I think being sent down again this year lit a fire under his ass more than anything. Kreider didn't exactly play well in the AHL last year. He dominated this year, though. Completely different player.

I credit Torts 100% for Stralman, though.

so much this. Stralman has to be one of the most underrated D-men in this league. I love the guy.

Kreider's deal was 100% confidence. He wasn't even playing well in CT. He needed some time to grab the bull by the horns and play like the kid most of us knew he could be. I couldn't be happier with him right now.

Boyle is a very solid hitter. He finishes his checks and follows through and is one of the most prolific hitters of any forward in the league. He isn't out there putting guys through the boards, but he makes very good tactical decisions when to hit and hits often.

And his hockey IQ isn't terrible at all. He doesn't have great offensive instincts, but his IQ is fine in the neutral and defensive zones.

This Boyle hate is hysterical.

Same thing could be said about the Hank bashing...

This Brian Boyle I can take. The Boyle of a few weeks ago..... No good.

To hate on Boyle after this game is honestly missing the mark. He can't do much more as a fourth line player than what he did today. Hating on any player for that matter, after today's game is comical!

We won 5-2!!!

To clarify, I have no problem with anything he did today. If anything i feel bad for him because bieksa is the true POS in the situation.

Sure. There are about three guys who are just way too hard on the guy.

I'm an equal opportunity basher. If Boyle plays like crap, I'll say so. If Hank does, I'll say so. Some guys on here have weird agendas with certain players and it's pretty obvious when the agendas come out.

Good win. Props to Dorsett for standing up. Ride Talbot for a bit, it seems the team plays better with him in net.

If "all of our forwards [knew] how to do that," then we would have a team full of Selke candidates. Nash would be winning it every year when you combine his offense in with the supposed amazing defense he must possess.

No one is saying he's a good offensive player. It's cute that you ignore the rest of his game, though.

Keep drinking that haterade.

Did you just compare boyle's defense to selke caliber? :biglaugh:
His "defense" is nothing special. He's good, He's not pavel Datsyuk, get a reality check.

I didn't ignore anything. I already mentioned shot blocking, faceoffs etc. He is still expected to at least attempt to make decent offensive plays not the peewee level attempts at bad angle shots and pass it off as offense.

This is like aruging with a brick wall so i'm not even going to bother after this post.

I take it you didn't read what I wrote. Boyle is a very, very good defensive player. I said if Nash possessed his defensive abilities then he would be a Selke candidate (i.e. combining his offensive abilities with Boyle's stout defense). Reading comprehension is key.

You ignored the rest of his game to further your anti-Boyle agenda.

"Not bother[ing]" to respond would actually be doing yourself a huge favor since you look extremely silly with this anti-Boyle crap.

The sad thing is that the Hank hate has spread outside of these boards. A lot of posts on twitter and Facebook has left me wondering about the sanity of our fanbase.

It's strange, but they do seem to play with more confidence in front of him.

I think hank has been fighting it a lot more than usual this year. His saves haven't looked as effortless as usual and he seems to be lunging at more pucks and fighting off more shots. Maybe teams are testing him higher or he's facing tougher shots, but he hasn't looked as calm in net as he usually is

It needs to get more centrist. For years he couldn't be blamed for anything (still can't to some today), but now its gone the opposite direction where he's blamed for everything.

and for the second time, Get a reality check. Boyle is nowhere near as good defensively as you make him out to be. I said he's good. do you need me to write it several more times or am i ignoring it again?

and for the second time, my point has nothing to do with he does defensively and everything wrong he does with the puck not without it, So continue to bring up useless (and exaggerated) defense points when that is not the problem.

I'm guessing he still hasn't fully settled in (what with being injured and all).

If you don't think Boyle is very good defensively, I suggest you watch more Rangers games. Don't think I can be more easy to understand than that.

What does Boyle's play with the puck in the offensive zone (which is the only area he makes questionable plays with the puck, mind you) have to do with his defense? I never disputed his poor offensive skills. He's very good at cycling along the board, however (but so was Marcel Hossa).

and i never said he was BAD Defensively. He's just not jesus on skates in the D as you proclaim him.

I can agree on that!

And by the way, thank you for changing your avatar. That Mao/Marilyn thing was SCARY.

I never said he was "Jesus on skates," either. I said he was very good defensively. Which he is and which you'd understand if you paid more attention to him.

He's not a playmaker on D. He won't pick your pocket. But he's fantastic at forcing guys to the outside, cutting down angles, forcing bad passes, etc. It comes from the fact that he was a defenseman for a lot of his career. He plays like a defenseman as a forward with how he plays the angles.

But keep thinking he's nothing special. It's funny to watch.

The fact that you think boyle is "special" tells me all i need to know.

Thanks for the laughs.

Jesus was an average defensive player.

Well played.
