Yeah I thought it was poor logic at the time and still do. Some people also pointed out how tight we were with the cap with the bonuses, but you could have just not signed Jack Johnson, basically.
Could have easily shipped off Lemieux and not signed Johnson, which would’ve saved 2.65M and that’s that, Fast is still a Ranger.

Both Lemieux and Johnson were done with the team halfway through the season too. They just didn’t want to give Fast a 3rd season on a 2M deal? You f***ing kidding me?

Yup, any number of maneuvers could have and should have been made rather than letting Fast walk over an extra year.
Just piss poor managing and the little moves like that shine more brightly on the impact of a team than people think. Now the Rangers are looking for another Fast for no reason lmao.

Does Goodrow have to be protected? Wouldn't Seattle be taking a risk drafting him and having him walk? We could still protect Gauthier, Rooney or Blackwell instead.

Worst case they draft him and we finalize the contract we were working during our window. Similar to Richter to Nashville in 1998?

IDK, if Fast was here we would have the majority of the board complaining we don't have room for Kravtsov.

Who cares about Fast, dude was a good player but made of glass. Always out injured in big games.

anyway, good trade. I feel like we could still flip him if we can’t sign him but Goodrow is solid for bottom 6.

.

yeah, enough already. hes gone!! HES GONE!

Goodrow will be signed, some will complain about the term but we’ll be happy we did it in the long run.
Disagree. I like Goodrow, but his contract is projected to be one of the worst contracts in free agency. I’ll wait and see what happens, but I’m getting Beleskey vibes from any potential deal.

Choosing him over Buchnevich is also absolute lunacy.

If there was a passenger on that line it was goodrow. Would rather have johnson at his deal than goodrow for anything over 2.5 /5

i don’t think it’s Buch vs goodrow.
I hope you’re right, but I don’t see how it’s possibly for both to stay. I doubt they’d move Strome, but we’ll see what happens. Drury’s gotten good value on all of his deals at least thus far.

I like the player, think he would be a great add.

I also like that this shows that Drury isn’t planning to be the high bidder. Paying a 7th to “jump the line” has to be to buy time to sell Goodrow on what they are building in NY. How he would fit in.

Maybe blind optimism but I would hope that Drury is doing this because he knows the NYR won’t be the high $ bid on UFA day.

That would be my hope as well, yet seriously, what are they going to sell him on to take a lesser deal? You might win the Cup here eventually? The weather is better? Taxes, living expense?

I think the point of trading for him with this timing was that we could trade Howden and then use a protection spot for Goodrow, who is someone who is actually worth protecting(unlike Howden).

The Rangers have a lot of elite young talent, deep prospect pool, bright future, new coach, NYC, original 6, etc. That's plenty to talk about.
