Wow Rangers with a great waiver claim, no risk and good upside. Too bad this is the completely wrong environment for this kid to find his game again. Don't see this working out at all here. Happy to eat crow as always.
"Completely wrong environment"? I don't get it. The Rangers have plenty for their bottom lines depth. I'm pretty sure they put in a claim not to try turning him into another one of those.

Situation is pretty similar to Eeli Tolvanen. They play different games, but both were higher draft picks, with some talent, that showed early success with their respective clubs / affiliates. Seemed to wear out their welcome quickly and ended up on waivers.

Who knows how it turns out, but you don't normally see guys drafted that high show some success and then waived at such young age.

Do you think Kakko earned extra 2 min that he’s been getting from Kraken with their top players while producing on exactly the same per game pace as here? No, but he’s getting his chance to proof himself (and Rangers wrong). Kaliev should get the same look see chance here from the coaching staff and it will be on him to take advantage of it. Is it possible - yeah let’s hope so and if not - he’ll be off to whatever next destination.
Was a heavy duty scrum last night in Seattle game and I think Kakko was fully involved in it started by a Signalthelar spelling LOL....hit from behind ....Devils are a dirty team.....and Bastien was in on the scrum . I was impressed to see KK gloving some punches . I fell asleep for the 3rd period.

Doyle's the one I think that had problems with the law----just looked it up because I thought it was a rape charge. When he was 19 he got into an altercation with a 21 year old girl---broke her nose and she had lacerations on her face and he smashed up a computer. After that his career kind of hit the skids.

To go further with the story. That happened in 2009 and in 2010 he was before a judge. Turns out Doyle had gone to an ex girlfriend's house and he was drunk and he had an argument with her and smashed her laptop. Apparently his ex-gf had a friend with her and as Doyle left the apartment he slammed the door and the friend was in the doorway and got the door in her face and that's where the broken nose comes in. So in court Doyle pleaded guilty to a destruction of property for the laptop and the judge struck down the assault charge though he did call Doyle as asshole.
WOW....15 yrs ago . Time flies . Likely near the time we drafted Antoine LaFleur goalie ......Rangers always drafted someone from left field !

we can do chicken egg with "kakko never showed he deserved a real role" - "kakko was never given a real role," but what you wrote and what I responded to wasn't about his p/60.

you denigrated his defensive game by pointing to a lack of deployment on PK - something over which he has absolutely no control. I responded by pointing out the hypocrisy of that argument given you *have* demanded Laf get more PP time.

the fact that you conveniently ignored this winning point surely puts a tally in my column. that brings the score to:

23,588 - noncents
4,276 - kakko
3.112 - kreider
541 - bern
87 - strome
3 - mcranger
2 - nemeth
0 - RF1994

I definitely have more than 3

Someone mentioned it, but hopefully he can regain form and be a productive player in the mold of a Toffoli

I 100% don't care if a guy takes a ton of shots and is a volume shooter if he has a "good" shot as long as he's not the centerpiece of the offense and we're not paying him stupid money

Shoot away, son.

Yup. Picked off the waivers yesterday, absolutely no practice time or anything resembling normal game preparation but it’s “odd” that he’s not playing today. smh
Most players would get plugged in the day after. Give him mostly pp time then since that's his specialty and we need help there and limited 5 on 5. Don't syh at me buddy .

IDK we're not exactly in the thick of a playoff race where we need a contribution from him immediately. I don't see any issues with giving him time to get acclimated.

Im gonna disagree here. As much as we have sucked. We are still in the thick of the race.

We are 4pts out only. It feels like 20 out, but its still only 4pts

We're not? Lol
I'm not saying Drury is waving the white flag but the guy shipped out Trouba and Kakko for futures and fringe players, and would probably ship out other guys if a good deal came around. Doesn't exactly appear that the front office thinks much of our current chances. We've literally been the worst team in the league over the last 20 games.

Even then, if you believe we're in the race, seems unlikely that Kaliyev is going to step right into the lineup and move the needle. He's a longer-term investment IMO.
