Georgiev first star for not literally shitting his pants on the ice.

Kakko should’ve shot at the end. They were all trying to get it to Panarin for the hat trick when Kakko had an easy goal/point right there for him.

The 4th line is legitimately good. Ryan Reaves is 10x the NHL player that Brett Howden was, even at his age. Hunt has been really good too and Rooney obviously is the best player on the line. I love that unit.

Obviously a shit start to the game but the last 35 minutes or so we were far and away the better team.

Me: *Has high hopes for Lafreniere*

Lafreniere:

I’m defense of Laf, that line is basically purgatory as far as this lineup is concerned. Just go out there and don’t do much of anything. Gauthier gets a chance a game just based on his speed but other than that not much going on in either end with them on the ice.

I think maybe they should try him on the right side again with Kreider and Mika. If not, they have to get him PP time and maybe mix in some time with other line mates. He’s certainly not going to breakout just playing 5v5 only with Goodrow and Gauthier. Although I don’t think he’s been bad, just kind of blah.

But that's exactly it. It's blah. He's done nothing impressive. Like, ever.

I would rather he be actively bad but clearly oozing talent.

I don't think the AHL could hurt at this point.

Goodrow and Gauthier are not a problem. Lafreniere has mostly been a passenger. He was better today. He seemed to be a bit more willing to battle and skate. Gauthier has been hitting and skating. Goodrow has been fine. The problem with Lafreniere has been Lafreniere. But he was better today.

By the way for everyone so horrified by Mika’s start he’s got 13 pts in 14 games AGAIN 10 of which were on the road. He’s fine he’ll get white hot too

see this is like, why we want the kids on the PP. Mika has been hot goat turd but is basically PPG. If we had Laf and Kakko stapled on there, without all these stars blocking, they'd be cruising with .666Pts/gm

This has been my complaint since early on. I distinctly remember multiple games early last season watching Rooney or Di Giuseppe make fast, skillful rushes through the NZ and thinking “oh, there’s Laf. Wait. Oh f*** that’s not him”.

You’d think the kid would at least be able to carry the puck for more than 2 seconds. All he does is chip and lazily chase, circle around, and skate off. There is NOTHING there.

Enough of that though. Laf is literally the only thing to complain about tonight. Shesty didn’t play his best and they bailed him out. Good team game.

and if they were drafted by a bad team without star players that’s where they would be picking up a lot of their points no question

Who sits when Chytil gets back? At this point it has to be Laf.... awkward scenario for Gallant.

It hasn't been talked about much but I like Blais on the top line... Still think Kakko would work best with Kreider.

I'm sure that's what management is telling themselves. "Their play at 5v5 on both ends of the ice is how we're going to judge these players' development"

but then there will come a point where that won't be good enough anymore.

Missed the entire game.

What’s the summation? Another game they won by the grace of god?

Horrible first period where CBJ skated circles around the team, Panarin with a bit of magic to keep it 1-1. Then the Rangers took over for two periods and didn't really give the Blue Jackets a chance, even if the Rangers still didn't play that well. The final 5-6 minutes seeing out the game was impressive, you could see that's where a lot of the work this week went into.

I’m not horrified but I’m certainly not satisfied with his play. He has been playing peek-a-boo hockey for a while. He shows flashes. And he actually had some decent shifts today. But mostly he has been unwilling to get his hands dirty.
You’re right, he’ll get hot eventually. Hopefully soon.
