Agree with this. The system we employ is such a joke.

1. Draft best goaltender in the league.
2. Employ 5 man collapsing defense.

Yea I've said this a bunch of times. We should be trying to get into track meets. Trying to have odd man rushes back and forth. Instead we give our goalie help that he does not need and it just stymies our offense.

Once they buyout Beaver, slat will bring in another FA bust....... NEVER ENDING CYCLE.

Yeah and we give up a bunch of chances either way.

So we fire him one year after almost making the Cup finals after a series that has been razor thin the entire time?

I would like to see him change up his style a bit. But he's not going to be fired.

razor thin? did you watch this game? i didn't even know the capitals had a defensive zone.

Can somebody post Lundy's quotes from tonight? Not seeing them anywhere and didn't watch the post game.

Lundqvist is the team. Lundqvist carried the buffoon; not the other way around. 8 seasons for this? He's earned that right.

I actually find robotic, vanilla "yes, men" to be more of a poison than the actual backbone of this team.

Wrong.

You are just flat out wrong. Period.

If Lundqvist believes he is bigger than the team, than he is part of the problem and not part of the solution. He'd be a prima donna to the fullest. But, as I said, I don't really believe he comes off that way (thankfully).

I have no idea how you can possibly think that this would be a good thing to have happen. It just blows my mind. You follow football. Did you conveniently forget how cancerous the Tiki Barber and Tom Coughlin situation was with Barber poisoning the team against him? How can you possibly think a guy with that viewpoint is good for anything but failure?

Gaborik > Nash.

Gaborik, with a torn labrum in his shoulder, was able to produce more and score bigger goals when it mattered.

Nash is showing the NHL community why he has never been successful when he is "the guy" on his team.

Absolutely invisible the entire series.

Skates into the zone, turns his body, either turns over the puck or gets off a weak back hand.

I wasn't a fan of the Nash trade to start, wasn't a fan of moving Gaborik and giving Nash full reigns of the team, and I think my concerns have been validated by this series.

This is another game where the team lets Lundqvist down. We registered 9 shots in a 45 minute span. No chances in the 2nd and 3rd, we forced Holtby to make a few solid saves in OT, but I'm getting sick of the quality chances and majority of play in our zone.

Capitals deserve to be on top in this series. They've outplayed us four of the five games. They've shown they're vastly superior to us.

razor thin? did you watch this game? i didn't even know the capitals had a defensive zone.

We won the first, OT was razor thin (truly awesome hockey). We got beat in the 2nd and 3rd. Overall, the game was pretty close. Hard to call a 2-1 OT loss when we were winning for half the game anything but razor thin.

You better believe more than anything, he wants a cup. I'm sure he loves NY, and it wouldn't surprise me if he is a lifer in Manhattan. But if he gets an opportunity to go to a team that can average more than 2.3 goals/game (just an estimate, but I'm fairly certain it's accurate) in the playoffs for him, he's going to go there to end his career if things don't turn around in NY next season.

I don't want to have to trade Henrik when he's 35 to a contender at the deadline. I want his cup to come in NY.

Worse.

Since 05-06, the Rangers have averaged 2.06 G/G in the playoffs. The only two years that they scored < 3 G/G were '07 and '08 — Jagr led teams.

That's why I liked the play in OT. It was back and forth odd-man rushes and fast breaks. We need more of that. I completely agree.

I don't know if it was just a coincidence, but we looked like a MUCH better team with Clowe in the lineup. This looked like the same team from games 1-2 again.

Clowe is a big part of our success. I hate not having him in the lineup. This team is so soft without him. Olesky was running his mouth the rest of the game after Clowe was taken out.

To be honest I saw this coming...Rangers cannot score on the road. They score quickly and then play submissive the rest of the game. Henrik plays much better when he has to, I.e. when he has next to no goal support.

Top players not being the best players. A major problem....championship teams don't have this issue.

