Who cares about Boyle's ability to fight, the point is he does it for his team. More importantly he wins face-offs. If you have a guy like him...it makes the end of the game with a one goal lead a lot easier to defend. Do people value fighting more than how crucial face-off wins are?

Apparently some here value stupid **** over his great defense, great forechecking, solid hitting, and great faceoff taking.

Seriously. Dude fights Chara and Bieksa on consecutive days and is somehow "soft" and passionless.

Just because he wants to reinact David vs Golliath for us doesn't make up for his garbage player as a forward. Blocking a shot here and there and winning some face offs does not give him a pass. His Hockey IQ on the ice is that of a pineapple which is probably the most frustrating thing of all.

EDIT - GREAT defense? Solid hitting? Lol we have brian boyle, Not Dan Boyle. Guy.

I don't seem to harbor the same resentment for a coach who took us within 2 games of the Stanley Cup finals as the rest of you.

Boyle is a very solid hitter. He finishes his checks and follows through and is one of the most prolific hitters of any forward in the league. He isn't out there putting guys through the boards, but he makes very good tactical decisions when to hit and hits often.

And his hockey IQ isn't terrible at all. He doesn't have great offensive instincts, but his IQ is fine in the neutral and defensive zones.

This Boyle hate is hysterical.

Does Washington really have 6 of 13 wins in the shootout?

Yes it's ******* ridiculous.

Rangers relied on their goalie too much tonight IMO and the Canucks actually did a good job stretching out the D and finding soft spots, but Talbot was square and generally didn't have to make any amazing saves except for maybe a few

What was Kreider and AV "lying" about in the postgame?

As much as I make fun of Boyle he's actually a pretty decent bottom 6 guy and a damn great 4th line player.

Yep. One of the best 4th liners in the league (maybe even the best), for sure. And an extremely solid 3rd liner. The problem was he was just getting too much time through Torts and playing when he shouldn't have been.

But you'd think anyone who wanted to be objective would look at his play and realize he's an extremely solid player to have on this team.

I hope we re-sign him (although there's a chance he could price himself out).

Who is to say Torts being hard on Kreider didn't help lite a fire under his ass though? That sending him down wasn't good for him and helped make him the player we have now?

I think being sent down again this year lit a fire under his ass more than anything. Kreider didn't exactly play well in the AHL last year. He dominated this year, though. Completely different player.

I credit Torts 100% for Stralman, though.

I don't mind him on the team. I mean, he skates like a fawn but he's a solid guy who can kill penalties and add some size to the roster. He can't fight worth a crap but at least he's getting in there and showing some heart.

No. Just. NO.

Wow he knows what to do in the neutral and defensive zone? So you're saying he plays his position? Gee i'm pretty sure all our forwards know how to do that. What he doesn't know is actually doing something with the puck, Which he obviously have tons of trouble with. Taking stupid shots on oddman rushes or plain simply not hitting the open man and taking a bad shot. Or the legendary one-hand protect the puck followed by a flub backhand on net.

It's not hate, It's fact. I'm not saying he can't be a roster player but to say he doesn't deserve some of the things that is said about him is absurd.

I don't even think his skating is that bad. It's just he's so ****ing tall that it looks awkward as hell. He's a deceptively good skater for his height. Although I think it has improved (I assume the Rangers had him doing some power skating) quite a bit since we first acquired him.

If "all of our forwards [knew] how to do that," then we would have a team full of Selke candidates. Nash would be winning it every year when you combine his offense in with the supposed amazing defense he must possess.

No one is saying he's a good offensive player. It's cute that you ignore the rest of his game, though.

Keep drinking that haterade.

This Brian Boyle I can take. The Boyle of a few weeks ago..... No good.

To hate on Boyle after this game is honestly missing the mark. He can't do much more as a fourth line player than what he did today. Hating on any player for that matter, after today's game is comical!

We won 5-2!!!
