bing looked at as the leader of that team.

And no Johnny Mac to blame for Kovalchuk being a dog when they need him to step up in Zachs absence yet again so it will be fun watching all the bending over backwards devil fans make for this guy being everything Lou used to be against as far as the individual above the team.

He's awful. He is declining hard. He doesn't give enough ****. He's just going through the motions. Collecting his big paycheck.

Zero accountability. Tortorella still showers him with ice time that is not warranted.