Wearing out certain players in favor of rolling all lines, not sustainable. Doesn't help missing key guys but good teams work past that.

Not willing to make in game adjustments, recipe for a loss.

Killing momentum with their putrid, listless power play game after game....just kills me. Score on one of those PPs, make it 2-0 at the end of the first, would've gone a long way.

I truly believe this roster could win a championship, the talent is there. Just sad to see it be wasted. They'll probably win Game 6, but I don't see them going much further with these issues.

No no no. These stats are disproving everyone's theory that Lundqvist sucks in the playoffs and is the reason that the Rangers lose.

Please post stats that say that we score >3 GPG like the Penguins. We need to talk about how deep he plays in the net. Not about how the team in front of him can't do jack ****.

Also, good thing we ran Gaborik out of town and built around Nash.

You want soft? That's soft. A big guy just disappears. Power forwards are not meant to be invisible.

Chimera is also the reason you need a Colton Orr type.
Power needs to work to stop them from taking liberties,

We need real depth in our forward lineup. The only forwards we have with any prayer of creating offense in our lineup are Brassard, Zuccarello, Stepan, Hagelin, Nash, and Callahan. And Nash and Callahan are no showing.

Richards, Pyatt, Boyle, Dorsett, Asham, and Powe can't create. Clowe has been injured, but he looks like his best days are behind him too. We've got too many plugs out there.

It doesn't help that none of our defensemen have really developed an offensive presence at this point.

The depth is all on the taxi squad or overseas. Guys like Kreider, Miller, Lindberg, Fasth, St. Croix, etc.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing Miller and Kreider next game. Miller can play center and Kreider can help, but not gonna happen with Torts.

Brutal loss. Other than the first period and a few minutes afterward, they didn't play a good game. Almost seemed like, yet again, they stopped playing after the early goal. I almost don't want them to score early anymore... always seem like they just sit back after the first goal and it ****s up their effort for the rest of the game.

Boyle took a stupid penalty. No denying that... but, since we've got Boyle reactionaries up in here....

Things that were more responsible for losing this game than Boyle:

- Offense's inability to score a second goal.
- Refusal to forecheck hard after the first 10-15 minutes of the game.
- 0 goals for Nash in 5 games.
- 0 goals for Callahan in 5 games.
- Abysmal power play.
- Stupid mistakes on the PK.
- Hagelin continues to fail to be able to finish on breakaways. Second game in Washington this series in which he had a breakaway when the Rangers were leading 1-0. He doesn't score. Game would have been completely different if he does in both games. He is driving me insane with his inability to finish on breakaways.
- Rangers continue to be god awful on the faceoffs in away games in this series... 41.6 % tonight. And seemingly failing more in some of the more important faceoffs.
- I love Zuccarello's vision... but he is simply not built for playoffs. His size really makes things difficult for him in this new season. He is being given zero room to be creative and is just getting pushed around in this series. It has been consistent throughout.
- Losing Clowe early in the game. Big loss, shortened the bench further. Didn't allow the Rangers to keep up a physical game that they undoubtedly wanted to keep up. Also impacted the PP, since he would have likely been a part of one of the units. Not a coincidence that he leaves and their play suffers. Just having to deal with the shuffling lines that result from losing him really hurts the forwards in and of itself.
- Hate to say it... and I don't really blame Hank for either goal -- but Hank needs to stop one of those goals if this team is going to have a shot at winning a Cup. As we discussed earlier today in the GDT -- he needs to find another gear in the playoffs. He has made some amazing stops in this series; but has not been consistently a game breaking goalie. This just has to happen. He has been very good, but very good is not enough (though this was the least of the issues tonight).
- Fail refs actually calling the penalty on Boyle, not getting Ribeiro for what he did to draw it, and missing a myriad of others (again, this was the least of the issues tonight).

All of that said -- none of those are meant as excuses. The entire team simply has to be better. No other way to say it.
