Adam Fox plays 3D chess while the rest of this league plays checkers. The fact that every NHL team passed on him at least twice in his draft tells me every single scout in the NHL at that time should be selling used cars because they couldn't spot a hockey player to save their lives.

One key to Hunt’s success is his skating. He gets in fast to retrieve pucks or tie defenders up. He then follows it up with his strength. He has strong legs, shields the puck so well.

I thought he was pushed in by our D....but that's just me....somebody explained it well in another reply on these goalie brushes . If somebody starts throwing randomly on a guy who was pushed in...suspensions will follow especially on a guy like Reaves . He has to pick his spots unfortunately .
Absolutely correct on this, Nemeth pushed the CBJ player into Shesty, though I thought that player made no attempt to lessen the contact. Kreider did the exact right thing and the ref allowed the policing. But it’s comical by some on here that think Reaves should just jump over the boards and pummel a guy. Nobody wants to fight him but he will drop them when the time comes

Honestly, i'd put Goat in over Reaves. He is the least effective on that 4th line and Goat has been throwing his body and forechecking hard since coming back in the lineup. And on top of that, he can actually skate. Never gonna happen though unfortunately.

I like Reaves' attitude and what I guess he brings to the lockerroom (?), but sometimes I think i'm taking crazy pills when I read about how many people on here absolutely love the guy. He does not look very effective out there to me. Can't skate, plays the puck like a handgrenade and when he gets a tap in in front of the net, he can't finish. Hunt and Rooney really drive that line.
What game were you watching??? Reeves led the team with hits and his forecheck was effective as usual. The flavor of the day, Gauthier, shows up 1 shift out of 3 and throwing his body around, huh?

Ultimately, I am still far from as concerned as many others.

Sure, we have issues and sure, some are structural (lack of speed at center ice) but many are just about getting on the same page and executing better.

We hang our Ds out to dry way too much, as a result. But remember, we also 50% of the ice time 5 on 5 do not make any mistakes at all trying to be too fancy or making high risk passes. Nothing like that is taking place when our 4th and 3rd are on the ice.

Gallant is probably fairly relaxed to be honest. We do the most fundamental right things to win games. Our depth lines takes a lot of shifts and keeps it simple when that is needed. Our goalie is hot. Our top guys may not be playing well, but they are putting up pts. We contain the top lines of other teams fairly well.

I elect myself as general secretary of the dryden hunt fan club.

he's just an outrageously good forechecker. i dont understand how the 4th line is basically always on the attack no matter who they are against.
Ripping off the blue shirts breakaway podcast, but guys like Dryden hunt are why good teams don’t sign depth pieces like Goodrow to long term expensive deals. Goodrow may be slightly better but you can always find comparable players as ufas like hunt or Rooney for cheap and save the cap space for difference makers.

Goodrow and Hunt are nowhere near the same level players, Hunt’s defensive play isn’t in the same stratosphere as Goodrow. Plus the last time I checked ,Hunt doesn’t take and win face offs. Hunt is who he is, an energy 4th liner, a dime a dozen player, yet an important piece to an overall roster

I partly agree and partly disagree. The way it is looking, Kakko and Lafreniere aren't coming anywhere near big $ on their next deals, and this was supposed to be what was ultimately going to put the Rangers in a cap crunch. I think they have plenty of cap space at this point. It doesn't mean be careless with the cap, but they've already chosen their big ticket guys for the next 4+ years. Goodrow at 3.6 is a blip on the radar.

That 4th line with Fox and lindgren on the ice was awesome for us. Great on the cycle, Fox making sure the players always have an outlet to the point whenever they needed it. We had our best sustained o zone pressure 5v5 from that line.

they’re not terribly skilled but they’ll get some greasy goals. More importantly, they won’t be playing in their own zone.

Yeah, and this shouldn’t be underrated. There have been many 4th lines on great teams that has been great — but they have also had a Norris candidate on the blue line most of the time. Many coaches roll their 4th basically double shifting the top pair.

Hunt and Rooney drive the forecheck for that line. Don't think the puck was on Reavo's stick more than 10 seconds total the entire game. That's not forechecking, it's chasing. And hits are good, but the statline can be deceptive. There were a few "checks" that were little more than love taps.

I don't have an agenda against Reaves and physical hockey, I just haven't seen him play particularly effectively. I think Goat has brought more since being put back in the lineup. We have been bitching that he needs to be more physical and he has been. Seems like message received, we should be celebrating that.

Kerr scored 34 pp goals in one season. Let's dial it back a little.

That Flyers team he played on was stacked from top to bottom. Kreider would net 20 PPGs in that era as well.

I don't see the comparison at all, however. Kerr was basically a giant statue with phenomenal hands who just stood in front of the net. Kreider skates like the wind & gets in on the forecheck; kills penalties etc.

Just finished the game, so sharing some thoughts:
  • Leetch is around the 20-25th greatest defenseman of all time, his peak & prime are a bit higher than that (possibly top 15 of all time), and I legitimately feel that Adam Fox is at that level right now. It’s absolutely insane. Granted, Leetch in the 94 playoffs is arguably the highest level any defenseman has reached who’s not named Bobby Orr, and we haven’t seen Fox do it come playoff time (yet), but even still - it’s dawning on me that we might be watching the greatest Rangers defenseman, and possibly the greatest Ranger period, of all time.

  • Best game of the season from Trouba. This is the player I thought we traded for. He needs to play like that consistently and it completely changes the outlook of our D (not that he's been bad at all this season, but he was a game changer last night).

  • K’Andre is playing with more confidence with the puck too. There was one play where he had it on the LW while the Rangers were in the middle of a change and instead of just putting a duck on net, he carried it around the net and bought some time to set up a trailer...small plays like that make a huge difference.

  • Love what I'm seeing from Lundkvist. He had a couple rough shifts/giveaways but by and large was fantastic with the puck and making outlet passes.

  • 4th line was the star of the night IMO. Love Dryden Hunt. Rooney has had an amazing season so far too. If Reaves plays like that and actually cycles/helps keep puck possession and gets pucks to the net, there’s no reason for him to come out of the lineup

  • I wasn’t sure I’d love Kakko with Panarin and Strome (Kakko is a player who needs puck possession, so I thought he might be better suited with Kreider & Zibanejad who need the puck on their sticks less) but in general I like how it’s working. He’s the defensive conscience of that line and there are times where his cycling and puck possession have helped buy time for the other two. He’s going to break out soon, I can feel it, I just hope he doesn’t keep getting jostled from line to line.

  • Laf continues to be mediocre, but this is a case where I legitimately feel like you need to force feed him minutes. I don’t care that he hasn’t “earned” it, he’s a #1 overall pick and he needs to get special treatment. I’ve always thought he and Zibanejad had good chemistry, but obviously don’t want to break up Zibanejad and Kreider. I don’t like Kreider on the RW, but maybe Laf should get a look at RW there?

In theory, what I’d want to see:
Panarin-Strome-Laf
Kreider-Zib-Kakko
Blais-Chytil-Gauthier/Goodrow
Hunt-Rooney-Goodrow/Reaves

But given Kakko is playing well where he is:
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Kreider-Zib-Laf
Blais-Chytil-Gauthier/Goodrow
Hunt-Rooney-Goodrow/Reaves

Krieder has a bizarre skill set. He skates like the wind but doesn't do anything notable off the rish except crash into goalies. All his best work is done standing still in front of the goal.
